"Will Make Forward on Climate"? Translation? Anyone? Bueller?

Let me get this straight. They want you to drive your car to Ann Arbor, so you can take a bus to D.C. to listen to speakers and bands on the mall? That sounds like a lot of gasoline used by both the cars and busses coming from all over the country, then an enormous amount of electricity being used to power a sound system large enough for the expected 20,000 people. Not to mention the environmental damage to the National Mall that all those people will cause and the tons of trash sure to be generated by them. Sounds like another "do as I say, not as I do" event.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

Sorry buses are full maybe next time. Two buses will leave Ann Arbor. Buses from Detroit and Columbus also sold out. Bus will be picking up protesters in Sylvania Ohio. Huge last minute demand from what I'm hearing. Can always car pool. Fred you can still show your support by donating to the cause at http://forwardonclimatedetroitbus.eventbrite.com/#

they would walk to DC and save all that polution that diesel buses and auto fumes puke into the atmosphere.

Don't blame me,

THEY don't want to help with "cllimate change", they want YOU to help with climate change. Add up all the pollutants from these do gooders driving to where the buses are, the buses themselves crossing the country, the jets used by the "celebrities" so they can speak for 10 minutes, the power used by the stage. Useless morons.

Its a carbon based economy goof! Until we move from this unsustainable economy how else will it work? Sometimes your high school education just doesn't cut it. Next time you respond consult with the wife beforehand.

Oh love the Johny D, he can talk about a diverse subject matter. Doesn't rely on the Republican talking points. Looks to think for himself. What a change from that one horse bonehead from Virginia.

Well wolfman, Fred bikes to the Bay every year (or at least he did for many years I don't know if he still does). Maybe you should organize a Bike to the Rally?

MikeyA

Yes a carbon based economy, and will remain so until solar, wind, swamp gas are able to efficiently move goods across the country and people to and from their jobs. My wife said I should ask you if you are doing your part. How much of your electric use at home is provided by solar or wind power, how much have you cut back on your electric use in the last 5 years? Do you have a rain water capture system and a low flush toilet? Do you hang your clothes out to dry or do you use gas/electricity in your appliances? Do you drive an electric car? Are your appliances energy efficient or older less efficient models? How often do you bike to the grocery story? Do you buy products pack in styrofoam, and if not do you recycle? Are your clothes made in factories that use solar or wind power?
So many questions Wolfman, I wonder how many you will actually answer. These whiners talk a good talk but that's about it. They'll all have their laptops, cell phones, and video cameras handy to record and report on this great event not realizing the cost of producing those devices in man hours and energy. They'll think nothing of replacing them when they get old and recycling them, only so they end up in some third world garbage heap being picked over by kids.
Someone will make a documentary and CD of the event and cell it on DVD which is a petroleum based product.shrink wrapped in plastic.
You whiners want to do something? Do something constructive in your own lives and leave the rest of us the alone.
As an example Wolfman, I drive a Toyota Prius which for the last 8 years has given me 45 mpg each tank. How much fuel have you used in the same period?

Grocery story? Not sure what this is Fred? Please explain! Anyhow we need to evolve from a carbon base existence. Living in your E-cube on Winston only expands your waist line not your Neanderthal cave dwelling mind set. I've seen you limping around outside your protective pod. Not a pretty sight!

Well you succeeded in not answering any of the questions. You want us to evolve from a carbon based existence but you haven't told us how you are doing that in your own life. I dont' limp anymore, I had an operation on my knee.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

I do not have low flush toilets, but I do have energy efficient appliances. I drive a Honda Pilot that chews up the gasoline and I drive it everywhere. I don't profess to be a true champion of the environment but I will say my children have started recycling which I haven't done much before. I feel much better getting that off my chest.

Climate change? = maybe.
Man made? = bullshit.

