And ask that something be done about Carty's lastest stunt of kicking the Marines out of downtown. They've gotta be able to do something. I also suggest flooding Carty's inbox with e-mails. Starting Monday morning, call his office too. This is a shameful thing that happened!

Of all the things Carty has done, this is the one action that makes me the angriest. It wasn't the Marines fault that Carty was left out of the loop. I have a hard time believing he was left out of the loop since it was all over the news a couple days ago. This is, after all, one of the biggest micromanagers of all time.
Secondly, it's shameful to not welcome the marines into Toledo. I was excited and proud to know that they could use our abandoned downtown to train better, an activity that will likely save lives in Iraq. But Carty had to run his mouth off again.
How much does anyone want to bet this makes Drudge and gives the city a huge black eye?

Chad - I sent the news tip to Fox News. Not sure how much good it will do but it was worth a shot.
I expect in a week's time this will be on all the National media. I've talked with some people in the loop and this lil stunt of his is already making the lightning round.
Our local version of Fox News was the first to report on it and I'm sure they too sent it to the parent company. this action of his may very well have dramatic and far reaching effects.

I'm willing to bet that Carty holds a news conference somewhere in the near future, where he will tell us in his typical condescending "I'm trying really hard to hold my temper" tone that he was just looking out for the citizens. I can see it now.
It's sad that this will probably make national news but at the same time, he deserves the embarrassment.
This is your mayor. It is not like no one knew what they were getting when they elected him to his position. I must say he has been a constant source of amusement to me and I am sure for many of us who do not live in Toledo. I bet if he runs again he will be reelected.
The other choice was Jack Ford. Carty is humiliating us, Jack Ford simply ran the city into the ground and now he is on the school board (call the FAA because there is probably going to be a plane wreck investigation requested in Toledo soon). I don't regret voting for Carty in 05, but I am sure going to be looking for another person in 2009 to support.

how would everyone feel if this was to be done in your neighborhood instead of downtown? would you be ok with marines performing training exercises on your block? would your kids understand why people in camo with guns were yelling in your front yard?
Any time. They are more than welcome to come to my house and use it if they want too. I will even supply some snacks. This is vital stuff people. A poorly trained military leads to accidents, and in those kinds of accidents people die. Just look at Lima. Not exactly military, but same tactics and it led to bad results. The more training they get, the better the chances of them completing successful missions with the fewest possible casualties.

I gladly welcome them into my South Toledo Neighborhood. Maybe the only people they scare will be the Gangs and that alone will make me feel safer.
If the Marines want to play war in my neighborhood, my streets, my yard, my home...great! More power to em! It would be a service to their training to help them understand the nature of urban combat.
Granted, better notification should have been done, it wasn't. The point is, the 11th hour stop was outrageous and foolish and extreemly costly. Not just in money/tax dollars either, no this lil stunt of the Mayor's has cost us in many ways, reputation being one of them.
I think it would be awesome to have them train in my neighborhood. See, I'm smart enough to know that if I see a bunch of Marines running around without hearing anykind of breaking news report or something alerting me that we're under attack by terrorist or if I don't see any riots in the middle of it- I think I'd come to the conclusion that it's practice. I also listen to the news and keep current on local events so I would know about this ahead of time.
Bottom line, it would fill my heart with pride to see these practices going on in my neighborhood or downtown. I support the military and right now am more ashamed than ever that I am from Toledo.

There have been many names assigned to describe Toledo's mayor. But for an all inclusive word "buffoon" and all its' alternative meanings seems most apt in describing the mayor.
