NEWS: Brian Wilson states he's out at WSPD (gives two week notice on air June 1st)

First it was the swamp gas now we hear Brian Wilson moves to another position (his words) out of town (announced on the morning show). After five years at WSPD Brian Wilson hopefully moves on relieving Toledo of the controversial extreme right wing talk show host. Hopes for Toledo that WSPD finds its roots as a news talk station, fair and balanced, and not a partisan wing of the republican party.

Radio talk show host Brian Wilson's reasons for leaving Toledo are petty, tacky, offensive and patronizing ("Radio host: Physicians advised me to relocate," May 28).

The man has the gall to call himself one of us while he and his wife are living 500 miles away in Virginia. If Andy Stuart, WSPD's vice president and market manager, had any common sense, he would wash his hands of Wilson.

The station's next afternoon personality should be someone who lives in the Toledo area, has the pulse of a community that encompasses all points on the political spectrum, and isn't a clone of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck.

As for Wilson, good riddance. Don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.

This is almost as funny as the time Russ Lemmon believed that KISS-FM was going to switch to subscription radio........ on April 1st. What is that sound effect that sitcoms play when someone does something really stupid? We need to play it for Wolfie now since the story as posted by the Blade is false. Wha wha wha wha whaaaaaaaaaa splot!

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

So is the Blade reporting based on Wolfman's posts? Wolfman posted Brian was leaving before the weekend.

Not sure what is funnier!

Yes Fred I remember the Kiss FM skit on Russ Lemmon! Remember Denny Schaffer too! If you read the blog I left a little wiggle room, reporting only what you and BMW said. I've learned long ago not to trust anything said on WSPD. So are we going to have local control over who hosts the local news or are we going to have pot shots taken at us from some uninformed irresponsible load mouth 500 miles away?

Wolfman you are no better then the very one you accuse i.e. BW. Your despise clouds what should enlighten you concerning what needs to be done to turn around this city.

Scott Sloan's ratings went from fantastic to right down the toilet in that time slot when he started doing his show from WLW in Cincinnati and couldn't have his finger on the pulse of Toledo anymore.

Are you sure that was Sloan? I know Sloan is at WLW now, but are you sure he moved there first?

You should have let Wolfie lead the pack on this story for a while longer!

Neither the Blade or I got the story wrong. If you care to read the blog or the following Blade story you'd see both the paper and I only quoted the lie that BW blathered to the radio audience. I think Toledo is wise to the antics played for ratings at the "News Talk" station.

Hilarious that the Blade headline is also in the list of the Yahoo! news headlines to the right on this site.

Story not found. lol

I'm happy that Wilson is leaving and it will fun to see how much slash and burn he tries to leave in his wake. Only two more weeks!

The Blade has pulled the story....

Senselss, see above reference to announcement being a joke.

Maybe the sarcasm was lost on me this morning at 7:55am. I was admittedly distracted. Something about Wilson leaving in two weeks and Smith taking another roll internally.

If I missed the big joke, than I stand corrected. Disappointed and corrected.

Big deal. Must be liberals writing in. After all, that's the way libs work, don't like something?, don't just avoid it easily, try and make it impossible for anyone to enjoy/use, whatever.

I would have replied earlier but I had stop by the radio station to see how the Dixie Chicks CD smashing was going and I had to run into the public library to make sure there weren’t any Harry Potter books or books about gays.

Of course when I got home I had to burn all the non-Kings James versions of the bible, tore up my kid’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear books and destroyed Pixar’s WALL-E DVD.

Now, please continue JeepMaker...

I believe most of the posts here are liberal, and this bias leaves us with the Toledo we have now. The point is to see and acknowledge the corruption and greed of this city and then change it for the better. Don't let your despise or hate for someone overshadow the truth. We all know or should know that what Brian and Fred have been talking about concerning this city is the truth. It’s time to set aside such labels like Republicans and Democrats, and do what is necessary to turn this city around, along with the country.

"DTOM" {1776} " We The People" {1791}

We all know or should know that what Brian and Fred have been talking about concerning this city is the truth.

Now before all you progressives start bleating about his statement, remember a former Mayor accused them of Mis-truths, half-truths and outright lies, but failed - when asked to be able to bring up any examples...

:)

:) BTW Brian does know a thing or two about radio. I am thankful to have received his advice and have opportunities to host on WSPD.

