This is why reform is needed
http://www.toledoblade.com/article/20100324/OPINION03/100329859
Because of my teenage daughter Cassandra’s epilepsy and Asperger’s syndrome, every insurance company rejected her for coverage because of pre-existing conditions — a denial that health reform would make illegal (“Health reform approved,” March 22).

To pay for her medical care, our family had to make tough decisions. We sold our home and put tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt on each of our credit cards trying to take care of our little girl. While we continue to try to lower those debts, we face certain foreclosure and bankruptcy.

While Congress deliberated on this important issue, families such as mine have continued to struggle under the weight of medical costs and pray that they stay safe and healthy. Please don’t misunderstand what we are asking our elected officials to do. We don’t want a handout. We just want a fair playing field.

I am proud of Ohio Democrats Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Marcy Kaptur, who stood on the side of Ohioans and the American people in support of health reform. Republican Sen. George Voinovich and his colleagues must stop playing politics.

I truly am sorry for Ms. Wilson. Truly. It is a tragic story.
But Ms. Wilson is one person. While healthcare has been working fine for the majority of Americans, it does need some tweaks, but creating a bill that caters to the minority of Americans is downright stupid.

And I can almost guarantee that, under the Obama plan, she would have had the option to abort her baby but coverage for the birth defects described will not be covered.

After all, Obama wouldn't even cover his own Grandmothers hip replacement.

"April 29 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said his grandmother’s hip-replacement surgery during the final weeks of her life made him wonder whether expensive procedures for the terminally ill reflect a “sustainable model” for health care.

The president’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, had a hip replaced after she was diagnosed with cancer, Obama said in an interview with the New York Times magazine that was published today. Dunham, who lived in Honolulu, died at the age of 86 on Nov. 2, 2008, two days before her grandson’s election victory.

“I don’t know how much that hip replacement cost,” Obama said in the interview. “I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement just because she’s my grandmother.”

Obama said “you just get into some very difficult moral issues” when considering whether “to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill.

“That’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues,” he said in the April 14 interview. “The chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health- care bill out here.” "

Read it again. . “The chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health- care bill out here.”

Now tell me that Ms. Wilsons problems with her chronically ill daughter will be covered.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

I'm sorry also for this situation and it appears Obama's promises for them may not be as forthcoming as what he said (see below). Also, LCBM brings up an excellent point: ""And I can almost guarantee that, under the Obama plan, she would have had the option to abort her baby but coverage for the birth defects described will not be covered.""

YIKES!! That would be an even worse situation IMO..sounds like something out of Communist China. Abort your 'handicapped' baby or we won't pay for anything if you decide to give birth.

This yahoo story is out today and makes me wonder how sincere AND how deceptive Obama really is or isn't(?):

Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.

Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday.

Full protection for children would not come until 2014, said Kate Cyrul, a spokeswoman for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, another panel that authored the legislation. That's the same year when insurance companies could no longer deny coverage to any person on account of health problems.

Obama's public statements have conveyed the impression that the new protections for kids were more sweeping and straightforward.

And give him a lewinski?

You MUST have heard Rep Louise Slaughters impassioned speech about the woman who was forced to wear her dead sisters dentures because the woman had no healthcare insurance?
Just in case you did not hear about it, here is her speech.

The problem with Louise Slaughters speech? THE "HEALTHCARE BILL" DOES NOT COVER DENTAL, PROSTHETICS ETC. So that poor woman who has to wear her dead sisters dentures WILL STILL have to wear her dead sisters dentures. Did anyone in mainstream media ASK Rep Slaughter about this? Nope. Did any Democrats point out the truth to America? NOPE. Mainstream Media just played the clip to the gullible masses

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

It's a story that is too difficult to believe. Of course, there was no fact-checking on it by the Lamestream (Mainstream) media.

