Glenn Beck's Operation
If only the ailing Glenn Beck, 16 months ago, had received the health care he's raving about today.

Is Glenn Beck the future of television?
by John W. Whitehead
http://www.easttexasreview.com/newspaper.htm?ArticleID=692
Welcome to the “fear chamber” or “doom room,” home to Fox News Channel’s political commentator and television news host, Glenn Beck.
Beck has become a media phenomenon. The radio DJ-turned-television host has attracted a remarkable following, resulting in a popular radio show, three New York Times best-selling books and a television program that has made him the object of scorn and praise alike.
No scripts or teleprompters seem to be necessary in the “doom room.” Beck’s off-the-cuff, extemporaneous and emotive style have rocketed his 5 pm, EST, television news show on the Fox News Channel to the third-most-watched cable news show running over all.
If the medium of television has the unique ability to capture viewers’ attention, then for better or worse, Glenn Beck has mastered the medium. And as the ratings make clear, audiences find his show to be compelling, entertaining and engaging.
What exactly makes Glenn Beck’s show so appealing to his fans? (MORE) http://www.easttexasreview.com/newspaper.htm?ArticleID=692

Becks 2 am ratings are better than MSNBC primetime...

LMAO...oh the horror...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Remember when Beck was on the fear mongering Republican Karl Rove Machine CNN?

MikeyA

Beck is still a shock jock. He's the political equivalent of prime-time reality shows. Dumbed-down for the masses. But there's a market for that kind of swill. Just like there's a market for shitty. junk food.

Pink Slip

BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And yet the fact remains he's kickin butt in the ratings...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Zeitgeist is right : Its all about the ratings whether it a Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, MSNBC, or a WSPD. They can spew their double talk propaganda day in and day out but in the end ratings =payday and all the political crap comes second to the corporation making a profit. Who cares if it be the public air waves they have no responsibility to us. I f you review the first three posts of this blog you will see the double speak that is the norm in today's news entertainment venue.

Oh..but ofcorse when the ratings were higher for uberman...that showed how enlighted the viewers were...

Now?

Beck's high ratings means the viewers are stupid...

The liberal world is so simple....so clear....

Appearantly...world without off buttons or station tuners....

The first two *cough* "articles...are from COMEDY NETWORK...the third is some blog...who along with beck...mentions comedy network "anchors" steward and colbert....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

MTV’s Jackass had great rating too, doesn’t mean it wasn’t 60 minutes of mindless morons doing do dumb sh!t.

I just wish someone would show me where Glen Beck was wrong on Van Jones and others in the White House about being Communists. Where was he wrong about Acorn?
I've watched the other news channels to see if they would dispute his findings and all they seem to be able to do is laugh and poke fun at Glen. They have no legitimate argument to prove him wrong.

Real news channels don't spend time disputing Art Bell either... there is no difference between the two.

Mao lover Dunn is quitting too...

Commies run in packs.

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

SherryET, big fan of Joe McCarthy too I suppose?

Pink Slip

The name Alger Hiss ring a bell?

The venona papers?

The pumpkin papers?

House Un-American Activities Committee?

McCarthy was right except for one thing...the communists didnt go away .......they got jobs at the whitehouse...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

McCarthy did more damage to our country than the CPUSA

Pink Slip

Liberal myth.

And the hillarious part is...you cant even bring yourself to use the word communist...you used CPUSA instead...

.

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Zoidberg, you are a communist. That's why like like to red-bait. Like Hitler was said to be part Jewish, and went after the Jews. I'm not saying you are like Hitler, but then you've never denied it either...

Pink Slip

Godwin smiles....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

I am a big fan of media being the watch dogs of our government, something that a lot of them aren't doing these days.

Let me ask a straight forward question which requires a YES or NO answer.
Is it OK with you that self-proclaimed communists are key players in this or any administration?

You dont really expect a straight answer I hope....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

No, but I thought I'd try it just for the halibut.

I'm sorry SherryET. I forgot that some conservatives can only think in absolutes. Helps them get through the day without thinking too hard. You want a YES or NO answer. So here ya go:

YES.

Pink Slip

Thanks for the honest answer, even with the insult.
It helps me to know where you're coming from.

i allready know where "he's coming from"....a little red book published in Manchuria...

"what's wrong with socialism"? will be next or something along those lines....

He allready went for the "we are allready commies" canard....

Most likely ask if you support "socialist" programs like Social security, medicare...etc....

Or it's Bush's fault....etc...

Same stuff...over and over....

At at least you got him to come out as a communist supporter......but it's not like it was a secret....

His statment does confirm two things....first...he understands that there are indeed communists in the whitehouse...second...he's ok with it...

ollie ollie oxen free!

And people wonder why liberals hate McCarthy so much....(he wasnt even on the un-american activities committies)......it's not because of some moral highground.....it's because he outed them....

Occams razor....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

What our country practices now is "corporate communism". We are already a communist country, run by multinational corporations. They own everything, including our government and we are nothing but economic slaves.

Pink Slip

Pink - if you are being serious, I think we agree.

I call it corporatism, and it's a thought I've been kicking around. We don't have capitalism - if we ever did.

What cemented this thought for me is when my employer had a meeting for employees with the corporate types from headquarters giving us the heads up. They actully bragged about helping to write 20 billion of the stimulus bill for health info technology and expressed possibilities of hiring some more lobbyists.

I was disgusted as they went on to say they wouldn't take a position on helathcare (although they recently admitted either way will help the company).

When i expressed my disgust to my supervisor, he retorted that lobbying this way is the only way to get ahead.

What a shame. I can't wait to quit working for the people who are participating in this sick corporatist conspiracy.

In reality, they don't care about capitalism. The only time they like capitalism is when it means more profit.

