Good Toledo Journal article that sums up the Scotland story

If you have not already seen it, stop over and see the Toledo Journal article about Jan Scotland not making it on the ballot.

Something very interesting:

In fact, minutes after it interviewed Mr. Stainbrook, The Journal received an e-mailed statement from GOP official Matthew Bartow quoting Mr. Scotland as having given up.
''After considerable consultation with members of the Election Board, the LCRP, and attorneys, it is inevitable that my name will not appear on this November’s ballot,'' the statement quotes the former candidate as saying. ''While I had personally filed a designation of treasurer form and other appropriate paperwork and was told by staff that everything was complete, it is clear that that this was not the case.''

Why did Bartow send out an e-mail after the Journal just got done hearing Stainbrook saying he was going to file a suit? Has the party given up or not? One also wonders why there is such a communication gap?

Also:

He said when he agreed to run for the office, he told Mr. Stainbrook and other GOP officials that he wanted to concentrate ''100 percent'' on campaigning and raising campaign funds. He said he told party officials he was counting on them to handle routine tasks – such as filing the candidacy form.

This does prove that Jon was the one to drop the ball.
