Awaiting use of a "big stick" on North Korea

Tagged:

As a candidate, Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, talked really, really tough about America's enemies. One of those enemies was, and is, North Korea. In a most untypical fashion, after North Korea tested a medium-range ballistic missile, Lyin' Don stood in silence and let Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, make a strong statement of condemnation of North Korea's provocative act. Lyin' Don then made a very short statement of full support for Japan's position on this issue.
Is Lyin' Don now coming to the realization that Teddy Roosevelt was right? It was Teddy who quoted an African proverb when he said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." So, the POTUS did speak softly this week. I'm awaiting the "big stick." Until this time, it appeared that Lyin' Don was doing the exact OPPOSITE! He talked loudly, and did little or nothing. We'll see.

On a related note, the current King of North Korea, Kim Jong Un [I know. His official title is, " Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea and supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea"], was made more secure on his throne [in his dictatorship] because his elder half-brother Kim Jong Nam was mysteriously assassinated in Malaysia. While both had claims to the throne of North Korea because they were both the sons and grandsons of the Kim dynasty, Kim Jong Nam seemed to have no interest AT ALL in being a national leader. In fact, there is some evidence that Nam even wrote a letter to Un begging that his life be spared. And, a lot is tied to a volcanic mountain along the border of North Korea and China. Here's a very informative article about the assassination of Kim Jong Nam: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/kim-jong-nam-half-brother-kim-jong-un-assass...

The Donald needs to quit tweeting, going to Florida every weekend and getting personal with the press and do his job. Wonder what our right wing conservative friends on this board think what a wonderful job he is doing so far?

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

met a burger he didn't like, who criticized Obama for not being in the White House enough?
Ironic, huh!

Donnahoney -- IMHO...as long as Lyin' Don buys off the conservatives with tax cuts -- even though those cuts will be much greater for the super-rich than they will be for the common conservative/Republican voter -- the conservatives will be falling all over themselves to praise him. Many conservatives claim to be ultra-religious, but most pray only to the holy shrines of money, money, money! They claim to be "patriotic," but they only care about Americans who are the most like themselves. They claim to be outraged by crimes, but they ignore the crimes committed by white supremacists. Most claim to be "pro-life," but they turned the other way when super-rich women flew off to Sweden or Japan for "vacations" and came back a few weeks later sans pregnancies in the pre-Roe v Wade days. In fact, most conservatives embrace xenophobia, segregation, and misogyny!
In short, almost all conservatives simply ADORE Lyin' Don and his messages of intolerance!! We, who are outraged by all this along with his gross incompetence, just have to suck it up and deal with it!

Have you noticed its people I don't like trump that want him to stop tweeting?

I wonder why that is?

MikeyA

hope he keeps tweeting his little heart out! It makes great fodder for all of the comedians. It also indicates that the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, has A LOT of time on his hands, because his job as POTUS is so overwhelming, he chooses to ignore putting in the time to actually do the job to which he was elected. It's really quite sad.
But, as I said above, I'm sucking it up and dealing with the reality of it.

I notice that you use a lot of insults when discussing the President.

Aren't you glad that I stayed above that type of behavior when President Obama was in power?

MikeyA

*Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like disparaged war hero John McCain, by stating, "I like people who weren't captured." Remind me again, Mikey. Where was Lyin Don during the entire Vietnam War?
*Lyin' Don consistently called Marco Rubio "Little Marco." And stated, (like this is SO IMPORTANT when one is running for POTUS),“He sweats more than any young person I’ve ever seen in my life.”
*Lyin' Don consistently called Hillary Clinton "crooked Hillary." He also called her "corrupt Hillary." (BTW -- When are those indictments of Hillary coming?)
*Lyin Don had the nerve to call someone else a liar! Remember his calling Ted Cruz, "Lyin' Ted?"
*Lyin Don called Jeb Bush, "Low energy Jeb."
*Lyin' Don called Bernie Sanders, "Crazy Bernie."
*Lyin' Don called John Kasich, "1 for 38 Kasich."
*Lyin' Don called Elizabeth Warren "Goofy Elizabeth Warren."
*Lyin' Don on Carly Fiorina: "Look at that face!" he cries. "Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!"

Now, Mikey, really, should little me, Mr. Nobody, writing on a local site not disparage this internationally well-known phenomenon who is so mean to others who hold high office, and/or run for POTUS!? Lyin' Don seems to be especially nasty to women who have the temerity to challenge him. Under the term misogynist, are newer dictionaries going to have a picture of The Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, as a prototype?
You know, Mikey, for someone who claims to NOT like Lyin' Don, and who claims to have NOT voted for him, you sure jump to his defense a lot!! Hmmm...

I defend anyone from unfair personal attacks. Ironically it was on this board where I defended President Obama from a then citizen Donald Trump over unfair attacks over a birth certificate.

I do that because I have a deep respect for the office and the people who hold it. Ever notice I referred to President Obama or as just Obama?

Show me a policy of Trump's I've defended? I'm happy to discuss them but most the discussion is centered around things that are not policy like tweets.

