What a dream ticket! Obama and Edwards. This ticket will take care of the "working, hard working" "white" voter, that Obama couldn't attract and capture. :=)
This ticket can't be beat. Anyway you cut it Hillary is toast. I hear the lady singing "Ebony and Ivory" or is it Stevie and Paul?
Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord, why dont we?
We all know that people are the same where ever we go
There is good and bad in everyone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive together alive.
Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord why dont we?
Ebony, ivory living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, ooh
We all know that people are the same where ever we go
There is good and bad in everyone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive together alive.
Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord why dont we?
Ebony, ivory living in perfect harmony (repeat and fade)
I hope the fat lady is not singing :)
Oh Yeah, she's singin!

Yeah, and firing their AK-47s into the air - traditional celebration of victory, you know. I just wonder how that will square up with Obama's reasonable gun control laws?
Of course...Hamas, Hezbolla, Iran and Al Queda will be dancing in the streets
I think they'd be happier with another McBush in office. It would give them greater job security. Republicans and terrorists NEED each other.
John W McCheney: Osama, you complete me.
Osama: You had me at Islamofascist.
What was that terrorist's name that was a donor to the Republican Party?
Twila,
We have found an area of agreement! Obama-Edwards sounds harmonious to me, too!

Ebony and Ivory--- I heard on the way in to work today that this song was # 1 in the country exactly 26 years ago today. Good omen?
but the song is putrid top-40 tripe that I turned off or switched stations on when it was played 26 years ago....please, no more references to it, LOL.
Edwards was staking a claim left of Obama's already left-wing positions (he was the only candidate to support a single-payer Canadian-style healthcare system). Obama/Edwards will give results like McGovern had. Obama needs a moderating voice to have any chance come November. His best choice, in my opinion, is Ohio Governor Strickland. Strickland has actually appeared to be pretty centrist in most positions and is willing to work with Republicans. He even spoke highly of Republican tax cuts in Ohio this year.
when you wrote this.
I believe Obama could name Gloria Steinem as his running mate and he wouldn't lose 60%-38% as McGovern did in '72.
Look, Obama has some definite hurdles, not matter the running mate. Principally, in my opinion, I'll believe it when I seen it that this country elects a person of color as president.
I firmly believe there are way more closeted rascists and bigots out there than are credited for, and they're looking, searching, for any apparently-'valid' (other than skin color) reason to not vote Obama, even folks who are almost always vote Democratic. This Rev. Wright flap will have legs come November, and is a prime example.
On the other hand, all the national trends point to dissatisfaction with Republicans in general, how they would manage the economy, the war, etc. When the sitting president has a 20-something % approval rating and he's of your party, it carries significant weight.
This election will be relatively close no matter Obama's running mate.
I think you're right.....when I wrote that I was thinking Mondale but wrote McGovern (the numbers between he and McGovern were about the same, however). Either way, I agree with you that Obama wouldn't lose 60-40 like Mondale and McGovern. However, I do think Obama will lose by a significant margin against McCain if he doesn't move to the right significantly. It will be a solid 5-10 point win by McCain if he chooses as his running mate anyone like Edwards.
05/15/08
McCain 45%
Obama 46%
I'm surprised that someone would think Obama needs to move to the right. Someone else said a few days that McCain needs to move to the right as well. If anything, I think the last 7-8 years proves that moving to the right is harmful for America. We need to move to the left.
The general election hasn't started yet. His liberalism hasn't been highlighted yet because we're still in the primary season, and Clinton would be harmed by pointing out his liberalism. McCain will hit hard at Obama's liberalism because McCain's views on most everything are more in line with the "average" American than Obama's. Regardless of what would be good for the country in your opinion, it's the opinion of the entire electorate that matters.
The general election hasn't started yet.
Exactly. Once the Democratic nomination is secured, Obama's numbers will go up. If you look at the polling trends for Obama vs McCain, you can see that Obama has made big gains in the last week or so. This is because it's becoming more apparent that he'll get the nomination. And once this is secured, you'll see the Democrats unite and hit McCain where it hurts---in comparisons to Bush (i.e. more of the same). The media has already admitted in giving McCain a grace period--they'll start going after him too.
McCain's views on most everything are more in line with the "average" American than Obama's.
Where do get this? Americans are MUCH more closer aligned with Obama on healthcare, Iraq, the economy, etc.... That America is politically conservative is a myth. Obama will defeat McCain probably by a 55-45 spread, regardless of his running mate.
"This ticket will take care of the "working, hard working" "white" voter, that Obama couldn't attract and capture"
How the hell with Edward's track record take care of the working white voters??
We're taxed enough already.
He's white and he's hard working!!! :=)
Bullshit Twyla - as a congressman name one bill he introduced. He's done jack shit. He's no more than puppet.
Billy I'm sure it was an unintentional error, but Edwards was a senator and not a congressman.
I think an Obama-Edwards ticket would do quite well against McCain. McCain has major issues of his own and is running hard and fast to get away from Bush whom he supported passionately in 2004. Based on some polling I saw the age issue is of greater concern to most voters than the race issue.
