I read in the Blade today-that the mayor supports Richard Cordray's proposal to crack down on the evil credit card companies. I must be special, because I am completely satisfied with my 4 different credit card companies. This has to be an issue right? Anyway, Karen Shanahan asked a while ago, and Maggie Thurber tried to get Richard Cordray to answer the question on if he will ask cities to increase the amount of time to pay water bills. Will Carty also agree? He would have to right?
Carty against credit card company abuses -Will he support longer terms for water bills?

"The ordinance would urge the National Credit Union Administration, Federal Reserve Board, and Office of Thrift Supervision to adopt reforms proposed for the Federal Trade Commission Act, Truth in Savings Act, and Truth in Lending Act to protect consumers from unfair and abusive practice by the credit card industry."

Is the Fed agency really waiting to recommendations of a mid western Mayor?
I don't want to speculate and presume, but has anyone noticed what time this news conference took place? It took place at 1:15 p.m. which is approximately the same time that the law dept. was supposed to show up at the Port Authority to get the documents that the city ordered them to hand over. Coincidence?
neighborhood is right - what carty wants or dislikes wont have any bearing. He's too tiny a fish in a big pond to matter in something like this.
How about the vacant and dilapidated commercial buildings where business owners have walked away and take no responsibility to keep up the properties as they slowly decay, like the monument to the past near the former Jeep plant that is being stripped of any and all metal and the lot looks like a jungle with over grown grass and weeds.
Or how about the vacant and boarded up houses that are falling into disrepair and the resulting loss of tax revenue as the values of these properties and the neighborhoods they are in, continue to fall.
He only needs to walk a few blocks from One Government Center to see them, and as he has stated that he lives near the city center, so how about some attention to these matters, Mr. Mayor before we go concerning ourselves with credit card companies.
