HIGHLAND HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING NOTES SEPTEMBER 11, 2008 6:30 p.m.Toledo Heights Branch Library 11 people present · Neighborhood Issues – 1. Several rental properties are eyesores in the neighborhood. We will ask for specific addresses so these houses can be inspected.2. Trees are blocking the sidewalk (Airline and Wayne) This is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed. 3. Ash trees need trimming on Wayne St. 4. Concern that the Ravine on Kennison St. is becoming a gathering place for large groups of high school students (fights taking place).5. A question of the procedure for speed bumps put on Wayne St. was discussed. This question was raised by Block Watch members.6. The neighborhood alleys really need attention. · Highland ParkLinda Pomeroy told us of the “wonderful improvement to Swan Creek” at Highland park.A big thank you to the volunteers who watered the flowers around the Highland park sign and at South and Airport. - The practice backboard at the tennis court needs to be painted.- A suggestion was made to have high school students become involved with painting around the skate park. It was suggested that the Arts Council could be involved in this project.Neighborhood Improvements:The façade on the buildings at South and Spencer look terrific.The new sign at the Tire Repair store on Fearing and Airport looks good. · Neighborhood Sewer projectLinda Pomeroy attended the public meeting regarding the sewer project in our neighborhood. She explained the sanitary vs. storm sewer and how they are in the second phase of this project. She encouraged us to complete the survey that was mailed to us. UPCOMING GOALS:- Continue the flower gardens next Spring and look for more volunteers to help maintain them.- Participate in the City Wide Clean up, especially in the Highland Park region.
