Budding Congressman takes a step back

No need to fret, come to Toledo, get endorsed as a Democrat and you can get back into political office rather quickly.

works at now on Main st. He tells me he did nothing wrong ! But I think it is clear that he took bribes. He says folks had it out for him , and he didn't steal from anyone he says.

'No need to fret, come to Toledo, get endorsed as a Democrat and you can get back into political office rather quickly'.

There's stealing involved, right?

Like stealing from coin funds, stealing silverware, passing bad checks....maybe you meant a different political party.

(laughing at McCaskey's Noe reference)

Cogitate: I am surprised to hear this. While McCloskey fought the charges, in a recent Blade interview he sounded like he accepted responsibility.

"I made a mistake," McCloskey said yesterday. "I was a good city councilman, not a smart politician."

But I do agree that McCloskey has a right to feel singled out. I highly doubt that he was the only council person on the make, and that his political enemies tipped off the feds because they knew how to get him caught on tape. McCloskey, by his own admission, just was not as smart as some of the slicker political crooks, who know how to build more elaborate graft schemes than envelopes stuffed with cash, like that used by the unsophisticated Bob McCloskey.

Of course, McCloskey probably feels like he was sent to prison for things that go on all the time with many politicians. Now, as far as morality, maybe Bob McCloskey does not think like most citizens outside of politics and big money do: that bribery is flat out wrong. Perhaps Bob McCloskey is not just an isolated crook, but a symptom of a diseased and rotten political system.

THAT's a frightening thought.

you can go there and get a nice deli container and talk to him as a customer.    I was surprised too at his  assessment.    He thinks he was singled out,  and I think he could have ratted out more businessmen and politicians,  he refused  to do that I think,  so he alone took the sfiff  prison sentence.
