Is This the Start of Something sinister?

Lyin' Don's White House is now the house of censorship. News organizations which are too critical of the current administration were barred today (Friday, February 24, 2017)!
John McCain defended a free press in a most articulate way, before today's censorship. This from USA Today: "If you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free -- and many times adversarial — press," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., speaking on NBC's Meet The Press. "And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time — that's how dictators get started."
Citing history, McCain told NBC that "the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press," though he hastened to add: "I'm not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I'm just saying we need to learn the lessons of history." [McCain's statements were made BEFORE news organizations were barred from today's media briefing.]
Officially, the following news organizations were barred: The LA Times, CNN, Politico, the New York Times and the BBC. Time and the Associated Press were not barred, but refused to attend in solidarity with the banned news agencies.
No recent POTUS administration has taken such an extreme action. Are we on the road to dictatorship? You be the judge!

No votes yet

Title edited.

Ahh--impossible to describe how much I love all of the complaining being done by the Obama lovers. Suck-it-up liberals! If you subtract out the presidential votes from New York and California--Trump wins the popular vote by 2 million+. It goes to show that he is supported by the great majority of states. Keep whining.

Name me one POTUS, Democrat or Republican, who banned any major media outlet from a White House briefing in the last 70 years! Just one will do!
Ronald Reagan had a special phone hookup to address the White House Correspondents' Dinner, because he was recovering from a gun shot wound. Lyin' Don will not attend. What is Lyin Don so afraid of?

Oh! And if you "subtract out" the presidential votes from Texas and Alabama, Hillary wins by over 4 1/2 million! Just like a supporter of Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, you pick and choose the statistics you like! Should a voter in any one state have more to say about who becomes POTUS than a voter in any other state? I think not!
This from the Washington Times's website regarding John McCain's stance on the issue of a free -- even adversarial -- media: “I hate the press. I hate you especially,” Mr. McCain joked in an interview with NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd. “But the fact is we need you. We need a free press. We must have it. It’s vital.”
“If you want to preserve — I’m very serious now — if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press,” Mr. McCain said. “And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That’s how dictators get started.”

I guess you just don't like a real Democracy, aka Galt.

If shit like this warms your heart you need to find a woman even if you have to pay for one like
Thump did. Your lonely that is all:)

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

You're not your dumbass

From your post it appears you are the dumb ass. LOL

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

The only thing sinister in this whole mess is Thumps Tax Returns. What is in it that he doesn't want the public to see????????????

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

Beaten dead horse is beaten.

MikeyA

Hi Mikey. Do you stink if you handcuffed Donald Thump, he wouldn't be able to talk?
He can't speak without using his small hands!

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, nominated Philip Bilden to be his Secretary of the Navy. There were news reports that the nomination had problems, and that Bilden might withdraw his name from consideration. Here is what the current Press Secretary tweeted: "Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, said on Twitter that CBS’s sources were'“wrong.'"
“'Just spoke with him and he is 100% commited to being the next SECNAV pending Senate confirm,' Mr. Spicer wrote."

This is SO TYPICAL!! Now, this is NOT the first administration to lie to the media and to the American people. But, it is the first administration to ban news organizations from a White House briefing. As John McCain stated: “I hate the press. I hate you especially,” Mr. McCain joked in an interview with NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd. “But the fact is we need you. We need a free press. We must have it. It’s vital.”
“If you want to preserve — I’m very serious now — if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A FREE AND MANY TIMES ADVERSARIAL PRESS,” [emphasis added] Mr. McCain said. “And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That’s how dictators get started.”

The quote is from Feb 18th. A lot can happen in a week in the world of politics.

Why don't you focus on things that are actual lies?

MikeyA

Lies are lies!

"PLEASE -- Let me be clear. I hope that I'm wrong about Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like! I hope that ALL of his initiatives make America a better place. I hope that they all work for the best. I hope that he is not bigoted in any way. I WANT TO BE WRONG!!

I want what is best for America. But, I do want an America that is just as open to my progeny and their progeny as it has been to me and my contemporaries. I want an America which opens its arms to those seeking a better life, away from terrorism and persecution, just as my grandparents were able to do over 100 years ago. I cannot imagine this happening with the current POTUS, but I WANT TO BE WRONG!!"

Here's a link to an interview with W. Few POTUSes have received more negative media coverage than did W. Read what he thinks about the importance of the media: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2017/02/27/george...
Here are some other pertinent quotes by W on related topics:
* He pointed to Russian President Vladimir Putin: "It's kind of hard to tell others to have an independent free press when we don't have one ourselves."
* "A bedrock of our freedom is the right to worship freely," said Bush, who famously said after the 9/11 attacks that the United States respected the faith of Muslims around the world.
* He gave a rambling answer about whether the ban on seven Muslim-majority countries would make it easier or harder to fight terrorism, saying that the country needed to project strength if the goal is to "defeat ISIS." He concluded, "I am for an immigration policy that is welcoming and upholds the law."

This is not a partisan issue! Prominent Republicans understand basic freedoms and some are willing to take a public position in opposition to the current POTUS.

