"AMERICA BLOOMS" - Finkbeiner's latest 'feel good' award.

Finkbeiner's latest ?

A $1000 entry fee has been appropriated thru Department of Parks.

Toledo will be entered in another sham contest. It is called "America Blooms". This time the judges will come to Toledo to see for themselves. Three judges will be escorted around Toledo for three days sometime about July 1.

Since he campaigned on a 'pro-jobs, pro-growth' platform in 2005 and has since failed miserably, should Finkbeiner be spending time entering these crazy contests, or should he be working to bring true Economic Development to the Toledo area ?

Don't we have enough 'awards' ?

Isn't it about time the citizens of Toledo saw some "RESULTS" ?

Your rating: None

... but one you can't wake up from.

be spending his time and our money (both finite resources) pursuing these awards? I mean what else is he supposed to be doing in one of America's cities with the fastest exodus on record?

I suppose you naysayer negative types want to see him using that time and those resources to be contacting businesses that have relocated to other areas to find out why they left and how it could be changed for businesses here in Toledo to make it more appealing for them to stay? Hunh? You'd want the Mayor to spend that $1,000.00 advertising in business publications about all the available manufacturing space in Toledo? You would, wouldn't you.

You are so critical of the Mayor - you'd probably want him to have a dialogue with growing regional businesses to see if there was any prospect for Toledo in their plans too, wouldn't ya.

Well, I think that awards will provide more jobs and more home owners in Toledo than any employers would. So there....

I did some research on the real estate of Toledo and Ottawa Hills today...and Carty really gets some facinating results

It will make everyone sick..just sick

Blooming Idiot!

That's a crack about the flower planting, right? ;-)

yeah, yeah, that's it...about the flowers... ;-)

Toledo is in the competition.

I thought this was an April fools day joke.

But I never lie.

This was hot off the presses, within the hour.

Besides, today is not April Fool's Day.

Now, what shade of lipstick looks best on this pig?

there is a story about this on the Toledo view under the breaking view page. There is also a poll there to vote.

Breaking views my ass. I posted it at 2:30 this afternoon.

This amateur reporter got his story from my post on an internet site. Some reporting. He even uses most of my words in his story and does not give me credit.

WOW ! Getting your lead story off the blogs from someone else.

This paper will fail in NO time.

Give me a break... looking at your post and the story on the breaking news...it seems that they didn't get any info. from you.

In fact, there's is more accurate, as they have more information about the company that sponsors this award.

Give me a break Mahico...

I give you credit for being the smartest, most intelligent person on this blog site...perhaps you should go work for Carty.....

Planting flowers on the Greenbelt Pkwy wearing a blue jump suit with a sign labeled, "Toledo Pride" on the back of you.

You ARE stalking me !

How much is da 'bish paying you to say all those good-sharin' things about his hopeless rag ?

there is more than just one person involved in the Toledo View. There is an entire staff of people. You can see that by reading the "about us" page on the Toledo View website.

How much are you being paid to spit venom on every blog thread? Oh I forgot...no one will hire you anyway, so you have alot of time on your hands....

No job, no woman, no friends....that means you have alot of time on your hands for other things.......

isn't it ?

The 'about us' page merely defines who is clogging the blogs with false praise for a worthless rag.

Uhhhh...that would include YOU.
And nick hartingdon, and the 'bish, etc., etc.

No man, thinks she has a job, and fairweather friends...sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh !

STOP STALKING PEOPLE ! GET A LIFE !

I guess I don't understand why this business of planting flowers and going for best city awards brings out so much animosity. Sure, the city is having a hard time and maybe a lot of the fault is the current administration's, but still... trying to beautify the city and get a few awards when it costs just a few bucks surely can't be all that bad.

category !

I think it is more frustration, than animosity.
People want jobs, want better city services, want roads fixed, want sewers fixed, want better response and a clear vision of tomorrow and not flower planters in front of a mall and empty stores, which we have a lot of, empty stores and homes.

It's not that I am opposed to flowers, planters, pools, parks, nature trails, bike paths, and all the other stuff that makes a city comfortable, entertaining and pleasing to the eye, it's that it's cart before the horse. If you build on sand it will all wash away. (The sand being a crumbling city infrastructure and lack of a progressive economy.)

