DETROIT GETS EMERGENCY FINANCIAL MANAGER

QUESTION: IS THERE A CITY IN THE U.S. THAT HAS A BLACK MAJORITY AS ITS POPULATION AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS THAT IS CURRENTLY THRIVING? NOT A COMPARATIVE "COMING BACK," BUT ACTUALLY DOING WELL RIGHT NOW. IF NOT, WHY?

No votes yet

Now this guy right here is an American hero. If he can turn Detroit around, and I believe he can, Detroit has a chance to be productive again. Good luck Mr. Orr.

Well dressed? He didn't even wear a suit to appear on national TV. Well spoken? He may speak proper English but his ideas are pure ignorant liberal Democrat tripe. Detroit is billions of dollars in the hole both now and in the future because of the "dignity" of people like Kwame Kilpatrick and Coleman Young. Detroit has a bad reputation and lost population because of the "dignity" of years of being the Murder Capital of the U.S.The "dignity" of Detroit citizens is exhibited in the neighborhoods where school children can't walk to school without fear of being raped or beaten, their "dignity" is shown in the appearance of their property as you travel to Chene Park, their "dignity" is heard each time I play the Obama money audio form WWJ radio.
Whatever "dignity" they have when they are born is gone in wash of liberal union policies that rob them of any self esteem or pride in who they might have become. Here's video of the last time Detroiters stood up for their dignity.

I lived in Detroit, attended school in Detroit, and worked in Detroit. Besides the video citation that should be enough for zeyad who will claim this is all the white man's fault.

After us Euros stole most of the money and left town to go to the suburbs, the political minorites sucked up the crumbs. Fred, thanks for dangling the bait, but it wasn't ham and cheese on rye with a pickle. You have to do a better job trying to play me, my friend.

I don't need to play you, you show yourself to be ignorant with each succeeding post. Nothing dangled in front of you just a statement of fact as to how you would react based on previous statements.

What better person than you to know what ignorance is, but I will admit you have an advantage. I have blogging sites, you also have the radio so that muchkin brains everywhere can hear your ideology.

LOL

LOL "After us Euros stole most of the money and left town to go to the suburbs, the political minorites sucked up the crumbs." Another intellectually devoid comment from ZC that cannot be backed up... as usual.

I know, MikeyA, you want a citation. You are very predictable. The evidence is right in front of your face, but it's easy and convieneint to ignore it.

You cannot provide a citation for it. I already know that because it is a joke and did not occur. The "evidence" of it exists only in your mind. One cannot ignore that which does not exist by definition. I am not ignoring Bugs Bunny's opinion of nonproliferation because it does not exist, and it holds equal weight as the majority of your "facts".

Records show Detroit's emergency manager has tax liens on his Maryland home

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130316/METRO01/303160352#ixzz2NlfJ1TKd
Quote from article:
State records show Kevyn D. Orr, who was appointed emergency manager on Thursday, has two outstanding liens on his $1 million home in Chevy Chase, Md., for $16,000 in unemployment taxes in 2010 and 2011. Two other liens of more than $16,000 in unemployment and income taxes were satisfied in 2010 and 2011, records show.

The difference being, Orr can pay his debts, but Detroit can't, which is why Detroit is in trouble and Orr is not.

Bother to concentrate on the problem here, Wolfie: Detroit and its hyper-borrowing and hyper-spending Liberal fucks.

We all know what Detroit was doing, Wolfie: It was borrowing and spending without a care, since it knew the state was ultimately on the hook for its muni bonds via state law. Well, by the same token, Detroit can be put under management by the state. I looked up the new Michigan law called PA 436 which goes into effect March 28th. The EM can use his direct legal powers therefrom to cancel contracts and even submit elected officials for removal from office (which the state will do, not him directly). This is direct state power for a Liberal-decimated government level that just won't behave. When you act up like that, you get spanked. It's right, it's necessary, and it's long due.

And Michigan's done it 6 times so far: Allen Park, Benton Harbor, Ecorse, Flint, Pontiac and now Detroit. All well vetted law. All well established state practice. What the fuck Bing and his coterie of chimps were doing, I have no idea, since they had precisely zero legal leg to stand on.

Come on GZ don't forget that clown George Bush who cut taxes for the rich while increasing spending on three questionable wars, Afghanistan, Iraq, and the war on terror, not to mention his non compete Medicare drug plan.

The six cities are all black and none of those EMs have improved anything. The Michigan voters voted DOWN the EM law last November yet the dictator Snyder res erected it by minor changes against the popular vote. No The Jim Crow Michigan legislators only care about corporate control. Monday look for a EM protest in front of COBO 8:00AM.

