Woman beat and mutilated because she supported McCain

The thugocracy comment continues to gather steam:

Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said the robber took $60 from Todd, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

And another story:
Republican HQ Manager's Home Shot Up Over McCain Signs

The home of a Central Florida Republican headquarters manager was shot up and damaged over his support of Sen. John McCain, the man told police.

So.

That's a pretty nice "B" except that it's backwards... like maybe it was done in a mirror? She refused medical attention? Scratched into her face—why not cut? Were there any witnesses?

&

House shot up in CENTRAL FLORIDA because of a McCain sign?

Yeah... right... sorry, just smells fishy.

edit: Just want to add that if these attacks did happen, for whatever reason, it's horrible.

edit #2: even batshit-crazy michelle malkin doubts it. http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/23/why-that-mccain-volunteers-mutilati...

Sounds like the work of a Bob Barr supporter.

Even if these stories are true, what are we supposed to take from them? Vote McCain because a couple moronic Obama supporters went overboard? All Obama supporters are muggers and thugs? McCain voters will be placed in 're-education' centers after Obama wins the election?

I realize the polls don't look promising for you, but ya gotta bring something to the table better than this crap.

after I get beat and cut, the first thing I want to do is create a story that makes Obama look bad. What is more scary is you dismissing it. It is very disturbing indeed. If it is made up, she should be arrested, but if it is true, it says more about you and that you tolerate violence for political purposes, which is disturbing to say the least and proves the Obama thugocracy could quite possibly be a reality.

You're more likely to get beat up, or at least intimated, by the likes of your own party here in Lucas County.

Recall the incident of Stainbrook pointing you out to his bully-boys at the GOP vote this past summer? The one you made such a stink over?

Why

would a partisan hack be worried about intimidation by his own party? You love to call me that but now you are saying I am not a toadie. Makes no sense, but figures.

"What is more scary is you dismissing it." Get real. Even the more "celebrated" of your right-wing bloggers have been calling bullshit since this story hit...

Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.

also...

Update 9:30am Eastern 10/24: She told police the assailant sat on her chest and pinned her hands down with his knees.

So much for all those thinking the attacker was upside-down with her head between his knees.

Anyone with a different viewpoint is mocked openly. Is this the America you Obamites want ? Apparently it is.

All this whole fucking election is about is one side pointing out how the other side sucks. You're hard pressed to go out and find ANY posting out here by the libs praising Obama or from the right praising mccain. all either side has is that the other side sucks.

If there were an incidence of conservatives accosting a liberal and scratching an M on her forehead, you'd post it yourself.

Isolated incidents like the ones mentioned, ones that are already being questioned as to their authenticity, have no interest to me one way or another, no matter which party the thugs may be alledgedly affiliated with.

We all can post stuff like this:

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/hottopics/msg1017201821744.html

See? Ain't it fun? I could do this all day. McCain supporters could do the same. It all proves exactly what? There are, and always have been, nutjobs 'representing' both parties. Let's stop pretending this is 'news', or relevant to the process of electing the next president.

Pittsburgh police plan to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd because her statements about the attack "conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred."

Now, IF this is a real attack, let me be the first in line to wish the worst sorts of karma on the perpetrator. Yet there is an awful lot of fishiness to this story, and I am skeptical. How can a 5-inch knife somehow manage to avoid breaking the skin when an angry mugger is carving someone's face? Why does Ashley Todd lack any defensive wounds in this alleged knife attack? How does she manage to stay so still to allow the mugger to care a nice, neat "B" on her face (setting aside the fact that it was backwards in the photo - maybe the attacker was dyslexic, maybe the photo was flipped, or maybe the attacker was upside-down when he carved it)? And when was the last time you heard a street thug waste time on politics? As a former retail business owner who endured at least 15 robberies in a decade, these clowns want fast money, and a successful robbery is one that gets accomplished in 20 seconds or less. Show the weapon, make some noise, grab the cash, and run.

Besides, robbers tend to also be addicts, and the cash is a means to a quick fix or hit. The idiot would be thinking about calling his meth or crack dealer, not wanting to make a political statement.

If I only saw the picture and didn't read the story, I'd be inclined to say that the perpetrator was more likely an angry short-haired kitty with a high IQ. But we'll see. Again, IF this is not a hoax, I'll be the first to apologize for my skepticism, but this story has more loose ends than a pair of Hilton sisters.

http://historymike.blogspot.com/

McCain voters will be placed in 're-education' centers after Obama wins the election?

That one has the ring of truth to it.

I have no idea if any of these stories are true, but I do know that a polygraph is not admissible in court, and for good reason. That said, the Florida home being shot up sounds a lot more likely than any criminal carving up a victim over political views he's too ignorant to read about.

Now Ashley Todd's story is changing:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6076307.html

From the Houston Chronicle update:

The student, Ashley Todd, of College Station, Texas, initially said a black man robbed her at knifepoint near a bank Wednesday night and then cut her cheek after seeing a McCain sticker on her car.

Todd, who is white, now says she was knocked unconscious and doesn't remember being cut in the face. She now says she only discovered the wound later.