Anyone that has ever seen my home(s) knows that I believe in the creature comforts of life with lots of aesthetic beauty. The grounds plan for this house included tons of landscaping and fluff that over years, would become just amazing, but the house comes first. If where you live is not stable and sound, the beatification of the grounds would be pointless. Some will argue that by sprucing it up some we could draw interest in the Toledo area, however, not when all ya have to do is take a 2nd look or scratch the surface and reveal the truth that there's rot in the core and that is too expensive.

... that it was putting the Carty before the horse.

But then I remembered where the horse's ass was.

besides the entry fee you know this will cost more. Someone will need to pick them up and drive them around. They will probably get complimentary gifts and lunches. You know Carty will want to throw more money away planting items for the judges to see.

Money spent for little to no reward = frustration and contempt

"Floral Displays
Environmental Awareness
Landscaped Areas
Tidiness
Urban Forestry
Heritage Preservation
Turf and Groundcovers
Community Involvement"

Lemme guess, the Mayor who claims that he lives near the city center, will be spending time at the Metro Parks, the Central Ave. flower planters, and Southwyck area flower planters, and not the areas that do not have what it takes to reviewed by the judges.

it would be different if the economy was doing better and people we moving back to toledo, but that is not the case. it just amazes me how carty puts flowers above fixing the problems of the city.

Flowers and landscape are the easier, softer things to do as mayor.

Because of his personality defects and egocentricity he is unable to do the more difficult job of Economic Development.

That would require taking advice and listening to other people's opinions. And getting along with other people.

He is a born know-it-all that, in reality, doesn't know shit.

And is too full of himself to admit it.

He thinks it is fixing things

Me thinks it is window dressing.
Houses in my neighborhood are being peeled like banana's for the aluminum siding.
Some have been broken into and being stripped from the inside also.
City notified, who hopefully notify the homeowner, if they even care anymore, the homeowner that is.

If anyone is confused, it is because Carty views the world through different color glasses. Fresh vomit is Carty's color of choice.

the driver of the bus, who happens to be sympathetic to the community's needs, would take a bit of a detour and show the judges the "real" community.

Hey, I'm all for trying to win the blooming award. Carty once again is showing us the way. Personally, as soon as it finally warms up, I'm going to plant a shitload of zinnia seeds. If you see a man dashing across your yard, flinging seeds to and fro, that's just me, Donny Zinniaseed, helping us win another award. If only zinnias would smell as sweet as a rose. Or taste as good as apples.

like a competent Economic Development Director should. (read - Finkbeiner)

El Ma,
You do understand attempts at humor, a bit of satire, a little irony, don't you? Maybe you don't. I picture you at your job with a never-ending grimace on your face and a permanently pissed-off disposition. That's not good for co-workers. Lighten up, man. Smell the flowers. Carty's flowers!

but this case is an extreme exception.

I worked for a full year to get this fraud of a mayor elected to office and feel extremely let down by his antics. For my hard work at getting Finkbeiner elected - I apologize to the citizens of Toledo.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

But I got to know Finkbeiner up close for what he really is - An incompetent fraud. I saw him in action on the steering committee and know what a bully he is - because he can not do anything by himself. He barks at other people to do his work for him. Why do you think he has a Chief of Staff and two Assistant Chiefs of Staff ?

In 2005, I fell for the 'new Carty' hook, line, and sinker. I was naive. I thought he was the leadership that we needed in Toledo.  I spent $10,000 of my own money to keep myself financially afloat and incurred many unreimbursed campaign expenses to get this Fake elected. So maybe the disappointment is a little (lot ?) more personal to me. Through my dry wit and negative remarks I attempt to make observations and educate the Toledo citizenery of what a fraud that Finkbeiner really is.

Every public employee knows that their PERS retirement check is based on the average of their best three years of public service.

During his second term Finkbeiner arranged to have the mayor's salary raised to $137,000 per year. A salary that he could not collect while he was currently in office.

So during the next 4 years while he watched the new mayor collect that salary, he plotted his return to the mayor's office. To do that, he would help overthrow the Lucas County Democratic Party. With the promise of a pro-job, pro-business agenda, he secured the backing of the labor unions in Toledo. He had his campaign meetings at the Teamster's Hall for one year and with the help of the labor unions of Toledo convinced the Toledo voters that he was a new man at the old address.

He now collects that same $137,000 per year that he helped engineer as the new salary for mayor, and at the end of this year will have three years at that rate.

His best three years X .67 = yearly retirement.