I'm a capitalist through and through, but those that use the government to advance their business then hide behind the capitalist shield are superiorly disgusting.

There is no such thing as "too big to fail".

Without failure there is no way to learn from our mistakes. By bailing out the corporations and banks they have doomed this to repeat. We should have let them fail, licked our wounds and learned the lesson. We did none of them. We weren't in a depression but we did create a double dip recession and the second part will be worse than the first.

MikeyA

Great example Thomas. I'm glad we can agree on this. My thoughts on the "left" and the "right" are this:

The "left" feels that corporate power has grown to the point where they control our government. The "right" feels that government power has grown to the point where they control corporations (through bailouts, etc). In my opinion, corporate power and government power grow in tandem--sometimes complicitly through the revolving door (public official-turned lobbyist-turned CEO-turned public official), and sometimes in spite of each other (regulations).

Pink Slip

The "right" feels that government power has grown to the point where they control corporations. The "left" feels that Corporations control our government by exclusive access and excessive campaign contributions. I think it both an Oligarchy of control over the populous.

He also thanked the daily show writers for watching the show regularly...

Jon Stewart responds to Sean Hannity's apology

Tribune staff report

November 13, 2009
"It wasn't worth it. Nothing's worth sitting through this," sobbed Jon Stewart on Thursday night's episode of the "The Daily Show." A skit showed Stewart suffering through Sean Hannity's three-hour-long talk show while waiting to hear the Fox News host apologize to Stewart and team.

"We screwed up," Hannity said on his program Wednesday, after "The Daily Show" called out Fox for showing footage of a Sept. 12 rally, which drew thousands of conservative activists, during a report about an entirely different rally that had a much smaller attendance.

Stewart fired back Thursday that Hannity's apology was misdirected.

"He didn't have to apologize to me," said Stewart. "It's not like he disappointed me. I expect that stuff."

Why does right wing pundits not us the same effective tactic as Jon Steward, using video clips to disprove what Steward says?

Jon StewarT. With a "T".

You're gonna post somebody's stuff, at least know how to spell their name, genius. But the English in that sentence pretty much speaks for itself.

Mea Culpa: Fox News keeps making conservative-friendly mistakes
Jeff BercoviciJeff Bercovici

Every news organization makes mistakes. But when Fox News makes mistakes, they seem to tilt in a suspiciously consistent direction, favoring Republicans and conservatives over Democrats and liberals.

It happened again Wednesday, when host Gregg Jarrett, introducing a segment on Happening Now, described the "huge crowds" that were turning out to greet Sarah Palin on the promotional tour for her book, Going Rogue. "These are some of the pictures just coming into us," Jarrett said as images of Palin surrounded by throngs of supporters flashed across the screen.

While Palin may indeed be drawing big crowds, it didn't take long for liberal watchdog blogs like Think Progress and Media Matters to point out that the masses Jarrett touted on Happening Now had nothing to do with Palin's book; the footage was from a 2008 campaign rally. Called on the switcheroo, Fox blamed it on a "production error" and issued an on-air apology.

The whole thing might have gone unnoticed had it not been for an eerily similar incident last week in a much more prominent venue, Sean Hannity's primetime show. In this case, the crowd Hannity was hyping was the one that gathered to attend a rally against the healthcare bill on November 5. The footage he showed, however, was from the much larger Sept. 12 "tea parties." In that case, it was The Daily Show that blew the whistle, forcing Hannity to apologize on the following day's show.

And then, of course, there are all the Republican miscreants Fox has mistakenly identified as Democrats, like Mark Sanford and Mark Foley, and the insufficiently doctrinaire Republicans it has ID'd as Democrats, like John McCain and Arlen Specter (who did, in fact, become a Democrat later).

One would like to think that all of these were genuine accidents, not intentional efforts to mislead viewers. Hannity's show is advocacy, not news, but even he could surely find more effective and less backfire-prone ways to influence the debate than outright deception.

Even so, this pattern of ideologically-slanted errors illustrates the danger of packaging a news operation around a core of opinion programming. As long as Fox News is a network by and for conservatives, the people who produce its shows -- even its "objective" shows -- are going to see in the news what they expect to see rather than what it really is.

Statements made are the opinion of the writer who is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and are generally permitted.

LOL

Once again, wolfpup posts from the friggin DAILY show.

Here are some of THEIR OWN tag lines:

*The mistrusted name in news.

*When news breaks, we fix it.

*Third rate reporters giving the first degree the second news happens.

*When News Breaks... It's News to Us.

*More people get their news from the Daily Show with Jon Stewart... Than probably should.

*All the news our sponsors approve of.

*The Daily Show - the only news program with no credibility left to lose.

*As seen on a New York City billboard: The Daily Show: The most trusted name in fake news.

*They wouldn't be called news stories if we didn't make something up.

And Hannity confirmed it only after the Jon Stewart piece the night before that shamed him into admitting to the propaganda piece to influence his audience and government of a false mass movement to stop the health care bill.
This is a prime example of the power of propaganda media and it goes on every day. You can't tell me this was an honest mistake by Hannity.

Zoidberg I've listened to the Rushbo for many a year and if you listen closely to how his program is put together and not his message its all to titillate his ditto head base. Many a time on a slow news day phony callers will set the stage for an afternoon of entertainment at the expense of the naive listener who will then go out and buy the Snapple snake oil.

You watch and listen to a lot of right leaning radio yet you get your news from the daily show and thinkprogress.

My study of journalism has shown both of these as unhealthy towards ones view of the world. It says a lot about you and what it's saying isn't good.

MikeyA

Thanks for the secret info about rush...good thing you are on the job...shew....what would we do without you...