JM -- Are there factors beyond human activity which affect climate? Of course! According to those who study the distant past, the world's climate has varied from ice ages to small polar caps with tropical climates dominating the earth, long before human beings made their entry onto the planet.
However, it took from the introduction of human beings a few million years ago until about 1804 for human population to reach 1 billion people. It only took from about 1999 to 2011 go from 6 to 7 billion people, adding 1 billion people in 12 years! It's impossible to deny that this huge increase in human population significantly affects the world's climate.
Can we accurately measure the effects the increase in human populations have had? IMHO -- No.
JM -- That doesn't mean that I ignore all evidence of the impact people have upon our earth's overall environment. And it doesn't mean that we bury our heads in the sand, or think about the fact that at my age (66 in April), I am unlikely to see the most extreme results of ignoring the need to do what we can to protect our small blue planet. I want my grandchildren, and all future generations, to have a decent environment in which to live their lives and raise their families.

I'm catching a ride on Redford's jet. He's going to fly from out west to Toledo then onto Washington, D.C. We'll be picked up by a limo at the airport, and we're staying at a high-rise hotel that has a revolving restaurant on the top floor.

I'm confused. These people are going to Washington to try to change the climate?

I hope Senator Elizabeth Warren is there because she could help by doing a rain dance.

on the board. Have been laughing my way through the posts.

As to your "confused" question - I'll take that one... [good question by the way].

No, from Redford to the everyday liberal loon-bats who will attend this event, this doesn't really have anything to do with worries about the climate.

These are throw-backs to the protests from the late '60's, early '70's. They long, not only for some cause with which to clothe themselves a cloak of (they think) goodness, but they want something akin to a modern-day Woodstock - where they can rub shoulders with other liberals. These people never "graduated" from the mid-1970's and their last years of school. They want to wear "flowers in their hair" again.

So they have chosen so-called climate change to fake rally around. You have to understand the liberal mind here. Liberals lost a lot of their arguments over the years. For instance - as Alan Keyes has said, conservatives won the abortion debate long ago - liberals just won't admit it yet. In the face of irrefutable pictures - they simply won't admit it. So, they have glommed on to "climate change" to argue about and coalesce around. It's their religion now. In other words, people who have rejected God, had to find someone or something else to worship. Voila - "climate change".

I say, let them dance on the mall in D.C., with flowers in their hair and beads around their necks. Who cares? The rest of us will keep busy doing what we have always done - take care of the people around us on a daily basis.

will Ted Nugent be performing there?

Ted Nugent will be the only one to be allowed to carry a gun-don't you know. Everyone else will be maced.

The glaciers are melting, the glaciers are melting!!

16000 years ago there were glaciers HERE! They seem to be gone now. Did our ancestors melt them with their power plants and hemi's?

I still remember back in school being taught that there would be another ice age.

People like Redford are the worst of the global warming bullshitters. The kind of guy who, AFTER he has his huge ranch in some beautiful wilderness area, wants laws made to stop further developement.
His "carbon footprint" is likely a million times bigger than mine will ever be.

I'm still waiting to see a reply from Fred's questions above. Any response Paul?

According to the Sierra Club, sponsor of the Forward to Climate event, the attendance was 35,000. Apparently they are happy with that number despite the fact that is is only 0.011149549093121161 of the population of the U.S. Hell even Glenn Beck beat that number.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

I would bet I could do a Citizens Against Protests protest on the National mall and get a higher turnout.

MikeyA

LOL Fred,

We should go to next year's and hold up signs that read "Worst Springsteen Concert Ever!"

On Saturday I asked Wolfman a series of environmentally important questions which he has yet to answer. I don't expect he ever will because as many of the tree huggers do they talk a great game but don't make the sacrifice necessary. Here's a list of some of the products made from petroleum, I wonder how many Wolfman has in his home.

Americans consume petroleum products at a rate of three-and-a-half gallons of oil and more than
250 cubic feet of natural gas per day each! But, as shown here petroleum is not just used for fuel.