I bring your attention to a direct quote from Mike K. Azad:

Gagging the press & mocking the media is a deliberate policy intended to undermine its credibility.
• Step 1 for Hitler was to discredit the media.
•Step 2 was to silence scientists and government employees.
Hate crimes against minorities grew to the highest in their country’s history. Clashes between parties became so extensive that
•Step 3 Hitler ended civil liberties giving “law and order” as the cause. Those who opposed Hitler were ridiculed and threatened.
•In Step 4 wealthy supporters purchased media outlets, employing only those faithful to the ruling party.
•Step 5 In his final step Hitler declared that the only way the country could be unified was to restore traditional values. Minorities including gays, the disabled, Jews, Roma, and people of color were considered “inferior” and sent to death camps for slaughter.
We're between Step 2-4.
I was always confused how so many people could go along with Hitler's Final Solution. This is exactly how it happened. In case you are confused or bothered by some people comparing Trump to Hitler, This is why!

Lyin' Don's lying Attorney General.
Here is what Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated when answering a question about contact between the campaign officials of Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, and officials of the Russian government: “I have been called a surrogate a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/03/02/sessions-russian-ambassador-s...
The Justice Department stated that the answer Sessions gave was truthful, because the question was specifically about contacts between Lyin Don's campaign and Russia. They went on to state: "...not about meetings he took as a senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee." I am not a lawyer, and I have never even played one on TV, but how else could these words be interpreted, except as an out-and-out lie? "...I DID NOT HAVE COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE RUSSIANS..." Then Sen. Sessions did NOT say anything about not having communications AS A CAMPAIGN OFFICIAL, rather than as a U.S. Senator. He stated flatly and directly, "...I did not have communications with the Russians..."
Communications are communications are communications. A lie is a lie is a lie. Lyin' Don and his fellow travelers seem to have a tough time with this rather simple, straightforward concept! This begs the question, what else are Lyin' Don and his administration lying about?

and ALL THOSE biting SNL sketches skewering him! http://www.npr.org/2017/03/03/518329705/former-president-bush-says-snl-i...
Bush continued a theme this week of contrasting himself with — and even critiquing — the current president, which he purposefully avoided during Obama's presidency.
Bush said imitations of him by Will Ferrell and others didn't bother him "at all." He said he loves humor and that "the best humor is when you make fun of yourself." Kimmel's reply: "Tell that to the president; he doesn't think so." President Trump has repeatedly dismissed Saturday Night Live's satire of his administration.
Bush laughed.
Bush said Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels once told him he had a writer come up with the word "strategery." Bush said he told Michaels that he had come up with the word. "And he said, 'No you didn't say strategery.' I said, 'I damn sure said strategery.' He said, 'We invented it.' I said, 'Let me ask you this: Did he come up with 'misunderestimate'?"
IMHO, narcissists are desperately lacking in a sense of humor about themselves. W is no narcissist. Guess who is.

"If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed."
"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."
"Great liars are also great magicians."
"The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one."
"All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach."
And, finally: "The victor will never be asked if he told the truth."

Here's how serious the current POTUS Administration is about suffocating any who would dare to challenge their "alternative facts." This was stated by White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus: "'I think it's something that we've looked at. How that gets executed or whether that goes anywhere is a different story,' Priebus said, adding that the media needs to be 'more responsible with how they report news.'” Here's a link to the entire article from Faux News, via the MSN website: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/priebus-says-trump-administration...
For those who do not know this, anyone or any organization which makes public statements which are false, especially knowingly, may be sued for libel right now -- under current law! If one is telling the truth, one need not fear such lawsuits.

The danger of silencing our free press cannot be overstated. Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like has consistently, since declaring his intent to run for POTUS in 2016, attacked the media! Will his administration repeat the censorship of the past? It is clear from the article directly referenced below, that the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 were passed primarily as political tools to silence and/or deport and eliminate the most outspoken critics of the Adams Administration. Did this not then create a deeply foreboding atmosphere, similar to that created by the present Administration?
Here is a link to an article about the Alien and Sedition Acts passed by the Federalist Party which controlled Congress under Federalist POTUS John Adams, who signed these bills into law:
http://www.ushistory.org/us/19e.asp
These acts became a huge (or is that yuge?) issue in Adams's re-election campaign, and vaulted Thomas Jefferson over Adams, and into the Presidency in 1800.

control ALL INFORMATION going to the public. Not only is Sean Spicer being limited in giving information to the media, not only is he, very likely, being moved further from the media and away from his original position of Press Secretary, he has stopped daily, televised press conferences. Now, the White House doesn't even want what they label "gaggles" to be taped neither on video, NOR ON AUDIO!
America, under Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, is becoming a "banana republic." Is every bit of information coming out of the White House soon to be issued in Tweet by Potuzzi!?
Here is a link to an article documenting the moves which appear to be coming, despite protestations from even current Republicans, (quoted in above posts), and despite warnings about how vital a "free press" is to our form of democracy issued by our "Founding Fathers," (also in posts above).
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/steve-bannon-says-sean-spicer-1336110...
This surely seems to be a continuation down the dark road of "something sinister!"
