Vote for Sarah Palin

e-mail request:
PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is
qualified. Apparently the Republicans knew about this in advance and are
flooding the voting with YES votes.

I know -- it's only a poll. But it will be reported on PBS,
picked up by mainstream media and can influence undecided voters in swing
states.

Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds.

1) Click on link and vote yourself. Here's the link:
http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

2) Then send this to every single voter you know,
irregardless of party affiliation, and urge them to vote and pass it on.

The last thing we need is PBS having to say our viewers think
Sarah Palin is qualified unless we ALL vote..

No votes yet

looks 1/2 and 1/2 right now

I know this is off point, and I'm being a nit-picker, but "irregardless" is not a word. It's "regardless".

Are you the guy who ran for the Board of Education not too long ago?

Sorry... it's been a rough week.

From Merriam-Webster Online
irregardless
One entry found.

Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
Pronunciation: \,ir-i-'gärd-ləs\
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912
nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.<

Online polls are not scientific and respected pollsters don't use them. It's because their statistics are invariably skewed.

1. It's only a poll of those who have internet access. (Definitely not a reflection of the general public)

2. It's only a poll of those who go onto PBS online. (I didn't even think they could afford the bandwith)

3. Polls like this require a desire to be a part of the poll. This means only the "enthusiastic" vote or at least skew the vote.

The last one is the one most commonly cited as the reasons polls are not a good indicator of much. This is also the reason exit polls fail. You need to look no further than this last week where it was reported how the major news organizations are rechecking their exit polling because in the primaries Obama did on average 3% better in exit polls than the actual voting results. The reason is his supporters were more enthusiastic and thus looked to tell others that they voted for him.

If polls were accurate we wouldn't need to vote. Instead on election day we'd have a poll. The founding fathers didn't want this and thus required the most educated and motivated only be allowed to vote. Today education and status mean nothing in terms of voting however every state still has at least minimal requirements to vote.
