Tagged:  •    •

Shortly after waking up this morning, we looked from our 2nd floor windows and we could see flmaes shooting 20-30 feet in the air. It was the apartment building on the next block.

It's 8;30 am and the building is still burning. I updated photos on the blog. The light of day shows the total destruction.

Thanks for the photos, Chad.

Here's a link to the google maps:

They are tearing the rest of it down now... more pics in a few mins

The Dept of neighborhoods is tearing it down as the Fire Dept. continues to put out the fire.

Those night shots are really good; thanks for sharing the photos.

I hope that no one was hurt in the fire.

It was a wee bit early for me to be outside at 5am, but that's when it started. As far as anyone knows, at last check, nobody was in the building. If there had been anyone in there, they would have been the one(s) setting the fire and by the way that thing went up, they would never have gotten out. There were a couple of explosions in the 1st 15 mins or so, My guess there must have been an old fuel tank in the basement.

After watching from almost the start, the speed and intensity of the fire was such that the current therory is that there was "help" with the fire. There had to have been an accelerant used as the whole building was engulfed in minutes. It was an 8100 sq ft building, built in 1897.
