Carryout wins right to open - contributes to poor safety?

"Councilman Wilma Brown, one of those who opposed issuing the permit, said she was trying to represent the community. "If we're ordered to do it, I guess we have to do it," she said.

Ms. Brown said the case shows that council cannot base denial of a permit on the fact that a store intends to sell beer and wine.

The Spot controversy contributed to council's decision to impose a moratorium on new carryout permits with a goal of revamping the special-permits process."

A carryout shouldn't have to "win" the right -- it ALREADY had the right to open a retail location under zoning, and Toledo just tried to be difficult about it.

Unfortunately for businesses like carryouts, you can't just move to Maumee or Oregon (i.e. anywhere just outside of Toledo) and expect your customers to come to you.

This is the damnedest thing of it all. We're free to consume alcohol, but the state and local governments try to make it difficult to obtain and use what we're allegedly free to have and consume.

People need to understand that the anarchists are right and that government should be at least a lot smaller than it is now. A few local issues shouldn't trump the overall condition of LIBERTY. We should be a lot more tolerant of a few bad apples, since the eternal vigilance of the citizens stops the rot from spreading.
