I was watching NBC 24 this evening and during their 7 PM news they were talking about the Marina District vote. They said that Michael Ashford hesitated in his response, and they asked him why. Ashford said: I think it is wrong to give taxpayer money to a private business (or developer). At that point I started LMAO, because this was the same Ashford who wanted to give money to businesses without matching funds? Tax payer money is money whether it is 5 k or 5 million. And he said it with a straight face, which is what made it more humorous.

(that article is the approval, not the initial idea of giving the money)
Well I needed a little humor tonight. Thank you Ashford. For this you are awarded the Irony Award this week. Maybe check out the 11 pm, news it may be on again.
The backwards business motto…
IT IS BETTER TO MAKE NO MONEY THEN SOME MONEY AS LONG AS I GET MY WAY…
I am sick of some council members and the mayor, steeling money from the taxpayers and then feel they have the right.
Sometime I just shake my head and take a deep breath then think; I can’t wait for election time…
Larry and Chris - I can't agree more.
Only problem about waiting for election time is the vast majority forget or don't care and pull the lever for the guy whose name they recognize and then we get the same thing over and over again. History invariably repeats itself when you don't observe and learn. I get a laugh when people tell me, why dig up the past and rehash it. They don't get it. You have look at where you have been and how you got here if the future will bring success. But most elected leaders see this as negative because it helps hold them accountable.
Perhaps Ashford makes such a stand not out of a matter of principle but because Carty supports the project and it was going to pass anyway. But I'm just speculating.
Isn't it about time for the Blade or Free Press to compare the people awarded grants for facade upgrades with Ashford's campaign contribution list?