MikeyA

I will stop insulting him. When he starts speaking and acting like a mature POTUS, I will treat him with respect. Until then, I will continue to insult the insulter!
All evidence leads to the conclusion that for the rest of his life I will be insulting him! Leopards don't change their spots!

Well I guess I just have more respect for the office than you.

MikeyA

Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like will get my respect as soon as he shows respect to others. Obama earned our respect by the way he leads his life, and by the respect he shows others.

"Well I guess I just have more respect for the office than you."
Too bad Trump doesn't have more respect for the office.

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

You keep wondering Mike. All of Trumps tweeting and press attacks is nothing but a diversion. One simple act would clarify it all :
RELEASE YOUR TAX RETURN!

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

stop doing his impression on SNL!!

Is that why you want him to stop tweeting? Because he didn't release his tax return?

MikeyA

Hi Mikey. I want him to stop tweeting because I'm embarrassed for him. He sounds like a moron most of the time.
BTW, why is he still campaigning at taxpayer expense? Don't he know he won?
Why won't he release his tax return?

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

Well I am embarrassed for you. It's "Doesn't he know that he won?".

He doesn't have to release his tax return. You should move on from that issue.

MikeyA

to be the "grammar police" on this site? If so, look out! Don't type too quickly. Check everything over, Mikey!

I wasn't replying to you.

MikeyA

I choose. Too bad, Mikey. Watch your typing!

Good deflection on that grammar error Spicer, I mean Mikey. I know he "doesn't have to release his tax returns". If he did it would show that he is no where as rich as he claims.
It will also show how much debt he is in, especially his financial ties with the Russians.
There are going to be a lot of people making a ton of a money off Trumps presidency but people like you won't be one of them, Sorry.

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

tweets from Lyin' Don. One of his latest tweets:
"The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!" And the original tweet ending with the word "SICK." [now deleted]
And here is John McCain's response:
"'Such talk,' McCain, R-Ariz., said on NBC News in an interview set to air Sunday, was 'how dictators get started.'" and:
"In other words, a consolidation of power," McCain told "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd from Munich. "When you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press. And I'm not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I'm just saying we need to learn the lessons of history."

No wonder the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, has such a bromance with Vladimir Putin!

Dale, do you think Putin has video of Russian whores giving Trump a golden shower?

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

never met a burger he didn't like turns out to be a real, life "Manchurian Candidate." If so, maybe Vlad the Impaler DOES have such a video!!

Dale, seems to me the old school conservatives were not the ones who got him elected. It was the white, lower middle class citizen who fell for Trumps bullshit and decided to vote all of sudden. You should distinguish between the rich conservative and the want to be rich conservative.

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

conservatives talked as though they would not vote for Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, and a twice-divorced person who was well known to have cheated on his wives and girl friends, [some family values], but when it came time to actually vote, he got their support overwhelmingly. In election cycle after election cycle, Republicans have consistently used the same strategy. They draw attention away from pocketbook issues and focus voters on the three Gs instead. Lyin' Don doubled down on this by adding xenophobia and other types of bigotry to the mix.
What projected him to victory was:
* Lower voter turnout. Republicans have done everything in their power to discourage voting, including running extremely negative campaigns to just turn off casual voters. Most casual voters vote Democratic.
* Women did not support Hillary in large numbers. In fact, Hillary actually LOST the white women's vote 53%-43%. Overall, Hillary's lead over Lyin' Don among all women was almost identical to that of Obama.
* African-Americans did not turn out in large numbers, as they did for Obama. Part of the lower turnout may have been because of the unreasonable barriers to voting erected by Republicans in most of our states.
* Hispanic voters did not turn out in numbers large enough to offset the drop in African-American voters from 2012 to 2016.
* Lyin' Don's appeal to the worst in human nature worked to shift enough traditional, blue collar Democrats into the Republican column.
* Finally, Hillary was just a poor campaigner, and was, quite simply, not likable enough. This could well account for the fact that women did NOT show up in record numbers, nor vote in record percentages, for a female candidate against a male who is on tape stating some of the most misogynistic statements ever recorded!

In short, it was definitely Hillary's election to lose; and she lost it!

Voter turnout as a whole remained virtually unchanged from 2012.

Hillary losing women just demonstrated her lack of appeal.

Not only did Blacks not show but Trump won larger percentages of Blacks and Hispanics than Romney.

MikeyA

The number of white voters increased from 2012!
The percentages of all eligible American voters who actually vote is embarrassingly low compared to other true democracies. While the United States barely breaks over 50% of all of those eligible, Belgium, for example, had a voter participation rate of 87.2%! http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/08/02/u-s-voter-turnout-trails... Congratulations to the Republicans -- voter suppression works!
And, as I pointed out above, " Lyin' Don's appeal to the worst in human nature worked to shift enough traditional, blue collar Democrats into the Republican column."
Really, Mikey! Can you imagine what would have happened if, before either the 2008 or 2012 Election, there had been a recording with Obama stating anything close to what Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, said about grabbing women?
There is one standard for most people, and a totally different one for a super-rich celebrity!

Why are you comparing turnout rates of the US to other countries?

The total turnout remained unchanged from 2012. If you disagree then post a source.

