Riots and the Election

I was asked these questions the other day…

If Obama wins the election will there be rioting in the streets throughout the United States by McCain supporters?

If Obama loses the election will there be rioting in the streets throughout the United States by Obama supporters?

James Carville hinted at riots if Obama loses the election. In early October on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, James Carville proclaimed that Barack Obama will be the slam dunk winner of the election in November.

However, he followed up by hinting at riots if Obama were to lose.

First David Gergen keeps bringing up the race factor as an excuse for a possible Obama loss.

And James Carville suggest riots if Obama loses. He says, “Let me be clear, I said you can call the dogs and light the fire and leave the house. I think it sounds over. Now let me be clear here, if Obama goes in this race with a 5-point lead and losing this election, the consequences are - bull, man. I mean I don’t think that’s going to happen, but i think David it’s a point to bring up. But you stop and contemplate this country if Obama goes in and he has a consistent five point lead and loses the election, it would be very, very, very dramatic out there.”

Also more drama…

Authorities say someone slashed tires on at least 30 parked vehicles while their owners were attending a Barack Obama rally in a North Carolina coliseum.

I guess the true test of race relations in America, will be determined not by who gets into office, but what happens after the winner is declared.

I don't foresee massive riots if Obama wins. In fact, I think most people are expecting an Obama win at this point. Its not like it will be a huge surprise to anyhow. lol

I intend to vote for McCain, but I do think that Obama will win the election. After the election, that won't be a problem for me. I don't think Obama is a bad person - I just have some different political beliefs than him. But I'll support him same as I would any other President. (probably more than some presidents. lol)

I do wonder if there will be problems if McCain wins though. Not necessarily riots, but protests of some sort. Similar to the dissent after Gore/Bush, but perhaps even a little stronger. That's to be expected, I suppose...people would always be upset/skeptical in the event a heavily favored candidate lost.

(Sorry if there are typos, my computer is doing odd things right now!)

But there will always be idiots who react in stupid ways when provoked. I expect that - with the especially bitter campaign and the passionate partisans - that we will see an uptick in election-related violence if this is a "normal" election, with no hanging chads or Supreme Court decisions.

All bets are off if this election drags out for 30 days, though. The 2000 election saw a lot of extra tension due to the many electoral problems, and that was with a relatively healthy economy. If we see a repeat of 2000 with a bunch of anxious, agitated folks, I think it is safe to say that there will be more than an uptick in violence, though widespread rioting is unlikely. I would expect things like bombings of political headquarters or protests that get violent; again, not mobs of crazed partisans, but heated opponents acting out in uncivil ways (think 1968 Chicago).

Everyone, however, needs to take a deep breath right about now - it's an election, not a decision that will lead to Armageddon. Chill the f**k out, y'all.

If the Detroit Pistons win, there's a riot. If the Detroit Pistons lose, there's a riot. You tell me what's going to happen.

Chris,

As a supporter of this website and someone who has had many dealings with the Secret Service (positive and negative), I would suggest removing this post.

Talking about presidential candidates and "arming up" is very dangerous territory. This I know (not from actual experience, but from my interaction with the Secret Service during Dole 96).

I'm not exaggerating.

when the Black SUV's pull up in front of Chris's house he will be only too happy furnish the I.P. address('s)for Mr. JohnLaw. Course it will probably come back as Biggby's or Panerea Breads

Watch for it on the News.

Taking down the thinly veiled threats of Mike Coon (aka JohnLaw) might only serve to make him act in an even nuttier fashion. Maybe SwampBubbles serves a useful social purpose by allowing a loon like Coon to vent, and perhaps the site will prevent Mike Coon from following through on his "ARM UP AND AMMO UP" comments about Barack Obama and his supporters.

BTW - if you do decide to delete johnlaw's hints of violence, Chris, be sure to take some screen shots in case you need to document this idiot.

He kind of sounds like a cross between Timothy McVeigh and the Unibomber.

If the Secret Service doesn't have him on a list, it should. This guy is dangerous.

WOW

Whose more radical here? The Obamanites you despise or you? Now...don't get me wrong. Anyone around the Swamp can tell you I am not an Obama supporter but your diatribe against them takes it to a new level. Sounds like you are planning a new revolution. As BIF suggest...Chill. If BHO is elected we only have to live with it for 4 years then we can make another change. Sooner if he messes up Big Time as you suggest.

Who do you have in mind with your calls to "ARM UP AND AMMO UP"? Do you have any specific targets to shoot? Are there some groups or individuals you plan to attack?

Oh, and by the way: do us all a favor and post here when you are about to go ape-shit, so we can lock the doors and ride out the Mike Coon Shoot-em-up-Fest.

that he fears for the safety of him and his family?

maybe it is best to let him vent here, but to thinly veiled threaten such a public official in that manner, combined with his past antics, either shows me that this freak should have got the obligatory court-appointed psychological evaluation before being brought before the court, or the judge was a tad bit hasty in dismissing this case so abruptly because there are some severe underlying anger issues that were overlooked by the trained eye of the judge.

imho, oc
