Consultant's 'tough sell' is to spotlight Hillary's faith

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After sitting through 17 lectures - most of them truly informative and fascinating - over 3 1/2 days last week, the most memorable news tidbit I brought home from the Religion Newswriters Association's annual conference is this: Hillary Clinton is deeply religious.

Thankfully, I was sitting down when Burns Strider called Senator Clinton "the most religious Democrat since Jimmy Carter."

In a later lecture, researcher John C. Green affirmed the observation that Hillary has deeply held religious beliefs, but added: "The reality is quite different than the perception."

Another presidential candidate, Republican Sen. John McCain, stirred up controversy when he said recently that he would "prefer" a Christian president over a Muslim one.

Mr. Green said his research shows Americans would be more accepting of a Mormon president than some other faiths: "In general, being a Mormon is viewed as far less of a liability for a presidential candidate than not believing in God or being a Muslim."

...seems strange to me that any candidate would need to hire a consultant to meet with religious leaders to convince them of said candidate's faith...

I like how the article mentions Hillary and Jimmy Carter in the same sentence. I think that tells all what we will get with Hillary.

For a fuller explanation and analysis of Hillary's faith, see: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/07/hillary_on_her_faith_1...

Especially, this paragraph:

One of the ministers from her youth, Rev. Donald Jones, says of his messages then, "I wouldn't have focused so much on personal salvation. I would have focused more on social responsibility." In theological circles this is known as "works salvation," the notion that one can do enough good deeds to earn God's approval and enter Heaven. While James, the Apostle, writes "faith without works is dead" (James 2:20), he means that works done as a result of saving faith for the purpose of leading others to that same faith - not for the sole objective of improving one's own circumstances on earth - find approval in God's sight, while works that are separated from a saving faith message are, as the prophet Isaiah says about such human righteousness, like "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6).

at the over-use of the word religious. Any Bible centered Christian knows that Jesus and the Apostles condemned the "religious" people of their day. Most Christians see through Hillary because they know being religious is not a good thing. Following Christ is.

Why is religion only important when a Democrat is involved?

I saw countless articles on how Kerry was a

I think we'd be better off diminishing the importance of religion in politics

of religion, faith, or morality in the same sentence as the name Clinton is laughable to say the least. And, no, I'm not a super-religious person, so please don't flame for being a 'bible-beater'.

That doesn't mean I can't smell hypocrites a mile away. I still remember all the photo-ops of those swine coming out of a church holding bibles during most of their scandals-which were many. They use religion more than any con artist evangelist ever did.

So Bill Clinton lied about a blow job and Bush lied about torturing people. I guess both cases it is about how something is defined. Is getting a BJ from a woman sex? (duh) and is strapping someone to a board and submerging them is water so they think they are going to drown torture?

Yes they both lied, but one has considerable more moral implications then the other.

If the comment was regarding my post, then I did not intend to give the appearance that it was related to your post, Darkseid and I did not intend ti inject anything into what you said, feel or think.

I was referring to this, "Most Christians see through Hillary because they know being religious is not a good thing. Following Christ is."

Which you did not pen, so to speak and it is not about the author for me, it is about the meaning of the comment.
