Black Swamp Conservancy to Host Regional Conservation Meeting; ODNR Director Logan to Attend

Perrysburg, OH (October 30, 2009) Black Swamp Conservancy will host its annual northwest Ohio land conservation meeting on November 19th.

Each year, Black Swamp Conservancy brings together a number of public and private conservation organizations and agencies to discuss the state of land conservation in northwest Ohio.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur Co-Sponsors Landmark Agriculture and Open Space Conservation Bill

Perrysburg, OH (September 24, 2009) Private landowners—and especially family farmers—will be the beneficiaries of legislation, co-sponsored by Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), to make permanent the federal tax incentive for donations of conservation easements.

The incentive, which is slated to expire at the end of 2009, has helped Black Swamp Conservancy work with willing landowners to conserve over 3,500 acres of agricultural land and natural areas since it was first enacted in 2006.

Black Swamp Conservancy Joins EarthShare Ohio

Perrysburg, Ohio (September 22, 2009) – Black Swamp Conservancy, a northwest Ohio land trust, has become a member of EarthShare Ohio.

The conservancy is a non-profit land conservation organization, whose mission is to protect and preserve natural and agricultural lands in northwest Ohio for the benefit of future generations. It has permanently protected nearly 8,100 acres of family farms, wetlands, meadows, shoreline lands and woods since its founding in 1993.

Black Swamp Conservancy Elects Toledo Man as Vice President

Perrysburg, Ohio (September 18, 2009) – Black Swamp Conservancy, a non-profit land conservation organization based in Perrysburg, has elected Ken Zeck of Toledo as vice president.

Mr. Zeck’s term as vice president runs until June 2011. He has served on the conservancy’s board of trustees since 2003 and was president from 2005 to 2007.

Mr. Zeck is the former assistant director, global real estate, of Owens-Illinois, Inc.

Hannah’s Socks to provide socks to less fortunate in Findlay

Open Arms, Findlay Hope House to receive aid from local nonprofit

TOLEDO, Ohio – August 5, 2009 Hannah’s Socks, a Perrysburg-based nonprofit focused on providing clothing necessities to the less fortunate, is now warming the feet and hearts of Findlay, Ohio.

Hannah’s Socks has recently begun providing socks to two shelters in Findlay, The Findlay Hope House and Open Arms. Both shelters will be receiving sock donations on a quarterly basis.

Conservancy and Agriculture Department Protect Nearly 1,000 Acres of Northwest Ohio Farmland

Perrysburg, Ohio (July 24, 2009) - Black Swamp Conservancy has partnered
with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and family farmers in three
northwest Ohio counties to ensure that nearly 1,000 acres of farmland is
used only for agriculture, in perpetuity.

The farmland preservation occurred as a result of the Agricultural Easement
Purchase Program (AEPP) of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

The AEPP provides funding to assist landowners in preserving Ohio's

I drove my car (with my Beyond Babylon signs on it) to the site where Vice President Joe Biden was to speak in Perrysburg, Ohio and found most of the protesters were children, literally, holding signs in the very hot sun (I was reassured they were well hydrated). I'm not sure what their protest was about (if one of their leaders reads this, contact and let me know and I'll update this information).

Black Swamp Conservancy Matches Toledo Community Foundation Challenge Grant

Perrysburg, Ohio (December 22, 2008) - Black Swamp Conservancy, a Perrysburg, Ohio-based land conservation organization, has announced that it has matched a challenge grant the conservancy received from Toledo Community Foundation.

The conservancy was awarded a $50,000 grant from Toledo Community Foundation earlier this year. The grant allowed Black Swamp Conservancy to hire a stewardship manager.
