Big Dairy Petitions FDA to Allow Unlabeled Use of Aspartame in Dairy Products...

"If the amendment goes through, that would mean anytime you see the word “milk” on the label, it could include aspartame, sucralose, or any other dangerous artificial sweetener, but you could never be quite sure, since there will be no mention of it , not by listing the artificial sweetener used, nor with a no- or low-calorie type label, which is a tip-off that the product might contain a non-nutritive sweetener" This applies to all products that contain milk.

'Aspartame is primarily made up of aspartic acid and phenylalanine. The phenylalanine has been synthetically modified to carry a methyl group, which provides the majority of the sweetness. That phenylalanine methyl bond, called a methyl ester, is very weak, which allows the methyl group on the phenylalanine to easily break off and form methanol'.

'You may have heard the claim that aspartame is harmless because methanol is also found in fruits and vegetables. However, in fruits and vegetables, the methanol is firmly bonded to pectin, allowing it to be safely passed through your digestive tract. Not so with the methanol created by aspartame; there it’s not bonded to anything that can help eliminate it from your body'.

'Methanol acts as a Trojan horse; it's carried into susceptible tissues in your body, like your brain and bone marrow, where the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme converts it into formaldehyde, which wreaks havoc with sensitive proteins and DNA. All animals EXCEPT HUMANS have a protective mechanism that allows methanol to be broken down into harmless formic acid. This is why toxicology testing on animals is a flawed model. It doesn't fully apply to people'.

I had to stop using a particular chewing gum, because I got that result every time I chewed it. My doctor at the time (an old-fashioned D.O.) clued me in as to the cause.

Aspartame is also deadly - AND makes you depressed and FAT.

I challenge anyone struggling with weight loss to eliminate the following 3 poisons from your diet, and the weight will come off effortlessly. You won't believe your eyes.

1. Aspartame
2. MSG (in my opinion the worst of the 3)
3. High Fructose Corn Syrup

Try it for at least 4 months. The weight will begin to come off before your eyes. But no cheating. Read every label. Cheese Nips have MSG [an absolute poison]. Cheezits do not. All flavored chips (again, read the labels) and Doritos have MSG.

Now most ice cream has HFC. That will be hard to avoid - just reduce your intake. Honey is a great sweetener with health benefits. I put some on my grand-nephew's plate to use as a kind of sweet-and-sour dip for chicken the family was having for dinner. I guess he had never tasted it before. He LOVED it.

I also am highly suspect of Aspartame and would think the FDA shouldn't bend to a special interest group for something that may put the public's health at risk. In this case the special interest group would be "Big Dairy" and the risk would be unintentional consumption of Aspartame.

But aren't there many people who think there is already too much regulation by the government? Wouldn't restricting this be just another regulation? Isn't the FDA one of the federal regulatory agencies that some want either reduced in size or eliminated?

I feel there is too much regulation, but what are we going to do. I used to work for very big corporations and many of the top level people only cared about their bonus checks. One company I worked for was very lacking on quality control. When a customer had a problem, the customer service staff convinced most customers that the product was okay, so the customer must have a used the product incorrectly. Once the government inacted regualtions all kinds of nasty stuff was found in the products, including hazardous waste. All of a sudden the company got interested in quality control, worker safety and consmer safety.u

Don't worry about it ,just keep drinking the milk, because you don't want anymore government regulation or consumer awareness when it counts, whatever the size of the agency. You would not have known about this if it wasn't posted...thanks to those who monitor these types of issues..
