Add El Cajon, CA (just east of San Diego) to Calabasas and Belmont.
On July 24 El Cajon presented a smoking ordinance lifted verbatim from the Calabasas Municipal Code. Smoking is banned in ALL places, indoors and outdoors, open to the public, including sidewalks, streets and parking lots, plus too much else to list here.
Allowing, aiding or abetting illegal smoking carry the same penalties as smoking. "Private enforcers" (any person acting for the interests of the general public) are given the same powers as the city attorney to bring legal action against an illegal smoker or abettor.
Except that the city attorney must deposit the resulting penalities into the El Cajon general fund: The "private enforcer" gets to keep the money for himself. This is a cash cow for a snitch.
Everyday, this country becomes a little more facist, & is fast losing any resemblance to the great, free country American USED to be.
Everyday, this country becomes a little more facist
Agreed, but not due to the smoking. I'd take you a little more seriously if you railed on about the loss of habeas corpus. You can still smoke. Btw, why isn't anyone complaining that you can't have sex in public?? It's legal to have sex, isn't it?

...is, Is it still legal to smoke candy cigarettes in El Cajon?
;-)
Last I heard, it was not legal to have sex in public. (runs away giggling.......)
Chris - anything that strips freedoms contributes to facism. And the smoking ban did just that - by stripping private business owners of their right to decide for themselves what legal activities they choose to allow. Smoking IS a legal activity, like it or not. I think it's beyond arrogant & self righteous to demand business owners to change their business plan/model, based on the whiney people's whims. You don't LIKE that that private business owner had a smoking section in his restaurant? Then don't GO there. Simple how freedom of choise works (worked).

Don't know about sex in public, but women can walk around topless in Columbus.....
and believe me, no one wants to see the ones who choose to this.......
Anyone remember that night club touring floor show "Tons of Fun"....I think you'll get the idea if you do.
I agree, and its going to get worse before it gets better. We in Toledo may have Fascism on the 22nd floor of government center. I getting the impression someone up there thinks he is the Fuhrer.
the rabid smoker-haters always like to bring up the straw man arguments -compare apples and oranges.
"you can still smoke." Where? Did you even read the above? Probably not.

where the town council has rescinded part of it, due to outcry even from non-smokers who felt it went too far. You can now smoke outside or on the sidewalks EXCEPT DURING SPECIAL EVENTS-whatever the hell that means.