So Brian Wilson--or somebody from WSPD--put out a phoney 'statement' today that he was leaving WSPD, the Blade reported what he said as fact, he really isn't leaving, and this is all the big yuck?

The whole 'doctor ordered me to move away from the Great Black Swamp' is part of the little frat-party prank?

LOL, wow, anyone remember when WSPD was an actual NEWS station and not a carny sideshow-act with strippers having sex with midgets?

Today had been announced as a major announcement day regarding the station. Wilson said he was leaving, after 3 seconds of silence, they started dying laughing, Fred made a crack of the Blade already writing the headline, they made clear that wasn't the real announcement, made the real announcement, and the Blade looks stupid which is nothing new.

So, just how long was the 'Wilson is leaving WSPD' or whatever headline on the Blade website?

I mean, if it was there for most of the day, or even all morning, that's one thing. If if was there for 20 minutes that's another.

Does it really matter? WSPD is reduced to playing teenage-level pranks, like kids going around ringing doorbells doing 'ding-dong ditch', on its media rivals. They setup a 'phoney announcement coming' to play out all weekend until Monday, have a phoney statement, then a big belly-laugh.

That's it, eh?

Guess the Wilson-broadcasting-from-Virginia stories hit home, after all.

Well, first I've got good news - we are almost to hump day although it does seem like Monday.

Second, yeah this is what Toledo news and politics is always reduced to, no?

You know, Thomas, I actually KNEW it was Tuesday, i just decided to lie and have a little fun with you, ha, ha, so you'd react to my mis-information.

And now, look--your statement about me thinking it was Monday is online for all the world to see forever!!

GOTCHA!!!....lol.

OH SHOOT! Now I look like the Blade!

I think you just pulled a Wilson! lol

if just for a minute...how long was the Blade headline about Wilson on it's website?

Anyone know?

And is the part about Wilson's allergies and him having to move from this area part of all the slap-stick?

FRED????????...

I think I heard Brian say it was up for a matter of a couple minutes. Not sure about the number, but I am confident in saying it was far less than an hour.

The Blade does not look stupid...WSPD does, for engaging in grade-school level pranks.

What the Blade SHOULD have done is kept the story on the site, updated it with the statement being phoney, badgered WSPD by calling and asking why they did what they did. And if they wouldn't talk to them, report that.

What you all are conveniently overlooking is that radio is a business and radio is entertainment. Brian Wilson is not required nor obligated to tell you anything about his life or his decisions. He is employed to do a radio show and entertain people and make money for Clear Channel. Apparently the company is happy with his performance and the dollars he brings in.

The Blade's rightous indignation regarding Wilson's residence is an excuse to try to sell more papers and make money. It's also a way for The Blade to attack a competitor.

It's entertainment! You think wall to wall coverage of Crystal Bowersox is journalism? If you don't like what you hear on the radio, don't listen. If you don't like what you see on local TV news, don't watch. If you don't like what you read in The Blade, don't buy it. Simple.

The Brian Wilson/Chystal Bowsersox 'stories' may not be in the Woodward and Bernstein category; the Blade or any other news organization will not win Pulitzers by covering them.

They are 'soft' news, 'entertainment' news, the kind covered by every media outlet, in various forms, from Fox News/CNN to Time Magazine to The New York Times to the West Toledo Herald.

The fact is, Brian Wilson is a noted local radio/entertainment 'personality.' People WILL read (or watch or listen to) stories about him, if he leaves town or not, if he stays or not, if he says something outlandish on his show and so forth, much as they would about any other local 'media' personality...Diane Larson or Lee Conklin or Jerry Anderson or Blizzard Bill, whomever, or on a national scale Don Imus or Howard Stern.

You make the point how Brian Wilson makes money for Clear Channel, how it's all about business and ratings, etc., then decry the local daily for 'trying to sell more papers and make money.'

Always try to have it both ways?

Let's not forget how this is all good for WSPD as well from a ratings standpoint; they love it every time the local paper does a story on Brian Wilson or anything else concerning them.

Controversy like this means a few more readers for the Blade and few more listeners for WSPD. Everybody 'wins'. Remember what you said now; it's all business....right???

And, you can always exercise your freedom of choice to not read online forums on topics like this if it bothers you so much, just like listeners can change a channel if they so desire or read a different paper than the local daily, if they so desire.
