Are the smoke nazis setting off fireworks?

One has to wonder. My neighborhood is filled with smoke from fireworks. I think this year is worse than before and has even made it into our house. Will the smoke nazis stand up and protect us innocents from secondhand fireworks smoke, which unlike smoking is actually illegal? Probably not because it is not fashionable. Actually, I think it is funny how the smoke nazis only cherry pick smoker smoke. If they truly were concerned with secondhand "whatever" they would be going after fireworks, gasoline filling stations, cars, monster trucks, motor cross, NASCAR etc. Sorry that it turned into a smoking rant, but what about your neighborhood? Maybe some of these smoke nazis are the ones setting off the fireworks....

Don't give the anti-smoking Nazis another target to chase, Chris. We had a trying enough time tonight with the cops telling us we couldn't set them off. Bring in "health issues" on top of that? Lawdy!

The State of Ohio, like some others, does have tail pipe inspections.

"All gasoline and diesel-fueled vehicles equal to or less than 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW), 25 years old or newer from the current testing year, and registered within an E-Check county must comply with the E-Check requirement. All even model year vehicles must test in even-numbered years. All odd model year vehicles must test in odd-numbered years."

When I lived in Massachusetts, a vehicle had to be inspected for safety issues, like brakes, suspension components, etc., and tail pipe emissions.

It was state wide and not county specific.

Many were seated on the sledding hill watching the fireworks all over the South side of
town. I'm ready for them to quit so I can sleep , it's after midnight.

Excellent comment chris - good point. If the nazi's who claim they were protecting the employees really cared about employee health, they'd crack down on crab fishemen, mine workers, road workers (the fumes of tarring a road about gagged me, even with windows rolled up), popcorn & teflon factory workers (who are getting bizarre forms of cancer), etc. - far too many to list here. Clearly, tobacco is the 'unpopular' sin to target - but if they were serious about it's evils, they'd ban it nationally from being sold, owned & used. Too many people make too much money off of tobacco for that to happen though. (and I've noticed, that a good percentage of the smoke nazi's are very overweight - so much for health consciousness). Most restaurant & bar employees smoke anyway. It seems like there were more fireworks (noisy ones) tonight - and for far longer than usual. My dogs & cats are still terrified, hiding in the tub. Fireworks are expensive too - at least the ones worth watching.

More than 100 residents displaced after South Toledo apartment fire

A fire that started early Saturday morning damaged 11 buildings in a South Toledo apartment complex and caused more than 100 residents to be evacuated from their homes, fire officials said.

I also had a terrified dog to deal with. We'd never had issues before, but we also never before had the neighbors we have with two teen boys shooting off the fireworks right next door. The smoke, although we could smell it inside our house from 5pm thru the next morning, was not that much of an issue.

My issue is the noise, and the lateness of the hour. My spouse works at 0700 on Sat and Sun, therefore needs to get up at 0530. At 12:20 on the 4th, I finally went out and told the boys next door that it was late enough and they didnt need to go inside, but they did need to stop with the fireworks. Thankfully, they did.

Another neighbor on an adjacent street continued merrily on till 01:30 or so. I thought that was a bit over the top. In this 24/7 world, It's ALWAYS a work night for someone. I guess common courtesy for some is a thing of the past.

Now, back to my terrified dog - I was surprised that our vet's office was open on 07/05, but they were, and I was able to pick up an rx for my dog called Acepromazine.

It was very gentle. The rx says .25 to 1mg per lb, and they came in 25mg pills. I gave 1 pill to my 85 pound girl at about 6pm, and then two more at 930. Even tho the amateur fireworks were almost as much on 07/05 as they were on the 4th, she was very calm, and only barked and got angry at the loudest ones - the ones that were only a huge BANG. And this morning she is already up and playing in the back yard.

The pills were very reasonable ($4 bucks for 6 pills - which would hold us for 2 days) I will use my food saver to shrink wrap the remaining pills and put them in the back of the medicine cab. to hold for probably New years eve.

I dont know if Acepromazine would work for your small dogs as well as it did for me, but we did end up having an enjoyable 5th of July, where our 4th was pretty stressful.

is one the dumbest I've read in in a long time. I'm sorry. Equating smoke from fireworks, which are shot off nearly 100% of the time outside, with the public smoking indoors-ban issue? Please. That's a stretch of Herculeon proportions. And no, smoke blowing into your house from neighbors' fireworks doesn't count. How many times has that happened to anyone (except Billy; and I'm not saying that to dispute his story; I totally believe it happened, but still...).

Since those who wish to smoke indoors are the ones who seldom care about the effects on those around them, I'd say it's more probable the idiots who are still shooting off fireworks until the wee hours of the morning the smokers, not non-smokers.

And, anyone shooting off fireworks after midnight, and I believe that's very lenient, should be subjected to noise ordinances. It's a goddamn public nuisance.