I've been staying out of this brouhaha deliberately - until now. I'm sorry about Wilson's teenage daughter, but her daughter's health care is not my responsibility. I'm not the one who decided to have children, nor am I the one who is tens of thousands of dollars in debt. I don't blame the insurance companies for not insuring Cassandra Wilson due to her pre-existing condition. She's a dead loss, and I wouldn't insure her either.

I hope that the Wilson story has been vetted, as I'm reminded of Al Sharpton and Tawana Brawley. Whether it's true or not, as LibsCanBlowMe pointed out this is one story among hundreds - not millions. I think that it's common knowledge that it's wrong to radically change an entire system due to a handful of anecdotal incidents.

Our system of health insurance and health care needs to be changed, but thanks to The Anointed One and his army of Moonbats we, the mere civilians, now have a system that is worse instead of better. Case in point (above) appears in Louise Slaughter's speech about shared dentures.

Found this to be about right...

Democrats: "We need health care reform"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! Give us a majority and we'll do it better"
Democrats: "Done, you have majority of both houses"

12 years later, health care is irrefutably worse in every respect for every single person in the United States

Democrats: "We need health care reform"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! Americans are tired of partisan politics!"
Democrats: "OK, let's compromise"
Republicans: "OK, get rid of half your ideas"
Democrats: "Done"
Republicans: "Too liberal, get rid of half your ideas"
Democrats: "Done"
Republicans: "Too liberal, get rid of half your ideas"
Democrats: "Done"
Republicans: "Too liberal, get rid of half your ideas"
Democrats: "Done"
Republicans: "Too liberal, get rid of half your ideas"
Democrats: "Done. Time to end debate"
Republicans: "Too liberal, we need more debate, we will filibuster to prevent you from voting"
Democrats: "OK, we'll vote--sorry guys, debate is ended. It's time to vote on the bill"
Republicans: "Too liberal, we vote no"
Democrats: "OK, it passed anyway--sorry guys."

One month later

Republicans: "Wait--wait, OK, we have less of a minority now so we can filibuster forever."
Democrats: "Sorry, the bill already passed, we need it to pass the House now"
Republicans: "But we have enough to filibuster"
Democrats: "Sorry, the bill already passed, we need it to pass the House now"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! You haven't listened to our ideas! You've shut us out of this whole process!"
Democrats: "Sorry, show us your proposal"
Republicans: "Smaller government"
Democrats: "That's not very specific"
Republicans: "OK, here's our detailed proposal--It's our common-sense ideas we spent 12 years not enacting"
Democrats: "OK, we'll add a bunch more of your ideas"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! You included all these back-room deals"
Democrats: "OK, we'll get rid of the back-room deals"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! You're using obscure procedural tricks to eliminate the back-room deals!"
Democrats: "No, we're using reconciliation, which both parties have used dozens of times for much larger bills"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! You're pressuring Congressmen to vote for your bill! Scandal!"
Democrats: "It's called 'whipping', it's been done since 1789"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! Can't you see the American people don't want this?"
Democrats: "This bill is mildly unpopular (40-50%), doing nothing (your proposal) is extraordinarily unpopular (4-6%)"
Republicans: "We need to start over! We need to start over!"
Democrats: "We should really consider voting--"
Republicans: "Liberal fascists! Start over! Clean slate! Common-sense! America!"

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a

Great post..sadly true tho.

Very true it's a trojan horse, can't wait to see what atrocities against the American people emerge from that trojan horse...Us plebes have to have ObamaDeathCare, the ruling elite and even their aides exempted themselves. Hmmmmm. Just wait until the details of 'why' come out. Can't wait to ask Karptur about that. Thought she was just one of the fighting, working class LOL!....she's a millionaire along with her brother and most of her aides (or VERY close to it). Nothing wrong with millionaires BUT---Trying to figure out how someone who goes in middle class, becomes a millionaire on that salary?? Thats the point.

The dems are starting to show their true colors. This video reveals the real reason Baucus voted for health care, redistribution. He is apparently a communist!

Health care was just a trojan horse...the goal has always been control and redistribution of wealth...