Edwards is a good man - not perfect, but who is? He was also quite successful as a trial lawyer - but I can hear the moans of some now.
I do think it is a bit premature to assume that in return for his endorsement, Obama offered Edwards a place on the Democratic presidential ticket this year.
as a congressman name one bill he introduced
Here's one
Whoever ends up winning the Democratic Party nomination this year -- Senator Barack Obama or Senator Hillary Clinton (Most likely it will be Senator Obama) -- is going to need a strong running mate, a person who can bring with them some voting clout, potential to sway undecided voters, and not be someone who will drive Democrats to vote for the presumptive Republican candidate, Senator John McCain. There are several strong contenders for that position, such as Governor Bill Richardson and Senator Joe Biden, but they all pale in comparison to former North Carolina Senator John Edwards.
John Edwards as a vice-presidential candidate would bring with it almost instant name recognition (two presidential nomination campaigns and half of the unsuccessful Kerry-Edwards ticket in 2004). Name recognition counts considerably and brings with it psychological familiarity (a type of security) that a relative unknown or a lesser known candidate might present.
Edwards has the advantage of being known for his anti-poverty issues and does not have that stigma of animosity that has grown between many black voters and the Clintons (admittedly, this would make him better suited to being Obama's running mate, but would no doubt help considerably with black voters if Clinton were to get the nomination). He appeals to the common man through his blue-collar, working class roots and his rags-to-riches story (his father was a mill worker).
Edwards would also bring to the ticket strong union support. He was endorsed by many states' Service Employees International Unions, the United Mine Workers, the United Steel Workers, the Transport Workers Union of America, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, and others.
Senator Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, is also a plus. Name recognition again is a salient factor. And Elizabeth Edwards is well-liked, seen as a fighter (she is battling cancer), and would go a long way in securing the middle-aged female vote (the nation's largest voting bloc).
I like Edwards, as a matter of fact he was my first choice above Clinton or Obama, but he's not quite right for the VP spot. I'd really like to see him as Attorney General. Sadly, race and age to matter in an election and Obama would be better served getting an older white guy as a running mate.
Two of the biggest names that keep coming up -
Senator Web from Virginia. Very popular, as he as the Secretary for the Navy under Ronald Reagan. Great military background and no one is going to call him a flaming liberal. (Actually Republicans will, just like when Lieberman was running for VP and was painted as a flaming liberal) Put Web on your ticket and you get Virginia.
Governor Strickland from Ohio - Popular, ex-Methodist minister. Put Strickland on your ticket and you get Ohio.
Ohio is a Diebold election state just like Pennsylvania. So Ohio is not up for grabs even if Strickland is on the ticket with Obaaaaaama!
Byrd has come. An endorsement for Barack Obaaaaaaaama. What does that say about moving this country forward? Hello?
Did everyone know that Obama is the person responsible for comets hitting the Earth thousand of years ago. His critics might as well blame him for that as well.
is how Obama supporters can't see the reality through the distorted and cloudy stage show he calls campaign. Receiving voices of support by the likes of Ahmadinejad (Iran), Castro (Cuba), Ahmed Yousef (Hamas), Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the New Black Panther Party, Islam leader Louis Farrakhan only proves to point what Americas foes are hoping for. They must feel comfortable with Obama for a reason...Can we say Appeasement?
I do not know about you but this type of support for a US Presidential candidate scares the hell out of me.
Now I know this may seem far fetched, but....Everything I have heard or read concerning the takeover of America by terrorist suggest that we would be infected by a person(s) professing to be true US Patriots and whom would fit comfortably and inconspicuously into the framework of American Society. This person(s) then would be able to infiltrate our Government at the highest levels like Congress, Senate or dare we say President. How do we know for sure that Obama is not really a sleeper cell Islamic Fundamentalist carrying out his orders as described above?
Oh I hear all the denials of him being Muslim and do not believe it. I hear his denunciations of racist, hate mongering, Benedict Arnold's like Farrakhan and Rev. Wright and do not believe it. I hear his empty promises of no substance, I hear his plans for meeting with some of the most hostile foreign leaders, including those in Cuba and Iran. I hear of his Socialization of America ideas.
I do not know about you but these types of plans scares the hell out of me.
Wake Up people. We are not selecting an American Idol. He is no Rock Star. Do not be fooled by Obamapalooza. Barack Hussein Obama is dangerous to the freedom of the U.S.A.
I do not belive McCain or Clinton would be good to the United States but at least I do not think they would sell us down the river.
Barack ask us to believe. I'm sorry. I cannot believe in his plans to destroy this nation.

Excellent post & points here Kat.
I've never really trusted Obama, he's come out of no where to suddenly be the "it man" for the biggest job in our country. There is just something not quite right about him.
That is hilarious. Did you copy and paste that from The Onion? That is the funniest conspiracy theory since "Bush Planned 9/11".
Btw, remember when Reagan appeased the Soviets? He negotiated with the Iranians behind everyone's back. (Heck, he even sold them weapons)
all is right with my world!