My chiropractor was located there until his family re-located to the UP. (It''s also the location of one of the main shopping centers from my high school days in the downriver area.)

Imagine my surprise then [based on personal familiarity with the small city]... when you described the city as "black".

from wikipedia:

2010 censusAs of the census[2] of 2010, there were 28,210 people, 11,580 households, and 7,606 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,030.0 inhabitants per square mile (1,556.0 /km2). There were 12,206 housing units at an average density of 1,743.7 per square mile (673.2 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.9% White, 2.1% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 2.0% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.1% of the population.

Benton Harbor you got right. The only other of the cities cited that I looked up was Pontiac, and I think the numbers were like 34% white and 51 or 52% black, and scattered others.

My point being - considering Allen Park's demographics - it doesn't appear to me to be racial at all -- it's, rather, things like, did industry close down or move out (Benton Harbor), combined with, did city officials utilize proper management techniques (?). Did they immediately tighten their belts when various changes took place?

There doesn't appear to be evidence, even based on GZ's list of cities that you incorrectly describe as "all black", that Emergency Managers are placed over ONLY "black" cities and their black citizens.

News flash: Bush hasn't been President for over 4 years. Instead of him, a hyper-borrowing and hyper-spending Liberal fuck named "Obama" has been borrowing and spending.

DO try to keep up with events that are too pervasive and old to be called "current".

And Snyder isn't a dictator. A city within a state can't just keep borrowing, putting the real financial burden on that state. The real dictator was Bing along with his supporting cast of council apes. They believed they could force the rest of Michigan to cover billions upon billions of their Liberal free spending. They were wrong.

I bet you'd call your bank a "dictator" when it comes to foreclose on your deadbeat ass. Call them anything you want, but the law says YOU are the deadbeat (like Detroit) and so YOU must bow to a receiver. If you don't like those terms, then don't borrow money, deadbeat.

Liberals like you can't accept the truth. Dictators don't use laws or legislatures. So it looks like your dictatorship has to expand to include Snyder and the entire Michigan House. Logically. Wait, wait, Liberals like you don't use logic either.

The fact is, the state of Michigan ALWAYS had the right to intervene in municipal affairs. PA 4 and now PA 435 are just refinements of how that intervention proceeds. Don't like it? Then move out of Michigan. Of course Wolfie, in your case, you don't dare do that, since just a short distance south is wretched Toledo with far too many crazy Black people walking around.

We know who you are and what you are, Wolfie.

Party chair, officials say Synder conducting 'hostile takeovers' of communities

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130321/POLITICS02/303210348#ixzz2O9...

Quote:
Lansing — State Democratic Chairman Lon Johnson and three municipal officials Wednesday accused Gov. Rick Snyder of conducting "hostile takeovers" by using their state revenue-sharing money to cover the cost of the $1.8 billion tax cut he and lawmakers gave businesses in 2011.

The result, they said, is a growing number of Michigan cities face another "takeover" in the form of emergency managers. Detroit last week became the latest and biggest city with a state manager because of huge accumulated budget deficits and almost $15 billion in unfunded liabilities.

Do you even bother to read what I write? What information I post? My links?

How do you get off saying "$15 billion in unfunded liabilities" and then attempt to blame Snyder for those? Detroit's Black politicans are doing this. Detroit's Black politicans are doing the borrowing. When you can't pay your bills you're supposed to reduce spending, not go on a borrowing spree.

We already know why you can't seem to understand this: It's because you're a stupid Liberal.

Okay, so what if they did?

The only time a government, any government, actually wants to expand its control is when the advantages outweigh the migraines. In this case the migraines are absolutely legion and the advantages are non-existent and will be for 25 years. After that, things might get a little better.

You have any idea just how badly Detroit has to be screwed up for the State government to get involved? The entire city council, the labor unions and, by extension, most of the local government is going to be trying to sabotage anything the new manager tries to do. The action is about as guaranteed a failure as I've ever heard of, and that's just the part you can see. The part you can't see would require the EM to hire a trained squad of armed security personnel, and that squad better have a few people who specialize in digital security and hacking techniques. Hell, after the job is finished the EM will have to relocate to Thailand or someplace. The New Black Panthers will probably take out a contract on him.

from a well respected African American columnist for the Detroit Free Press.....But there’s a profound intellectual disconnect between what the protesters seem to be saying and what they’re doing.

