U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) yesterday waded into the energy policy debate in Congress on the side of expanding access to traditional energy resources - coal, oil, and nuclear power - as well as continuing the quest for alternative energies.
Bob Latta: more coal, oil, and nuclear power

I thought there was no drilling allowed in the Gulf Of Mexico, but this large oil company based out of Spain is drilling in the Gulf.

Too bad Bubba Clinton vetoed ANWR drilling
"In 1995, Republicans prepared to take up the battle again and included a provision for ANWR in the federal budget. President Bill Clinton vetoed the entire budget and expressed his intention to veto any other bill that would open ANWR to drilling."

Democrats once again make America SERVANTS to the Middle East. How does that Middle Eastern butt taste, Libs?
now we just need everyone else to realize this too.

We import mainly from Canada, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, but the harping about Middle Eastern oil continues.
It is also speculators driving our fuel costs up.
Every time there is some disruption, weather, problems in Nigeria, there is a price hike.
Then of course, China and India are placing heavy demands on the output from the suppliers.
Perhaps, there is simply to much demand.
Listening to The World on NPR, there was a report about how the EU has more train transportation, smaller cars, more efficient cars and higher taxes on fuel. The taxes pay for the development of rail and public transportation.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Bob Latta is part of the problem.
Lets start investing in real R&D on alternative energy sources instead of waiting for the oil companies to come up with something. With the shit load of money they're raking in, do you think that THEY care?
Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm.
-James Madison, Federalist No. 10, November 23, 1787
Does any rational thinker really doubt that if Al Gore had been sworn in as President as he should have been in 2001 (since he won the 2000 election) that the U.S. would be far along the road to energy independence, having poured billions into alternative energy sources instead of into a senseless was in Iraq? I remember those who voted for "W" because "W" was an oil man, and he would figure out a way to keep oil prices down. I remember when Republicans claimed that Iraqi oil money would pay for the cost of the Iraq war. Iraq is keeping their oil money, and the Iraqi government has a budget surplus!
The fact that "W" misunderstands economic issues so poorly, is a sad commentary upon the Yale MBA program! Did Daddy Bush pay for that MBA for "W" the way Daddy Bush and his friends bailed "W" out of his failed businesses? And now Republicans want us to elect a candidate who ADMITS he doesn't really understand the economy! Great idea!
And the U.S. Senate is holding up new sources of oil in the U.S. Our Senator Brown is at the top of that list.
YOu Democrats like Saudi oil rather than getting our own. Thanks for that info , N.C.
To get involved in the oil business?
The company's are drilling for oil, in many places.
People say we need less government involvement and yet at the same time, there is a call for more government involvement.
If it was as simple as a new source of oil, then the other countries effected by the price spikes would be drilling in every nook and cranny.
We have "developing" country's using more and more oil and the output of the refineries is at peak capacity. The supply of oil is steady and flowing but refineries are not able to meet the demand, for what ever reason. Lack of updates, refineries down for maintainence, etc.
If we did drill for more oil, and the drilling was completed 10 year or so years from now, and with the increase in alternative fuel vehicles, and refineries not being built and or upgraded, where would the oil from the drilling get us?
The oil companies would have new resources to sell to the buyers around the world. or do we really think that the newly drilled oil would be for U.S. consumers only.