No arrests have been made.

Getting stranger by the minute...

http://historymike.blogspot.com/

How many Ashley Todd costumes will we see this Halloween?

Color me shocked that now the details of this 'attack' are changing by the hour.

Please keep posting the updates on this 'vital' news story, Chris, and why this all should be used as reasons to vote McCain/Palin.

6ft 4 shaggy haired black man! A HOAX!!! Now didn't we already know that?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27350530/

"Police said the Todd, who is white, told them she was attacked by a 6-foot-4 black man Wednesday night".

Hell, she at least coulda gone the extra mile and thrown in 'with very large hands and other extremeties' to complete the sterotype.

"The report of the attack prompted the Republican presidential candidate and his running mate, Sarah Palin, to call Todd expressing their concern."

Now they can help pay her bail money. Take it outta Sarah's clothing allowance.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Haha...McCaskey, good stuff

When will she be on Fox?

She made up the story:

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh police say a volunteer for John McCain's presidential campaign made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B'' scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack. Bryant says the 20-year-old college student from Texas admitted today that the story was false.

Maybe they could have an Ashley Todd Bus Tour? They could drive backwards and slash their own tires....

Pink Slip

did you actually believe this?

stories which have not proven false, it is possible, but as I mentioned above if she made it up she should be arrested. It is false and she gets the scum of the earth award. Nice try with the pile-on.

This story is top on Drudge right now, so it is important.

I'm sure the 'original' story (emphasis on story) was spewed all over the top of Drudge last night when it 'broke'. Probably saw it there first, right, Chris?...and just had to rush to post it on here? I'll bet the fingers were flying on the keyboard and the pulse was racing!

Sounds like Fox and other conservative outlets had a nice run with it as well. Whoops.

Can anyone say 'egg on their face'?

Meanwhile, the only national news network worth a damn (well, besides MSNBC; can't wait for Olbermann's take on this) had it nailed all along:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/24/rick-sanchez-calls-out-me_n_137...

Oh, well, It can happen to the best of us, I suppose. See how magnanimous I can be, Chris?

Taking the wife out for our anniversary tonight. Barkeep, make that a double!

not reporting the real story? When Karen McConnel-Hancock had the same made up story people posted what she said, then when the facts came out they posted the facts. No eggs on anyone's face, just reporting how the story develops and has developed in other stories similar to this. Of course your passions are getting the best of your right now which explains the tone of your comments. Logic and the history on these cases would prove your point as wrong.

Of course the other national stories of things happening still have not been addressed; those outnumber this story so far.

Nice try though.

but, as I posted originally, these stories...even if true...what are they supposed to mean? Why post them? What is the big picture meant to be drawn from them?

Only one reason..to incite, to inflame, to attempt to muddy-up the 'other side.'

It's too funny that every Tom, Dick, Harry and evidently Chris thought this to be of such political 'value' they couldn't wait to 'break' this all over the 'net in their blind partisan attempt to gain some sort of moral 'upper hand' Hey!--look what those mean Obama people do!. And then it blew up in their (your) face.

I can, and did, find stories where McCain supporters alledgedly slashed tires, heckled early Obama supporters waiting to vote, and the like. In truth, they have no more or less value than what you threw against the wall to see what might stick, which is the point. Both sides can play these ridiculous games and they have no meaning or relevance to what we're voting for or about in ten days.

how messed up some people can be and the extents they will go for their own twisted beliefs.

Actually some of your advice is truly interesting coming from you, like to incite, inflame and to attempt to muddy up the other side. You and pink slip know a lot about that huh. Looking at your posts and comments, that seems to be a familiar MO.

Regardless of your opinion, this story will be big because of what she did just like how other people who have staged fake things have been big stories. You can try to say it is something else or that it blew up, but it is following what all the other stories have, which is initial skeptical beliefs, then the truth comes out.

It demonstrateshow messed up some people can be and the extents they will go for their own twisted beliefs

Isolated incidents involving nefarious individuals of either political party are not especially newsworthy, but you at least would have some semblence of credibility if you posted stories reflecting what both sides have done that should be considered out of bounds. After all, you're all about 'fairness'.

You can dance away from this incident all you want, but you're part of the conservative culture that could not contain themselves falling all over this story hoping to gain political traction, only to find themselves in the middle of a mega-ton stink bomb:

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Park, Texas, will be charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, and may face more charges, said police spokeswoman Diane Richard at a news conference.

"This has wasted so much time. ... It's just a lot of wasted man hours," Assistant Police Chief Maurita Bryant said at the same briefing.

The woman told investigators a man approached her Wednesday night at an ATM in Pittsburgh's East End, put a blade to her neck and demanded money, Richard said.

Police said they found "several inconsistencies" in Todd's statement and she was not seen in surveillance videos taken at the ATM. She was asked to take a polygraph test Friday morning, Richard said. The results were not made public.

ninety nine to go. Ok, the story was fake. The girl had a good line, and the news media threw gasoline on the fire and started the war dance a little prematurely. Is anyone surprised?

The thing is, I don't see or hear either Obama or McCain inciting anyone to violence.
