There is no "brightest generation". Not before, not now, and it's highly unlikely to happen in the future. Humans are fairly dumb as a rule. People make a big deal about IQ, for instance, but the average United States IQ of 100 still isn't that bright. Look at their works; the average person runs into so many mistakes in his life that it's really a rank condemnation of the average intellect.

And higher IQs run the significant risk of insanity. Even when they're functional, they sure as hell don't breed much.

At any rate, we have direct proof about the failures of the WWII generation, since in fighting that war, the winners allowed their governments to take on the same Fascist methods of their opponents. The United States and Britain in particular became ruled by a military-industrial complex that just kept the same welfare-warfare economic structure in place. A truly smart generation (which as I've claimed above, never existed, doesn't exist and probably never will exist) would have seen that immediately and acted to tear down such a complex.

I just did a rather nice "reply" about "Chicken Bill Maher", who never served in the military, and the "Preview" button wouldn't work. Then when I tried it a second time, I got a ridiculous "error" message that made no sense.

So, let's try this once more.

Bill Maher was born in 1956. He was 18 years old in 1974. Luckily for him, the Vietnam War draft ended in January 1973, But he COULD have served. Maybe right after he got his useless History/English degree (?) A phony and non-patriot like Maher has no business criticizing ANYONE who served in the military.

As to either "brightest" OR "good" generations - there are no such of either. But by using the "good generation" hook, Brokaw sold lots of books.

You also hit on something regarding intellect. Einstein is said to have exhibited several Aspergers traits.

Regarding your last paragraph, GZ -- my opinion has long been that we should have stayed home from both WWI & WWII. For some very good reasons. But both of those wars, like Vietnam, included drafts. And the men & women who served should not be disrespected.

A lot of the "cold war" was theater for the masses. Most U.S. citizens don't get that - but I can give one really great example. It's in the book by Malcolm Muggeridge.. "My Life in Pictures" (available at the local library). Mugg recounts that either during or not long after WWII, engraving plates for U.S. currency were sent to Moscow. Squaring nicely with the reality that most of the "cold war" was theater for all of us - we the great unwashed.

Have you served? You criticize me and I currently serve so do you only have that right if one has served?

I do not like Maher but I recognize him as a fool and ignore him. I am actually shocked he still has a show and people care about what he says. Being that Paul is quoting him it's obvious he caters to the lowest common denominator. I do give him credit for ignoring the conspiracy theorists.

You follow me around the board, and have done so since I first logged on here. [As in, "oh, I don't like your posts, oh you are wrong, oh you couldn't have been a very good private plane pilot, oh this board was so much better years ago"... bleahbitty bleah bleah bleah.]

You went after Roland Hansen AND his wife, long before I ever posted here, for no good reason, with similar nut-job postings. Since the Hansens appear to be 2 liberals, you are apparently an equal opportunity troll. Wolfman says you have followed him around on this and other message board(s). For the most part, ditto what you said about Maher, I recognize YOU as a fool (as well as a troll who is assigned to be here), and for the most part, I ignore you. Until it becomes necessary, from time to time, to give the readers/lurkers another "clue".

***********************************
I've told this troll all this before, so this reply is really for the readers/lurkers. This troll tries to start argument upon argument about whether or not he is in the military. I - and a Marine friend who has recently examined his posts going back several years - we say he is NOT military. The military would have booted out a porn fan and poster, such as trollie wollie, with a dishonorable discharge long long ago. At this point, I don't think many regular readers or posters here are fooled by him anymore.

"You follow me around the board," I post public comments on a public board. I don't follow you anywhere. I have a rule with you. I only comment on the stupid posts and they are plentiful.

"You went after Roland Hansen AND his wife, long before I ever posted here, for no good reason, with similar nut-job postings. Since the Hansens appear to be 2 liberals, you are apparently an equal opportunity troll." I didn't "go after" Roland. Roland brought an argument from facebook to here in an effort to gain sympathy. He attacked the fact that I choose to remain anonymous. I merely displayed that retaining one's anonymity on the internet is a smart thing to do. Roland doesn't come here to attack regular posters and thus I now leave him alone.

"Wolfman says you have followed him around on this and other message board(s)." Paul is your back up? You talk about attacking posters and their wives. Paul attacked Brian Wilson's wife and had to apologize for slanderous comments or face litigation.

Paul accused me of following him on Toledo blade and Toledo Talk. I was posting at both sites way before he did. This is a matter of record and you can look it up.

"For the most part, ditto what you said about Maher, I recognize YOU as a fool (as well as a troll who is assigned to be here), and for the most part, I ignore you." You don't ignore me. If you ignored me you wouldn't respond.

"This troll tries to start argument upon argument about whether or not he is in the military. I - and a Marine friend who has recently examined his posts going back several years - we say he is NOT military." You expect us to believe you have friends? "The military would have booted out a porn fan and poster, such as trollie wollie, with a dishonorable discharge long long ago." If porn was a dishonorable discharge offense there would be no military. Anyone in the military would attest to this. Owning/watching pornography in general is not a dischargable offense let alone a punitive one. Dishonorable discharge is worse than a bad conduct discharge. A person can only be dishonorably discharged when convicted by a general court-martial.

Of course I wouldn't expect anyone who isn't in the military to know that.

Did you mean Chicken MikeyA ?

No I actually don't think you have to serve to be brave and not serving makes you a chicken.

What annoys me is FG talks so much shit and doesn't back anything of what she says up. The shit she spews is disgusting. At least Bill Maher is educated about his opinions, I still think he's a fool, but she's ignorant and has no intent on educating herself.

When she attacks others she makes baseless claims or resorts to religious demagogery. If she lived in Westboro, Kansas I know where she would attend church.

I've maintained for a long time that the so-called 'average man' is doing good to find his way home every night. My theory is that the bell curve lost its shape two or three generations ago. Two or three trailer park generations, that is.

I like Bill Maher. He calls out all the right wing closet queers. Bill Turkey neck O'rielly is a fool. He married one of flavor flav's ex- bitches.

They definitely were the most violent generation.
