Taylor KIA and The Appliance Center of Maumee team up to advertise on Local Radio

Recently listening to 105 FM Toledo radio I caught 3 hours on a Saturday of Taylor KIA and The Appliance Center of Maumee on a mutual promotion together. Immediately I thought of all the people I know who buy from the Appliance Center. Most of these people look to buy local and many are union auto workers who could easily buy from the big box Best Buy.So why is the Appliance Center of Maumee promoting foreign KIA cars that employ minimal people in Toledo? Does the owner know loyalty starts at home? Well I called the Appliance Center of Maumee and talked with the manager as the owner was never available. I told this manager that what I have to say should be taken as constructive criticism. I told him of all the people I know that patronize his store. Most are connected to the auto industry here in Toledo. I told him that the union workers of within ear shot of the radio station are ALL thinking the same thing as I. Why would you support a Korean car company when much of your customer base is the domestic automakers? Why not support Ballas Buick or Brondes Ford? That was a week ago and now I found out that I'm not the only one that has called to complained to the Appliance Center of Maumee.

Maybe what the owners of The Appliance Center and Taylor KIA both know is that it takes promotion to make a business successful. Perhaps they both realize that what you refer to as minimal jobs are hard working Toledoans with families and bills to pay. Perhaps they both realize that although you claim to know what ALL the auto workers are thinking, that instead you are just one bitter voice. Maybe they both realize that with recent expansions and the added cost of property tax on thier businesses they need to sell more product and that promotion is the way to do it. And who knows, maybe since they actually own the businesses in question they know a lot more about how to run them than you do Wolfmeister.

Could you post a link to the page on the UAW website where I can report my UAW member neighbor? I caught him and his wife shopping at the McCord Road Wal-Mart last month.

I would say that the majority of UAW members understand value. Heck, ask Pete Gerken! I drive a Jeep, have bought from Appliance Center, and can be found regularly at The Andersons. But like most UAW members, I won't overpay for those products. The 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe (parent of Kia) that my mother drives has been more reliable than my Wrangler Unlimited. Sorry.

I wonder if Pete Gerken at least bought from a local dealer. I would suspect that he went to Detroit to avoid being seen at the local Acura dealer. I would say that buying from a local retailer is more important than buying union. Taylor Auto and Appliance Center have probably created more jobs in Toledo in the past few years than the UAW....

are all the products sold at Appliance Center american made, or do they offer brands like Sony & Panasonic?

These are local businesses. Support them. The people who work there live in the Toledo area. You are all being small minded. If these people can't make a living here, they move out and take there money elsewhere. Tax base declines again. Do you all want to pay more taxes? I guess you do.

Fred's characterization of the one bitter voice is among many at WSPD. Everyday the Nattering Nabobs of Negativity spew their poison of upheaval. The Toledo Blade says it well, "Third-term Carty also had to deal with the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, which emptied city coffers and led to the painful experience of a serious recall attempt instigated by a group of bitter businessmen, an effort that was rejected by the Ohio Supreme Court." The informed local speak of the unhealthy alliance of "bitter businessmen" and the "Preachers-of-Doom" WSPD. Daily a berating of working Americans as overpaid and undeserving of a living wage existence. Free Markets! Limited government! The bombastic Der Brian speaks, never revealing to his low information audience these same foolish ideals gave us our current crisis. Will the day come of the German Kristallnacht, the night of breaking glass, where the angered bitter listeners attack Toledo? I hope not!
The Appliance Center of Maumee does not support the men and women of Northwest Ohio they support/promote the working men and women of Korea with investment dollars that could well be spent here in the Toledo Area. They, Taylor and The Appliance Center, fuel the short term thinking that is ruining the American dream. Be a good American, Country First, Buy American, Buy Union Made!

what if one wants to buy a TV? are there any union made American TV companies left? what about a microwave? Are american companies even making these things in america anymore? and are there any local companies employing local people to sell them?

My favorite Wolfmeister delusion-"The Appliance Center of Maumee does not support the men and women of Northwest Ohio" . What he fails to realize is that the people employed by both the Appliance Center and Taylor KIA will benefit from increased business due to this promotion. The radio station involved will continue to employ salespeople and other employees because of increased revenue. And the money saved by the hard working men and women who took advantage of the sale will be either spent elsewhere in Northwest Ohio or put into savings. Looks like a win win.

Between the Appliance Center and Taylor KIA how many employees are directly and indirectly employed with these two small businesses? What maybe 100 people. But the Koreans employ probably 1000 from the Taylor KIA operation and the all the Chinese stuff the Appliance Center sells another 1000. Now if the Appliance Center worked with Brondes Ford or Ballas Buick or even Taylor Cadillac they would support directly the 60 thousand auto workers active and retired in the Northwest Ohio Region. I realize much of what this area suffers from are the failed trade policies and unbridled markets from Washington/Wall Street that encourage business to support the foreign firms rather than American workers (Main Street). I expect Fred since your wife is a math teacher that you at least can do math. I know that Der Brian is challenged in this area but the workers of this area do hold out hope that Washington and Clear Channel will finally do the math and do right by the American people especially Toledo. Of course this is the opinion of the writer and I do not represent the UAW, its workers or anyone else just the observations of a concerned citizen.

Wolfmeister, my wife has nothing to do with this and I'd appreciate you leaving her out of it. Apparently you have decided that it's only 100 people affected by Taylor and AC. And you've further decided that those 100 don't matter. Now my suggestion is that you start an appliance store of your own, or a car dealership. That way you can advertise, promote, and work with whomever you would like. From what I've seen of your posts you are retired?, so you will have plenty of time and dollars to invest in your new venture. Let me know how all your business acumen plays out in the real world. On paper you'll be a huge success, but then again on paper the Lions should be able to beat any team on any given Sunday.

I'm asking Fred how many employees are employed at Taylor and AC? I have concerns for their employees. Do they have health care, a decent retirement program? Well the company I worked for was the dream of the Middle Class Fred. The UAW built the now-a-day Middleclass and you're seeing the destruction of this group that affects all workers including you Fred and it's now spilling over to our public sector with talk of cuts to retirement benefits. So I bring this to the attention of Taylor and AC do they want a general populous that can afford little a sort of Oliver Twist existence with, maybe, the renaming of Toledo as Pottersville as in Its a Wonderful Life? i hope Mayor Bell realizes this, as he garners support from the "Bitter Businesses" of Northwest Ohio. I know the Appliance Center will listen to these concerns of callers to his establishment. Appliance Center and Taylor Cadillac have been good responsible businesses in the past and I hope they support Toledo area workers in the future.
