He blames the flight of jobs and people on the highways? Really? Like New York doesn’t have highways.

In many ways New York was worse off in 1980. It had a crime rate of over 70% the rest of the world. What happened? They brought in sensible leadership in the form of Koch and Guilliani who laid the ground work for the lowered crime rate and thus movement into the city expanding the tax base.

Detroit’s crime rate is still too high. That combined with how they’ve continually given away more and more promises in terms of future pensions while their tax base shrunk. It was unsustainable.

The “expert” in the video’s qualifications are as follows: GM worker, former UAW union rep. and local President, organizer at School of the America’s. So he’s more than qualified to talk about municipal government fiscal issues (sarcasm).

Any bets he lives in one of those suburbs and NOT in Detroit.

This media outlet is called "The Real News". Why couldn't they find someone qualified on municipal government fiscal issues and not a union hack to interview? Hell you could find a financial planner who specializes in bond underwriting and that would be a more qualified opinion on the topic.

Notice he didn't come up with any solutions beyond "firesale" which is a short term solution and he complains about the only long term solution that's been offered.

The interviewee must be a friend of Paul's.

"Any bets he lives in one of those suburbs and NOT in Detroit."

The loudest Liberals live in lily-White neighborhoods. They won't live near Blacks, nor work with Blacks, and most especially they won't send their precious brood to school with Blacks. Liberals are as racist as anyone. They are certainly as racist as the card they keep playing.

As for the selloff of Detroit... how else will it happen? People with money will prevail if there's a fire sale. "People with money" means NOT YOU. It means the elite. This is how it always happens. And you'd have to have more than half a brain to have seen this coming.

This guy is a screw up. He blames the INTERSTATE highway system for jobs moving to the suburbs. They didn't need INTERSTATE highways to move to the suburbs. My folks moved to the suburbs in 1951 because they got tired of living in a neighborhood with no yard and not enough room. The markets, department stores etc followed my folks and the others who were leaving Detroit because they could afford to do so.
This asshole calls what happens a "mishap". This is no mishap you jack ass this is the direct result of many years of mismanagement by Democrat politicians who failed to respond to a changing world. They held on to the lighting system, the water system, the art museum, and Belle Isle long after they could afford to do so.
He speaks of a lack of democracy. Detroit is not a Democracy you fool.
This fuck up blames the banks. Does he not realize if it wasn't for the banks holding up Detroit all these years they would have been gone years ago.
And then he brings in race? What a dick. You have a black population a black city council, mayor, and numerous heads of government offices.
What a tool.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

Even better. With him blaming the Interstate system I guess we should ask why the Dems have been touting more stimulus to improve the infrastructure, going so far as to cite the Interstate Project as a success that should be duplicated.

Fred, did you see the clip of Sgt. Schultz blaming... get this... Republican policies for ruining Detroit. LOL. What Republican. Where. If he's talking about Gov. Snyder and RTW well then that Governor in Michigan and that RTW law must be very powerful to undo the financial stability of Detroit in less than a year. LOL

Here's Frank on the Korean trade agreement.

He mentions the original agreement signed by George Bush but neglects to mention that it was President Obama in December of 2010 who finalized all the parts of the agreement. And of course Frank fails to mention any of this info from the government website.....The United States and the Republic of Korea signed the United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) on June 30, 2007. On December 3, 2010, the United States and Korea concluded new agreements, reflected in letters signed on February 10, 2011, that provide new market access and level the playing field for U.S. auto manufacturers and workers. Congress approved the agreement on October 12, 2011, and Korea’s National Assembly approved it on November 22, 2011. The United States and Korea completed their review of the measures both sides had taken to implement the FTA and exchanged diplomatic notes on February 21 agreeing to bring the agreement into force on March 15, 2012.

The Agreement is the United States' most commercially significant free trade agreement in almost two decades.

The U.S. International Trade Commission estimates that the reduction of Korean tariffs and tariff-rate quotas on goods alone will add $10 billion to $12 billion to annual U.S. Gross Domestic Product and around $10 billion to annual merchandise exports to Korea.
I'll think I'll take anything Frank says with more than a grain of salt.

Watch for the special guest star idiot who gets on stage and tries to get as much attention as possible for himself......he even has a t shirt with his name on it for cryin' out loud, what a maroon.

I just watched this.

Right on two accounts. He is out of Warren, MI not Detroit. It appears Paul has crossed paths with him.

Am I a genuis or a psychic. Maybe that could be the next poll on here because we've been very poll happy on SB lately.

I don't know who this guy is, but I like him.

Hey Fred I thought you said this guy was a union hack, thug, sock puppet? What's he doing protesting in front of the UAW Solidarity House? It's simple, you don't know what your talking about. Is just goes to show your ignorance is legendary. Luv the photo shopped picture. Did you get permission to use it in that way from Frank? I...don't....think....so! Does ClearChannel approve of this type of activity by one of its employees?

Hey Fred, what about this protester in the shuffleboard outfit? Know this guy?

