I've been an oil man all my life

America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war.

I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil.

On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources.

What about each person saving money and then spending on energy efficiency materials and equipment? Personal responsibility is still a large part of the problem.

Yes, it is.

But we live in a consumer society. Consume more = better for us, we have been told.

Converse and use less = bad for business and economy, which is why the need to spend our stimulus checks on consumables, per our leadership.

I agree however a new source of fuel won't be realistically available for at least 10 years.

That said I want to see both candidates talk of opening up new drilling and new refinement capabilites. Threaten to break the oil companies stranglehold through government intervention.

Just the talk will be enough to scare the speculators into allowing the per barrel price to drop.

Besides that the only other thing I believe we NEED is new Nuclear Power Plants. They're a safe form of clean energy and the reason we haven't had a new one in the last 30 years is our politicians are too busy playing on unrealistic fears in order to keep the status quo.
