Trump is forcing the GOP to going back to the "Party of Lincoln or be Detroyed.

The Republican Party once championed preserving the Union and the Civil War solidified that effort. Since Lincolns death some of the most evil people have arisen that worked to destroy good American values. Trump is demonstrating almost identical tactics and strategies the Nazis Party in Germany instituted in the Twentieth Century. Hitler used a democracy to gain power and once he did the world turned upside down. Take a look at the quality of candidates the GOP has running for POTUS. One of them might make a decent POTUS. The others don't come close. To me Rubio is does not have enough generations away from Communist Cuba to be POTUS. We don't know what ties he may have with Cuba. To me Cruz is ineligible. I have a friend who was born in Great Britain to an American citizen and a British mother. My friend has to have a Green Card. Why isn't Cruz considered an alien? Trump truly is a demagogue. If by some slim chance he gets elected there will be such a cry throughout the land Mexico and Canada will have to build a wall to keep Americans out. The Republican Party needs to offer us some quality candidates, not idiots and Hitler wanna bees.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Lincoln or the Republican Party he helped to put on the map. BTW -- Lincoln was nominated by "political bosses" at a brokered Republican Convention in 1860. Then he won a four-way race for POTUS against three better known candidates, including the sitting VPOTUS and the man who had defeated Lincoln for the position of U.S. Senator from Illinois only two years before! Lincoln won with less than 40% of the popular vote in 1860, and was NOT re-elected in a landslide against the Democratic candidate in 1864 -- even though none of the Confederate states took part in the Election of 1864! And, Lincoln is considered by many to be our greatest POTUS ever!

Here is an article which well articulates how conservatives switched parties from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, over a period of several decades. http://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/conservatives-lie-about-history-to-e...
The writer points out how ludicrous it is to equate Democrats from a bygone era who were in the KKK, with modern Democrats like Al Sharpton. As a lifelong, liberal Democrat, I have been subject to the same unreasonable reasoning.

Human institutions change over time, sometimes drastically. So it has been with the Republican and Democratic Parties in America. The one consistency is with the conservative ideology. By definition, conservatives oppose changes in society. They aim to "conserve," NOT change. Conservatives consistently have said, "No," to ending slavery, "No," to integration, "No," to fairer taxation, "No," to Social Security, "No," to Medicare, "No," to workers' rights, "No," to equality for women...I could go on ad infinitum!
As the writer articulates well in this article, some Republicans seem incredulous about the fact that the modern Republican Party cannot get more support from women and minorities, yet the modern Republican Party comes under the control of the far-right more and more each passing month and year. As I have pointed out many times, you can't keep kicking groups of people in the face and expecting them to vote for you -- unless, of course, you're an obscenely rich celebrity who could "shoot someone" in public and not lose votes!
