Can Canadian Born Ted Cruz Run For President?

Ted Cruz was born in Alberta Canada to a native Cuban and a mother born in the United States. If I use the same argument that Obama birthers used, he can't. Obama was born in the United States (Hawaii). I have a friend who father was born in Great Britain to an American GI and a British mother. My friend is classified as an alien and must have a Green Card.

Call it what you like, MikeyA. The issue is not as clear cut as you may think. The friend's father was a Black American GI by birth and the mother was a Black British citizen by birth. Obviously there are a different set of rules you aren't aware of.

As I posted if the situation you posted was correct "your friend" is able to receive a certificate of citizenship.

Nobody seriously questioned Obama's nativity since his mother was American.

Hence nobody will seriously question Cruz's nativity since his mother is American.

It must not have been serious. The issue was all over the news and discussed and debated by politicians on radio and TV for years. If Obama's father wasn't African there wouldn't have been an issue. Right?

parents NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE BORN. The United States recognizes one as a citizen, if that person has proof that at least one of his or her parents was a United Stated citizen at the time of that person's birth. GZ aka Mr. Empty Glass, is right on this issue.

He is dead wrong about the debate involving Obama and the "birthers." Donald Trump STILL thinks that Obama is not the legitimate POTUS because Obama is not a "natural born" American citizen. The same arguments have surfaced many times in American history. I remember well the questioning of George Romney's candidacy for POTUS back in the 1960s, because he was born in Mexico, even though BOTH of his parents were American citizens at the time. AND, even John McCain, who was born in the Panama Canal Zone while his father was stationed there in the service of the military of the United States, had his "natural born" status challenged, as stupid as this sounds on its face. Our Founding Fathers were overwhelmingly distrustful of Great Britain, At the time of our nation's birth as an independent country, many Americans were "Loyalists" who were born and raised here, but whose families had strong ties to Great Britain. There was honest concern that someone born in England, could move here, run for POTUS and win, then return America into being a part of the British Empire. And don't think that this was not the ultimate goal of Britain in the (IMHO) totally misnamed War of 1812? That war should be renamed, the Second War for American Independence.

People who kept insisting Obama was born in Kenya (as if that's relevant anyway) aren't basing their statements on facts. The "birthers" weren't basing their statements on facts. That's why we don't take them seriously.

Because if you look back through my comments on here before the President released his birth certificate I was one of the most vocal ones saying it was stupid, he was clearly born here, he is clearly a US citizen, and the only time I advocated him releasing his birth certificate was just to shut the stupid controversy up.

It should be pointed out here, that the president released his birth certificate two weeks AFTER Trumpp told him to. We still wouldn't have seen it if Trumpp wouldn't have put his foot down. Yeah, he might become involved in the next general election!
