The American Dream (George Carlin)

Transcript

But there’s a reason. There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason it will never, ever, EVER be fixed.

It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got.

Because the owners, the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.

Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don’t want:

They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. Thats against their interests.

Thats right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don’t want that!

You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this fucking place! Its a big club, and you ain’t in it! You, and I, are not in the big club.

By the way, its the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care! Good honest hard-working people; white collar, blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means, continue to elect these rich cock suckers who don’t give a fuck about you….they don’t give a fuck about you… they don’t give a FUCK about you.

They don’t care about you at all… at all… AT ALL. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Thats what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick thats being jammed up their assholes everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth.

Its called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Socialists

The black fist, also known as the Black Power fist is a logo generally associated with black nationalism and sometimes socialism. Its most widely-known usage is by the Black Panther Party in the 1960s.

Don't dismiss protest
http://www.toledoblade.com/Editorials/2011/10/06/Dont-dismiss-protest.html

The pundit class has largely ignored, dismissed, or mocked the Occupy Wall Street protest. The Wall Street Journal's editorial page, for example, calls the protesters "a collection of ne'er-do-wells raging against Wall Street, or something." We too find it hard to get especially worked up over a series of small demonstrations in a handful of cities, including Los Angeles, involving mostly disaffected people who have trouble expressing what it is they're against. But isn't that how the Tea Party started?

The political left has been searching for the past couple of years to find an answer to the Tea Party. Some hoped last year's rally in Washington led by TV comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, a response to right-wing rallies attended by such conservative media celebrities as Glenn Beck, would spark a national movement. That didn't happen. Now they're pinning their hopes on Occupy Wall Street, which in many ways is a mirror image of the Tea Party.

Both groups are motivated by frustration over the rotten economy and are vague about causes and solutions, though if their positions could be summed up in a one-line manifesto, it might be: The Tea Party, dominated by elderly conservatives, blames government overspending and overreach for our economic problems and would therefore like to cut federal spending. Occupy Wall Street, dominated by young liberals, blames corporate greed and would therefore like to tax the rich and decrease corporate political power.

It is, of course, far too early to suggest that Occupy Wall Street represents a resurgence of the left. But we do seem to recall that in its initial days the Tea Party was similarly dismissed by pundits, especially those on the left who preferred to see the protesters as kooks rather than the vanguard of a political shift.

What matters isn't the size of the protest, the attire of the demonstrators, or the misspellings on their signs. It's whether the relatively tiny number of people who can be bothered to show up and march can inspire and energize other like-minded people enough to get them to the polls.

By that measure, the Tea Party has been a phenomenal success. Republican voters turned out in big numbers in the 2010 elections, while the Democratic vote was depressed, leading to the GOP takeover of the House of Representatives.

A Gallup poll last week found Democratic enthusiasm for voting in 2012 is at its lowest level in a decade, trailing Republicans' net enthusiasm by 27 percent.

No one can say whether Occupy Wall Street will change that. But it would be a mistake to write off the movement before it gets started.

I never dismiss desparate socialist agitators, union thugs,revoltionaries,anti-semites and anarchists.....

Every time you guys get your collective shit together, a few million people are murdered in the name of "progress"....

I know exacty how dangerous you can be when you are in a mob...

"THE JEWS CONTOL WALL STREET"!

"NO IT:S THE WHITE ANGLOSAXON"!

"I love it when the libtard calls the anti-semite an immigrant"

Why aren't you out "Occupying Toledo"?

MikeyA

Because like most rusted-out cities, Toledo is already occupied by leftist elements, but not the money. Lefties are being squeezed out from wealth, and they are trying more and more to get it.

Even the leftists who squeezed themselves out the cities to become suburb dwellers, still pretty much rely on the cities for income. Having participated in hollowing out that pumpkin, they still expect to get a slice of that holiday pie. But nothing's left, or left behind for lefties at any rate. If all you have left is a carved-out holiday pumpkin, stop complaining about your grumbling stomach and enjoy the scary look and the candlelight, since that's all you've prepared for the future.

some of you commies promise to hang limp when the cops drag you off.

NYPD give fair warning to protestors that they will be arrested. The signs they carry say we are the 99%, but even if say there were 10,000 of them there it would still only be .125% of the population on NYC. And where are the African-American protestors in this group? This looks a lot like a Tea Party rally, all white.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

Cut it out mom, all of my comrades are looking.

Statements made are the opinion of the writer who is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and are generally permitted.

Let's take a look at what wolfman has had to say comparing the Tea Party to Loiter on Wall Street.

"While the Tea Party wallow in their corporate hijacked movement the masses are gathering in rage against the Wall Street oligarchy."

"This is an organic movement. I think the problem with the Tea Party is they allowed themselves to be associate with large media conglomerates in both cable and radio."

"So ingrained is the mainstream hate mongers that this movement is already under attack by those that have to result in partisan nitpicking."

Yep, nothing screams grassroots like the AFL-CIO, CWA and UAW. Unforutnately the only kind of organic movement you get when the likes of Trumka get involved is the kind that generates itself after that first cup of coffee in the morning.

That and the fact the groups protesting are the same groups who've used their power to support bad government after government in Toledo for the past 40 years. If anything, these guys need to protest themselves.

Political Championship Wrestling- putting politics in proper perspective by presenting it as pro wrestling.

Coming in January, a political satire about the sorry state of American Politics- Jesusland vs. Progressiveville.

Why don't you protest the next water-sewer rate increase Mayor Bell is planning for us saps who still are stuck living in Toledo? We just got hit with a huge rate hike in April, and now the city wants to shove another one down our throat. That would be a smart thing to do. Protesting against Wall Street here in Toledo is stupid and won't have any affect on Wall Street. By the way, you protesters, Wall Street is in New York, in case you didn't know. It's not here in Toledo.
