Troy Neff Show: Bailout Bill is a bad and bloated

Even though this revised bill passed, it's coming under fire. It seems it's about more than saving the economy. 13abc's Bill Horman looked at the massive plan and found surprising additions.

A financial Bailout Bill that started as 3 pages has ballooned to 451 pages. You might be amazed at the pork we found in this plan. We're supposed to be on the brink of financial collapse. To meet the challenge, the senate passed a $700-billion Bailout Bill. And it was stuffed with pork, like millions in tax breaks for Puerto Rican and Virgin Island rum producers. There are breaks for builders of auto racing tracks, huge benefits to fishermen who suffered from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, and even $6-million in tax breaks for makers of Kids' Wooden Arrows.

Congressmembers, like Marcy Kaptur, even question whether a bailout like this is needed at all. "I will not support this legislation because it is the wrong medicine," says Kaptur. Financial advisor Troy Neff agrees with Kaptur. He says this is a bad bloated bill. "The day we're going to go toward socialism for the stock market is the day I don't care about the stock market anymore and you shouldn't either," says Neff.