It was I who called him a union hack and I stand by my words.

He only offered the typical Dem/union talking points about how the "banks" did this yet he offers no solution to the problem. It's because there is only one solution to the problem. When you don't have enough money you can't pay everyone.

Your posts only refer to Detroit as the place where aluminum is stored. I see nothing in it to show how either link is related to the topic at hand.

If you want to discuss American debt I'm willing, start a new thread and we'll hash it out. But let's focus on Detroit's problems here.

MikeyA

Detroit's problem is its dependence on manufacturing when our leaders sold us to China, South Korea, and Japan ETC. Leaders from BOTH parties have enriched themselves on the backs of the Middle class Midwest. To think that this area would become dependent on service jobs was and still is laughable. Many of us (including Frank) seen this coming decades ago. Now we live with the foolish media loudmouths who give us the slight-of-hand blaming others. Detroit will be the first but not the last. I think in Michigan alone there are some 8 cities with emergency managers. As long as we have corporate shills spewing nonsense to the gullible our decline will continue.

So your solution is no solution just complaints. Got it.

MikeyA

"Many of us (including Frank) seen this coming decades ago."

I don't see you people missing a meal or driving sensible cars. For all the talk I hear from the mouths of the middle class, I seldom see the intestinal fortitude to live frugal lives, which was the only sane response to fleeing capital.

The middle class really is to blame for much of this. Instead of preparing for a future of being abandoned by the capitalists, they kept borrowing and spending. Now they're fucked more than ever.

And the government is the same way. Look at Detroit. Instead of cutting costs to adapt to a shrinking tax base, they went on a borrowing spree and kept paying out huge wages, enormous benefits, and gargantuan pensions. Who the fuck told them to do that? Well it looks like their mulatto President isn't going to bail them out. No real adult was around, until Snyder dropped his dick and decided to finally do something about it. I guess the $18 billion total liabilities finally woke him up. Now Papa Orr is delivering the spanking. This is all a good thing, particularly the shrill screaming of 'screwed' union guys.

Yes that's me speaking in public in front of and to city council, not standing behind someone speaking while holding a sign and grinning stupidly. Do you see the difference?
I know this will go over your head mrignorant but both the video you post of me and the video posted on youtube by frank? were taken in public settings, and posted in public website so no permission is needed. That's why I've never asked if you have permission to use my likeness. Now as for the asshole holding the sign, he put himself in that position to get attention. You can tell by the way he moves to get into camera range and then opens his shirt a little more so people can see what it says on his chest. He's proud of his ignorance and his witty sign. My parody of him needs no permission he's in a public place.

Fred how many protesters showed up at your heavily promoted city council meeting? Four? Seems Frank can gather a crowd larger without the benefit of a WSPD radio station promotion. Clown Fred performs his silly act on radio and then foolishly thinks anyone cares enough to come to his protests. Truly funny and sad at the same time. Your video has 447 hits after a year on the web. Most of your posted utube videos average less than a couple of hundred views. Truly pathetic!

Your photo shopping is not exclusive to public images I think ClearChannel should know you've photo shopped copyrighted Getty Images many times here on Swampbubbles. We do appreciate you taking your valuable time away from your family to spend on these juvenile photos. It gives new meaning to what WSPD "the news station" will do for a story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd8W1dPE604

A cat falling asleep on a windowsill and tumbling off could get a million youtube hits. What does that prove? That the cat is more important than Frank and me, I don't think so. You seem to believe that the number of reads and replies to your posts have some impact on your importance in the world. Maybe in your mind they do, not mine What happens here on the internet is of little importance in my life which is why the bad photoshopping doesn't bother me, I just wish it were better.
You didn't address any of the issues both Mike and I raised about Frank Hammer. And you didn't address the issue of you trying to capture some attention for yourself by getting on stage behind Frank who by the way failed to introduce you as someone of importance. Did that sting a little?

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

According to Mrigorant the number of views determines how important the subject matter is for any video. For instance he keeps track of how many people veiw my youtube videos as opposed to how many viewed Frank Hammer's. Here's a video that has 186,859 views as opposed to the 376 that Frank has......

Yep, a hack.

http://voiceofdetroit.net/2012/04/14/detroiters-tell-council-to-stand-up...

"Frank Hammer, life-long union activist: Today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated for going to fight for city workers and for opposing the war in Vietnam. You are determining whether we have democratic voice in this city. This consent agreement comes from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy and the Koch Brothers."

Yes the Koch Bros had an evil plan to bankrupt the city of Detroit and deny people their pensions.

Their Plan:
Step One: Bankrupt Detroit, deny pensions
Step Two: ?????
Step Three: Profit!

MikeyA

Chicongo=Obbummer,
Toledo=Obummer...any of you liberals see a correlation ?!
I didn' t think so...

So I guess the downfall of Detroit IS STILL THE UNION'S FAULT.

The Union hacks built the highways, NOT private industry.

Apparently, Union Hacks building highways and raping taxpayers IS the reason Detroit is now a bankrupt shithole.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.