He will retire at the approximate rate of $91,790 per year, for the rest of his life.

So the sting of his fraud that he perpetrated upon the Toledo voters will go on long after he is voted out of office.

CRAZY CARTY ?

CRAZY like a FOX.  That is all he is about.  Himself.

Not Toledo, not his well-orchestrated appearance of passion for Toledo.

He has you all fooled.

He engineered this hoax for HIS OWN benefit.  No other.

Finkbeiner is all about Finkbeiner.

... when you're down doin' the mea-culpa thing, EM, but during your Czarty Year, where did you miss the fact that the guy was clinically crazy and should have been kept away from sharp objects (and spouses), much less an elected office?

I've asked this question in various permutations of other people, and I've yet to get a satisfactory answer.

Czarty's pre-mayoral actions should have sent most people backing away slowly. He was clearly nuts. The people who worked under him in some appointed position have expressed similar opinions.

Then as mayor, his ego-first and sanity-second behavior should have flushed away all remaining vestiges of support.

But his support seemed to only GROW. It's maddening. Where's the explanation for that?

Of course, all we need to do is look north, to Kilpatrick, who is literally the worst mayor in America. Yet his support base is huge. And let's not talk about Marion Barry (imprisoned for drug charges, then was elected mayor of DC) ... there's another example of a man completely unfit for office who floated right in.

P.S. Marion Barry's wiki page includes:

«After being released from prison, Barry was successful in his 1992 bid for a city council seat, running under the slogan "He May Not Be Perfect, But He's Perfect for D.C." In 1994, Barry was elected to his fourth and final term as mayor, serving until January 1999.»

That slogan offers a hint of why such terrible, horrible, awful people get into office. "Perfect For Here." Continual voting for Czarty and Ford and the next slimebag like them is just a statement that Toledoans have a wretched self image that REFUSES to improve itself, and in fact seeks to PUNISH itself.

one day when he pulled up to a luncheon and was his usual 10 minutes late to arrive, he tossed me the keys to his Jeep and asked me to park it for him on the side of the building.

When I jumped in I saw medication bottles on the console that were prescribed to him. I looked them up in my PDR when I got home that day. They were prescribed to control the rants and ravings that he is known for.

Shortly thereafter, we had a face-off at the Teamster Hall. He pulled that 'John Skiadas' type of intimidation shit on me. Poked my chest a couple of times.

In retrospect, I should have popped him in the jaw.

But here is the answer you were looking for - I wanted that job with the city that he promised to all campaign workers.

He dangled jobs like they were carrots. So I overlooked his bullshit because I wanted something for me.  But I knew he was clinically crazy by August of 2005.

That, sir, is the answer to the question of why I ever helped this nutjob to become mayor again.

As to why the rest of Toledo voted for him, please re-read your last sentence above and you will have your answer.

when you found out Carty hooked a drunk up with a job driving a city vehicle, huh?

He will retire at the approximate rate of $91,790 per year, for the rest of his life

Not bad for a wife beater who never had a real job in his life!

Toledo is the only entry in the category of 100,000 to 300,000 population;

SO - we're paying a $1000 registration fee (actually I heard it was $1200) to buy ourselves a fucking plaque???

Nice scam these America Blooms people have going for themselves. Seriously, all they need to make a small fortune is set up this stupid awards program, find 10-20 egotistical idiots in city governments, and go to the local trophy shop and have a buncha plaque's made up (and dont forget first, second, third place and honorable mention for each category!!)

Wouldnt take long to be knocking down 6 figures in registration fees. I'll bet there's a couple retired old ladies out there who ARE the America Blooms committee just giggling their wrinkled old asses off...

i was amused when he was asked about this award, instead of talking about WHY we are getting involved, he talked about how great the city's water supply is. he also said in the next 15 - 20 years people are going to come back to the city because of the water. interesting prediction.

In 15 years, Toledo will be in such a degraded condition, and other areas with water problems will have so much population, that even a screamer like Czarty won't be able to stop the summary taking of water from Lake Erie. Czarty assumes there will be a base of political power locally that quite simply WON'T EXIST.

The Rusty Cities won't have the political power they have even now. But no one really accuses Czarty of having a suitable long view of matters.

What is this guy's fascination with flowers?

Or is he tired of kissing the lipstick off of the pig and now moving on to flowers for the dead horse he keeps beating?

to gay folks everywhere..
