Beating the Census Bureau a few days before the official number comes out. Carty announces that the City of Toledo has more than 300K people. That he magically found 4000 under estimated people. Then the bureau releases their claim. While I know getting an actually headcount is extremely difficult. Who is right ? And. Who cares ? Are we suppose to believe the number that came out first? Or are we to believe the guys whose job it is to count..... errr use the formula ? Our society moves around so much does it really matter? If it were not for the allocation of tax dollars I would say no. This is an easy fix. Stop taking our tax dollars away and the count would not matter.
You do the math

Follow that cash and you'll find the answer. If the census says Toledo is under 300,000 people that puts Toledo into a lower tax bracket of sorts. Toledo could loose a few million in state and federal dollars.
Seems to be a campaign to seed doubt in the census figures:
------
Today, the U.S. Census Bureau released its annual population estimates for cities across America. I am encouraging every Mayor who thinks that their city has been undercounted by even one person to file a formal challenge to their city's estimate. With large numbers of traditionally undercounted populations including immigrants and minorities, cities must demand that every citizen is counted.
"Census estimates are vitally important for America's cities because census data is seen as a key indicator of the health of cities and is routinely used to make both private and public sector investment decisions. In fact, it used to determine how $300 billion is distributed annually for 170 federal programs and is used in over 80% of all retail location decisions.

Another thought:`One of the reasons that the City passed the empty house registry was that the City has no clue how many empty houses are in the City. How can the City allege there are more people when there possibly could be less?
