Concerns about Swampbubbles being a neutral forum

03/10/09 - updated - When I initially created this page January 2007, I wanted to make sure the site got off on the right foot. The site has become established and is read and commented on by people who like and hate me.

When I was at a candidate seminar at the Ohio State University in 2004, one of the speakers welcomed us and then said we will never be normal again since we ran for office. Since I am no longer normal, some of you may be concerned that I am running the site SwampBubbles. I am creating this page to ease your concerns.

First and foremost, I believe in the integrety of the site and I will not do anything to damage that. The content is controlled by you, whether I agree with it or not. I started posting under the username SwampBubbles for links to stories that carried no opinion. I decided on purpose not to use my real name on those posts now because I don't want people to think this site is about me. I did post under my own account name whenever I insertted my opinion or made a comment. Now that the site is established I am posting 99.9% of the content under my own name.

The time when I use the SwampBubbles account name now is when I go into a post to add more information. Sometimes things happen on a topic or an issue to make it balloons and becomes bigger. To prevent multiple postings on the site, I will combine topics into one post. In the fall of 2008 a new trend developed where a user was posting multiple partisan topics each day prompting some users to create retalitory posts. For a few of the topics, I went in and added both sides to them to prevent this back and forth. Depending on behavior of users on the site will determine how much this will need to be done. This will only be done in extreme circumstances or for topics that grow out of control. There will be a time when we reach a certain mass of posts where none of this will not be necessary, but until that time it will be used when things start to get out of control or there is a topic that is exploding.

There may also need to be some control excersized over topics to be sure that the site stays on the mission. If a bunch of people start posting on research about the mating habits of fruit flies, those topics are eligible for editing. Spam postings will be pulled without any hesitation.

Whether I like you or not, your privacy is assured: I created a privacy policy so you can be assured your information will be kept confidential. When I say your privacy will be protected, it will this means if a friend asks who you are of if you actually said that, I can't provide identifying information including e-mail, names or IP addresses without a legal supeona. Just don't let me find a legal supeona one day regarding you and your comments/behavior, because I will be forced to divulge your information. Excluding that instance, you will be protected whomever you are.

Of course I can only control myself, and not you. Unless you are completely outlandish in your posts or comments, use profanity, post spam, or create a situation where things start to get out of control, they will not be deleted or edited. I do reserve the right to edit foul language and if there is a SwampBubbles specific item, a post to accurately reflect what needs to be known and ALL edits will be noted. Also, some posts will be removed if they are more appropriately posted on ToledoTalk or they are duplicate posts.

So participate, enjoy.