IT TAKES OIL FOR FARMERS TO RUN TRACTORS

IT TAKES OIL TO TRANSPORT THAT FOOD TO MARKETS ON SEMIS

IT TAKES OIL TO RUN CARGO SHIPS THAT DELIVER THAT FOOD TO STARVING COUNTRIES.

IT TAKES OIL TO GET THAT LIFE-SAVING FOOD FROM SHIPPING PORTS TO THE STARVING PEOPLE OF THE WORLD.

IT TAKES OIL TO FEED THE WORLD. Want a "smaller carbon footprint"? Just let the world starve.

Those climate changers really know what they're doing. It was a little cloudy in Toledo this morning--and then the CLIMATE CHANGED to be sunny.

That Al Gore--when he wasn't busy inventing the internet--he noticed occasionally the climate would change. A genius I tell you!

Wolfman eyewitness account:

Estimates of between 35,000 to 50,000. Weather cold and blustery. I'm happy to report no trash on the ground (major concern of the gotcha crowd). Crowd was infiltrated with the few YouTube provocateurs and a sprinkling of fossil fuel agents. Most in attendance, and the crowd I traveled with, were either college students or of the post graduate crowd (no knuckle dragging talk show hosts).

You would guess the Entertainer would dwell on numbers in attendance. Should I even respond? Glenn Beck had a balmy summertime rally. A rare free Glenn Beck performance. We had a cold windy bone chilling rally that all withstood to its entirety. I seen men and women in the late seventies out among the freezing crowds. Now Beck had a national following that has all but evaporated after FoxNews dropped him for being a kook. A kook that was even too extreme for the Fox network. A national painful parody of what the Tea Party has become.

The Forward on Climate Rally had none of this. Just behind-the-scene groups concerned about the lack of movement towards a sustainable economic environmental future. These people are not easily swayed by political propaganda. They know the science, they can see the consequences to future generations. Paid performers have their own agendas.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

I'm dwelling? Fact check- Wolfman post headline "roaring success" estimates of 35,000-50,000.
You realize that even the Detroit LIons as bad as they are draw that many on Sundays. And back to the Prius Envy again. What mileage do you get in your car? And answers to all the other questions I asked.

You realize that this was promoted on social media? No large budget to get out the message. This was a collaboration of many non profit groups including religious organizations. It was billed the largest ever environmental protest. That goal was met by a huge number. This movement is growing as more and more realize the environmental predicament we have created and the need for change. No longer can Wall Street lead our country into an ecological environmental disaster. We need to make a real effort of change before its too late.

In addition to the Washington rally there were solidarity rallies held all around the country. Austin, Las Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle come to mind.

Here's what I realize. That all your excuses can't cover up the fact that the movement is small. 35,000 is nothing. You claim it was the weather. Seating at Lambeau Field is 72,928 and it is sold out each game for the last 20 years.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

havent been out here for a while, but when I last checked Wolfie was all up Fred's tailpipe because he was doing his part to save the planet and drove a Prius, and now Paul's all carbon footzie'ing??

Made a living and is living his retirement from $$ from building gass guzzlers and then tells everyone else how to live?

damn, he is drinkin straight off Gore's tap, isnt he?

Prius made in Japan shipped on a fuel guzzling boat to America. Does not promote American employment for local demand. Carbon wasteful. Jeep will be building a fuel efficient Toledo built Jeep on sale this May. Good time to trade in the un-American built Prius an promote local Toledo employment that supports local business.

We need a new American goal similar to the space program, an alternative energy program that is safe for the environment and allows huge cuts to our unaffordable military industrial complex. This won't happen tomorrow but we need to get started now.

Fred your ignorance is astounding. You do know President Eisenhower created the interstate highway system. He also supported federal tax rates as high as 90%. The 1950s economy was booming throughout his two terms except for one year. He also promoted the Eisenhower Doctrine which would not make him a Libertarian.