MikeyA

you choose to comment. You missed the part about demonstrably LOWER voter turnout among African-Americans, and HIGHER among white voters. This from the Forbes website, referring to how lower turnout among African-Americans as the main reason why Hillary lost Michigan: "Mote [for Mikey, aka the Grammar Police, should be spelled More. I copied this directly. Glad I spotted the spelling error for the Grammar Police!] than 75,000 Motown Obama voters did not bother to vote for Clinton! They did not become Trump voters – Trump received only 10,000 votes more than Romney did in this county. They simply stayed at home."
This fits precisely into the Republican play book. They want to raise barriers to voting which have a great effect of voter suppression upon minorities than among others. I also agreed that Lyin' Don drew some normally reliable Democratic voters into his camp by appealing to their fears, even though those appeals were enormously exaggerated!

Now, as far as total turnout in the Unites States, as opposed to other countries, I'll post background information, not for you Mikey, because you already know this, but for others who read here. When I was first active in Democratic politics, it was back in the 1960s! (Yes. I know that I'm old.) One of the prime "rules" we learned was that most elections turned on total voter turnout. The greater the voter turnout in any election, the better (overall) the Democrats did. The lower the voter turnout, the better Republicans did. More of the "casual" voters tended to vote for Democratic candidates, while more of the consistent, every time voters voted for Republicans.
It's now 50 years later. This still holds true. As a percentage of eligible voters, the highest voter participation rate in recent elections was in 2008. It is no coincidence that, not only was Obama elected as POTUS in that election, but Democrats won a majority in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate that year. In 2012, there was a drop-off. While Obama won re-election, the Democrats lost the House. In 2014, in off-year elections, with lower voter turnout, the Democrats lost the U.S. Senate as well.
Whether you accept it or not, Mikey, one long-term strategy of the Republican Party is to suppress the total who vote. The fact that the United States ranks so low among Democracies in the percentage of those eligible who actually cast ballots, is one indication of the effectiveness of voter suppression by the Republicans. They are really good at it! According to the Pew Research Center: "By that measure, the U.S. lags most of its peers, landing 31st among the 35 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, most of whose members are highly developed, democratic states."
In more recent years, mostly at the state levels, Republicans have been very effective at targeting minority voters for their voter suppression efforts. And, among the tactics Republicans have employed, have been running extremely negative campaigns at all levels. Republicans have been highly effective using these tactics. I do not foresee a time when they will change, as long as they are successful. If they keep potential voters turned off of the process, suppress voting among minorities, and divert attention away from pocketbook issues and onto the 3 Gs and other emotional issues instead, Republicans will continue to be successful in election campaigns!

BTW -- Still awaiting use of the "Big Stick" against North Korea!

Conservatives didn't elect him. Moderates and white working class did.

MikeyA

they claim to have, they would have refused to vote for Lyin' Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like! He is twice-divorced person who cheated on his wives BEFORE he was legally divorced, and hardly lives with his current trophy wife now! But, being the hypocrites that they are, the conservatives voted for the misogynistic, serial philanderer, both in the Primaries AND in the General Election! (You probably did, too, Mikey, at least in the General Election. You just won't admit it!)
BTW -- Obama is still married to his ONLY wife. There have been ZERO rumors about any infidelity involving either Barack or Michelle. In other words, there's a great reason why Obama is so well respected. He earns respect every day by the way he actually lives his life!!

Sometimes I don't know if Trump is liar, ignorant. or just confused.
He keeps saying "I inherited a mess".
He is wrong. Obama inherited a mess.
Trump inherited a fortune from his daddy.

Hope I didn't offend anyone!

Well put, Donnahoney!!

How many riots occurred in the two years prior to Obama's election?

MikeyA

8 years ago, the "town hall" meetings of mostly Democratic office holders were emotional explosions by Tea Party types. Now, these near-riots are at "town halls"for mostly Republican office holders and the disruptions are mostly among people concerned about losing health care coverage if the ACA is repealed.
BTW-- Hundreds of thousands in America, and millions around the world have participated in overwhelmingly PEACEFUL MASS demonstrations against the man for whom you have a bromance going, Mikey. I'll admit it. Overall, those opposing the current POTUS have been MUCH less violent than were those opposing Obama!

Mikey -- The Republicans have been ranting against the ACA for almost 8 years now. When ARE they going to remove the ACA? What "plan" have they developed to replace the ACA in these past 8 years? While Obama was the POTUS, according to the Forbes website: "Republicans in the House voted to repeal Obamacare or greatly cripple it on 60 some odd occasions."
An all Republican-controlled Congress has been in ofice for almost 2 months, now, and there is a Republican POTUS! When was the vote to repeal the ACA? I seem to have missed that one. Where is the replacement for the ACA? I seem to have missed that announcement. Isn't 8 years enough time to develop an alternative program? (We know that the current Republican leadership CAN produce "alternative facts.")
Oops! I forgot! The ACA (or Obamacare) IS a Republican idea! it is Romneycare! It's based upon the program Romney pushed in Massachusetts when he was Governor there!
Hmmm...

Can't wait for Lyin Don the Michelin Man who never met a burger he didn't like, to make a move against North Korea!
