Here's to pissing away $50k

Despite what the Google SketchUp-created renderings might show, no developer will be building a hotel/conference center on Reynolds Rd. in the next decade, so there's no need to spend $50,000 on a market study of its feasibility.

Yet it looks like Toledo is going to do exactly that.

A market study shouldn't cost $50k for this idea. Just drive around and see that the market is already served. Within a 2 mile radius of Southwyck are the following:

12 lodging options including a new Holiday Inn w/ attached water park, 2 high school sports facilities, the Maumee Sportsmall, two tennis clubs, a swim club, two golf courses, Maumee's city pool, and the Lucas County Rec Center.

The market is saturated with recreational facilities and more than enough hotel rooms. Where do I pick up my $50,000 check?

Look at the hotel on the rendering by the developers and take note of the name: Hotel Ciputra.

Now look at this picture. Hotel Ciputra is a hotel in Jakarta.

There's a city full of walls you can post complaints at

Developers know they have the upper hand at all times. So it's routine to get the city to pay for stuff. It might even be part of the "payola" system where city money flows out, just so that some of it flows back in, to campaign coffers. All previously arranged.

Hey, it's easy spending other people's money. Don't believe me? Let me hold your wallet.

I hear the sound of $50,000 in taxpayer money being flushed down the drain. If this developer is reputable, why doesn't he pay for the study out of his own pocket? If I were a councilman, I'd vote against the spending of the money in a heartbeat.

Several years ago many will remember I proposed closing COSI and buiding a large ball of Twine because the Ball of Twine in Minnesota brought in more tourists than COSI had visitors.

How much Twine can 50K buy for Southwyck?

I still say we close COSI too. We demolish it and pile lots and lots of dirt to form a large mound. Then we plant grass on that mound. We get those kids then-Mayor Ford wanted to buy lawnmowers to mow it, and atop it we build a giant structure in the form of the Greek Pantheon with a view of the Maumee River.

Now, we take that Pantheon and the city then rents it out to local Wedding parties. If my wife's shows like "Say Yes to the Dress" and "Bridezillas" have shown me it's that stupid women will pay ANYTHING to feel like a princess like a wedding day. How much can we get to make them feel like Aphrodite or some other ancient Greek Goddess? I'm guess Big Bucks! No whammies!

This 50K study shows that the Toledo City Council is made up of underpants Gnomes.

Step 1) Do a study
Step 2)????
Step 3) Profit!
