“The governor did have a tanning bed put in the Governor’s Mansion,” Roger Wetherell, chief communications officer of Alaska’s Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, confirmed to this newspaper. “It was done shortly after she took office [in early 2007] and moved into the mansion.” (cont.)
I think McCain's camp can use the tanning bed story as proof that she has global warming or energy expertise....

The story indicates that she used her own money to purchase a used tanning bed from a health club. If that is true, then why is it a political issue?
The only way this is even remotely scandalous is if there is a question about the source of the funding for the tanning bed. (I'd agree that providing the governor with a state-funded private tanning bed would not be a good use of taxpayer dollars.)
And hey, doesn't everybody want their potential VP to be the sort of individual who uses a f*ucking tanning bed?
Yeah...let's gather up all the people who use tanning beds and burn them at the stake! Bastards!
(Note - I have personally never used a tanning bed in my life. I'm a redhead and coat myself with sunscreen before spending any extended time in the sun.)
But the image of someone who would have and use a tanning bed in in their home conjures up in my mind someone not particularly deep, not particularly intellectual, somebody overly-focused on their looks, somebody who is all into the hair-nails-skin thing.
Of course, in focus-group terms, that's pretty much the type of female voter this ticket is seeking to identify with, IMO. So, maybe it makes perfect sense.
We want our VP's and Presidents to use fake tanning products and...Botox!

:-)
still annoying your neighbor with your Hillary sign?
Since he hates women so much I also added not one but two Tina Skeldon Wozniak signs for good measure.
One near the front where the Hillary sign lives and one right down by the tree nice and close so he can have a clear view.

a naughty girl.
Guilty as charged.

Sometimes the bed is ok but you'll have to stand in a booth later in the week to avoid white spots (from pressure points) or your underarms. I'm just saying.
than a $9,996 taxpayer-purchased shower in the mayor's office
Eek...I think that's something that most of us can agree on.
Yeah, I agree Sarah. I don't think it's a political issue at all. But still interesting...

I wonder if she has tan lines.....hmmmmm.
No one will care...
It's not like it's a story about her highering her high school friends to run government agencies or anything...
Besides you know the rules Pink.
Edwards + $400 hair cut = out of touch elitist
McCain + 10 houses = regular guy
McCain + $500 shoes = average joe
Cindy McCain + $250,000 ear rings = girl next door
Palin + home tanning machine = mid west values

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal agents searched the Capitol Hill office of a Louisiana congressman under investigation on bribery charges Sunday, while newly released court papers said agents found $90,000 in cash last year in his Washington home....The money was divided among various frozen food containers, according to the heavily redacted affidavit.
Is this "tanning bed" thing really news?
I bet there is a very short tanning season there. While it may sound vain, the reality; she is a former beauty pagent contestant therefore she has probably been constantly reminded that looks are important from a young age. The tan was probabaly a good self esteem builder when someone from Alaska looks like they just got back from the beach.
- Just the KAT, thinking out loud again.

everything you've said here is part of the reason I don't want this person one step away from running the country.
Haha...so she's pretty and has a nice tan. But to be FAIR, I'll retort with a conservative viewpoint (from National Review Online).....Sarah may be using the tanning bed to fight off depression.

when I say we appreciate your fairness, Pink.
has come out and has endorsed Barack Obama, "asserting the historic selection of a female Republican vice presidential candidate does not make up for John McCain's lack of support on issues important to women."
Some of those issues I believe are: that our sons and daughters are fighting in a war built on lies and are losing their lives everyday, that we as single parent households and housholds with two working parents are struggling to put food on the table for our children, that the food on the table is safe to eat, that we are able to keep the gas and the lights on in the coming months, that the infrastructure such as roads, bridges, railroad tracks, levies, dams, etc. are safe, that global warming be taken as a serious threat to humanity. These are a few of the issues that are important to me as a woman and a mother and grandmother.
Electing McCain will be more of the same Bush/Republican tactics and stragegies. As Hillary said, "No way, no how, no McCain." On this I can agree with her.

I may have posted my comment on the wrong thread. I really don't know anything about tanning beds or even tanning for that matter. Sorry.