Their argument — voiced by city council members Kwame Kenyatta and JoAnn Watson, and activists like New Black Panther Nation head Malik Shabazz and Rev. Charles Williams II, who leads the local chapter of the National Action Network — is that we, as Detroiters, can fix our problems by ourselves. Outsiders need not meddle, and certainly shouldn’t being swooping in to take the reins.

But their actions so far — blocking traffic with freeway slowdowns on the Lodge and I-94, the threat of a human chain blocking access to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center — are just about grabbing attention.

I’d have more respect for their efforts if, say, they organized a group of Detroiters to go out and pick up around Belle Isle on a Sunday morning, when the trash piles over the curbs and overwhelms city park staff.

Or what if they lined the darkened streets of the city’s most destitute neighborhoods during early morning hours, when children walking to school wonder what danger lurks in the rows of abandoned houses?

What about getting a group of Detroiters to volunteer to staff the city’s recreation centers this summer?

... about organizing to protect young people on their way to school. Honest kids trying their best to complete their educations are frequently being attacked at bus stops and walking through scary neighborhoods. It WOULD be interesting to see even one of these crybabies on Detroit City Council, put in some of their own time and effort to help protect these young people.

Because the destitution comes from a darkness that light cannot dispel.

You know exactly what I mean and I'm tired of people avoiding the topic. Detroit is 83 percent Black. It can't get better on its own. Build a wall, cut off the welfare, and let Darwin solve this.

Even with Snyder's actions, we know full well that limp-wristed Liberal inaction will perpetuate Detroit's collapse into a little slice of the worst Africa can offer. A wall extensively covered by machine guns is the only answer. Liberals will ensure that extensive expansion of welfare is the only answer selected, and so this farce will continue, spreading the disease of tribalism and thuggery and government dependency inevitably. Toledo is in the path of this juggernaut. Where Liberals failed to deal with reality to the north, we'll have to deal with here to the south, using guns, as the dark tsunami moves this way. It's not just a racial darkness. It's a darkness of culture, a lack of all the establishments of Western constructionism (law, republicanism, peacekeeping, private property, etc.). It's why Somalia is a shithole and why it will never get better.

GZ says, "Because the destitution comes from a darkness that light cannot dispel".

thinks that Detroit is a Michigan democracy? I thought cities like Detroit were municipal corporations. This particular corporation is broker than broke, and its useless "city council" wants a bailout with no strings attached. I've been watching this for some time now, and it appears to me that the city council was/is waiting for the socialist/fellow traveler in the White House to wave a magic wand and bail them out with federal tax dollars. He isn't enlightening them, so I will: That ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

The song DCC has been singing, without using these exact words, is as follows: How DARE a white & Republican governor impose controls over the city we have wrecked (with the help of the Democratic party). We want Michigan taxpayers outside of Detroit to send us free money and keep quiet.

I have lots of friends and family in Michigan, across the state, and they all think that most of DCC are greedy, brainless nut cases.

Anyhoo, Snyder carefully picks a talented black troubleshooter for Emergency Manager, partly, of course, in order to mollify the reverse racists in Detroit, and also to HELP Detroit with other Michigan cities' money, by the way -- and of course he isn't going to be thanked by Detroit City Council, nor appreciated by the likes of Madow, who is the biggest anti-anything-decent big mouth, and nuttiest nut case currently on television. Who knows nothing about the last 60 years or so of Detroit's history of mis-management.

I don't recall Maddow doing a story covering these little facts........
Michigan has had an emergency financial manager law on the books since 1990. The original law, Public Act 101, was signed by Democrat governor James Blanchard.
Under Democrat Governor James Blanchard, two emergency managers were appointed, and under Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm, seven emergency managers were appointed. In fact, Governor Granholm appointed the first emergency manager for Detroit Public Schools in 2009. See the full list below.
The outrage Maddow exhibits is overshadowed by her hypocrisy. And Wolfman where are your posts from when Granholm and Blanchard used emergency managers?

MikeyA

What wolfman fails to understand is if these communities took care of their own business Gov Snyder would have no reason or justification to intervene.

The takeovers are a symptom of their mismanagement.

MikeyA

Too much time on your hands MikeyA? You know if you worked at Jeep time study would be breathing down your unproductive A$$! That said as a country we wasted too much money on for profit wars. Michigan's problems have nothing to do with taking care of their own business. Its all about losing millions of Middleclass manufacturing jobs that supported this state. I know there is no easy fix going forward. I predict that chaos will ensue for Detroit and other cities run under dictatorship. Without good jobs that pay taxes all is doomed and no EM can fix this without Federal intervention on one-sided trade agreements made for Wall Street. Don't hold your breath on that one! Ohio is being affected by this to but not as bad as Michigan's one horse economy.
