Metro Toledo buyers are loyal to Detroit 3

Brands snag 61% market share for '09, led by Ford

Metro Toledo may have a lot of attributes ascribed to it, but when it comes to buying automobiles, one stands out: loyalty.

The three domestic automakers — Chrysler Group LLC, General Motors Co., and Ford Motor Co. — made 61 percent of the vehicles sold locally last year. Nationally, the three domestic automakers captured only 45 percent of the 10.4 million vehicles sold in 2009

Chrysler May Not Make It Another Year
October 1, 2009
Douglas A. McIntyre
Rumors, credible rumors, are beginning to circulate in the car
industry and the automotive press, that Chrysler may not make it
another year primarily due to its falling sales and growing financial
losses at partner Fiat. Chrysler sold a 62,197 cars in
September down 42% from the same month last year. The figure was down
from 93,222 in August when traffic to dealers was pushed up by the
”cash for clunkers” program. Chrysler’s problems may only be beginning

Foreigners loving "Cash for clunkers"

A top ten list for the highest selling cars via Cash for Clunkers has been released, and neither of the bailed out companies - GM or Chrysler - are on the list. Ford has the 3rd and 7th spots with the Focus and Escape, and the foreigners are stealing the rest of the Obamabucks. Of course, I have nothing against what we define as a "foreign auto," ( ) I just find it Ironic. Is the "Buy American" crowd upset?

Why didn't Chrysler push the best-looking car in America?

I just don't get it. Chrysler Corporation comes out with the best styled car since...well, the 70s-namely the new Dodge Challenger, because it looks ..well,just like a 70s Dodge Challenger. I've said many times, if anyone were to come out with a car that looked on the outside exactly like a 1967 GTO, for example, that they'd sell every one they could make. Ford jumped on this somewhat finally by making a Mustang that came close to the 67-70 Stang, but the Challenger beat it out by being nearly a carbon copy of its former self, even down to the crooked 'shotgun' floor shift.

I have a serious question about the Big Three bailout.

Let me prefece the question with some  background.

1) The taxpayers of the United States of America are being asked to loan billions of dollars to the Big Three auto makers.

2) Two of The Big Three say they will run out of cash before the end of the year, the 3rd says it will run out of money early next year.

 3) The Big Three say this "loan" is needed because of the millions of jobs that will be lost.

My technology failed me. My Newton battery died and I had to take notes on paper, go figure. I want to thank Twila Paige for bringing my recorder to the meeting and getting it started. I knew I would not be able to make it until around 7 or so, so she allowed you to hear the whole meeting.
