Citizens Organized to Bring Reform and Accountability - COBRA - www.toledocobra.org - is on the move. Earlier this week, the Toledo COBRA PAC was formed to begin raising money for legal fees in drafting petitions and guiding the group through the petition process.
A steering committee meeting is set for Thursday May 3rd at 7:00 pm at the Heatherdowns Branch Library. The meeting will be held to finalize council reorganization petition language and discuss the city manager form of government petitions. Public is welcome to attend.
Visit www.toledocobra.org to learn how to help reform Toledo government.
Thanks for the update Dave
Good, we need a smaller council. As for taking away the strong mayor position, it may not be a bad idea. But the question then is are the people of toledo really stupid enough to elect someone like Carty. Should we destroy the strong mayor because of the stupidity of voters?
here's a question for you - We have 6 districts, each with an elected councilperson to represent them. Why do we need any more than 6 on council?
We have 12 of them!! As far as I can tell, all the 'at large' councilmen do is represent special interests. Do we need that? Do we want it?
for a link to donate on the site. I can't find it - is there one yet?
See you at the meeting :-)
junta that is a great question. I guess time will tell, but you if you look back on Toledo when it was in its economic heyday - things weren't being done this way. So I think it makes sense to look at changing things. But as you - we voters don't have a very good track record right not.
Billy - I thought the same thing when I started watching the council meetings. It is a large and unwieldy body. And to my mind they seem to be at cross purposes much of the time.
Billy,
That same point was brought up recently and is being considered. It makes sense on a logistical point as well but providing better representation is also an aim of the movement. Also, eliminating all 6 seats could generate alot of political opposition. Definitely is going to be looked at.
Kate,
Looking forward to seeing you. Will also talk a bit about open government initiatives too.
Dave
Stuck on Status Quo! Let me guess, Dave feels the voter pain, but the system is too big to change.
I wonder if Kodak and Sony believed in the same incremental steps before Digitial Cameras and I-Pods destroyed their market caps.
