Romney praises socialized healthcare

"During a trip to Israel, Mitt Romney hailed the nation’s health care system for holding down costs and broadening coverage more effectively than the U.S.

The irony: Israel contains costs by adopting a very centralized, government-run health care system — anathema to Romney’s Republican Party.

“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the GDP in Israel? Eight percent. You spend eight percent of GDP on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation,” he said Monday at a breakfast fundraiser, according to the New York Times. “We spend 18 percent of our GDP on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of GDP. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”

Israel’s health care system is an instructive exercise in all that rankles American conservatives — replete with government mandates, price controls and centralized payments funded mostly by high taxes."

The U.S. subsidizes Israel for starters. Secondly - excuse me, but are Israelis compelled by law to buy a commercial insurance product? Because if not, the implication that Israel's health care system is the same as BO's forced insurance purchase -- IS COMPLETE HOGWASH.

U.S. taxpayers, additionally, are subsidizing Iraq (still), Afghanistan (forever apparently), and thanks to BO and Queen Athaliah, subsidizing every Muslim Brotherhood government they are racing to set up across the middle east. So, seriously, either grow up or wake up and smell the coffee... and the unnecessary bloodshed being sponsored by the BO administration.

I don't think Pink Slip is suggesting that Israel's system is like the Affordable Care Act. Rather, it sounds more like a single-payer, everyone in the pool kind of plan. Which would be great!
Funny, I don't recall you bitching about the Bush administration's invasion of both Iraq and Afghanistan as "unnecessary bloodshed." Funny how you churchy types change your position depending on who is in the white house.

AND because I wasn't on swampbubbles during the Bush administration.

Funny how liberals make false assumptions and set up straw men so they can knock them down - constantly. The concepts of truth and logic don't ever seem to register with liberals..

I HAVE posted here more than once that I did not vote for Bush. I have been completely against these bloody middle east occupations from the start. So, oops, smart alec... guess I didn't change any positions. I think I may have even posted a link of Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" here at one time. Will be doing so again in the near future.

Odd, how godless liberals fall in love with wars they previously criticized, when the guy in the White House has a D behind his name. Why it's like magic.

Your guy will lose in November because he ran as a peace-maker [ why golly gee whiz they even gave him a "peace" prize before he blew his nose the first time in the White House.]... and then not only didn't really stop any wars, but along with Queen Athaliah, fanned the flames of several others. They are now whipping up hysteria against Syria, in order to put boots on the ground there.

I knew Dems were blind, but good grief, you guys are children.

The point of the post was NOT that the GOP opposes Obamacare, but that the GOP opposes ALL health care reform!! Remember, every other industrialized nation in the world has some form of a national health care system. The GOP alternative is to turn back the clock. How does that help anybody? Backward with Romney, or Forward with Obama. I choose to move Forward!

And the subsidies to Israel are mostly for the Israeli military. It is cost effective, since the Israeli military is on site in the Middle East, and is one of the most efficient and effective military forces in the history of the world. Because of this, the U.S. can then spend less money in the region, and deploy less U.S. forces there. Things are quite different in many other U.S. subsidized nations, where little of the U.S. aid seems to be used properly. Please inform me if there are any U.S. government grants to the Israeli health care system. If there is, that's news to me!

Don't forget how the mandate was originally a republican idea.

between 50 sovereign States, bound together by a Constitution.
And a little country the size of Connecticut, and how medical care is different between the two ?!

History, Economic, and Government classes, had to perplex your tiny synapses into an ethereal existence that no one with math or empirical historical skills comprehends !

One size fits all in the horrid economic World of Fascists, is as strange as any phenomenon I've ever encountered.
Where, has it ever worked ?
Detroit ?
Toledo ?
Moscow ?

Conceptual idiocy trumping for Obozo, for all to witness and then, to forget as soon as possible !

Now he's pissed off the Palestinians:

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has outraged Palestinian leaders after declaring that Israeli culture allowed it to be more economically successful.

"As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about 21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like 10,000 dollars per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality," he said in Jerusalem.

Mr Romney made no mention of the fact that Israel has controlled the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem since capturing them in the 1967 war. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but continues to control access, and has enforced a crippling border blockade since the Islamic militant Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

In the West Bank, Israel retains overall control, and Palestinians only have limited self-rule. Israel controls all border crossings in and out of the West Bank, and continues to restrict Palestinian trade and movement. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have said repeatedly that the Palestinian economy can only grow if Israel lifts those restrictions.

There's a city full of walls you can post complaints at

has sworn to annihilate Israel? Do you realize how tiny Israel is? Israel's security measures are absolutely necessary to its continued existence!
The Middle East will only thrive when the Arabs universally agree that Israel has a right to exist. Then, and only then, can both sides in this seemingly endless set of conflicts truly "...beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks." Does anyone doubt that the use of Middle East oil for economic diversity and infrastructure investment instead of for wars and war materials would turn the Middle East into a very properous part of the world, instead of one of the world's poorest areas?

All this said, Romney's statements in Israel and in England make his lack of foreign policy experience scary for someone who wants to be the President of the United States. Did he study and prepare for this trip at all?

In addition, please remember that no group has killed more Muslims than did other Muslims. The death toll in the Iran-Iraq War was estimated at a minimum as 500,000!

the mongrel Palestinians, that even no other Mohamadden country wants.
Than one who bows to dictators, kisses the memory of Mao Tse Tung, and turns $21 TRILLION of real Americans net worth into dust !!!

Liberals=as daft as they post.

"The Middle East will only thrive when the Arabs universally agree that Israel has a right to exist."

Off topic, but does Israel recognize Palestine's right to exist Dalepertcheck? Why do they keep settling in Palestinian territories?

Pink Slip

which have different views on the "occupied territories" and on the Palestinians. Palestinians face worse conditions in almost every other Middle Eastern country than they do in Israel. The proof is that the Palestinians who are there, don't leave Israel. There is real concern among the Jews in Israel that, if current population trends continue, the Jews will be a minority population within Israel in the not-too-distant future. Remember -- Israel is a tiny island surrounded by a sea of Muslim nations, as it stands today.

Even so, Israel gave both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian authorities at great peril to Israel's security. So the direct answer to your question is a resounding, "Yes!" Israel DOES recognize the right of the Palestinians to exist.
Now, I know that this is ancient history, but do you remember in 1982 when the Israeli forces invaded Lebanon and had the PLO surrounded? (Of course, the PLO was only located in Lebanon because Jordan's army had attacked them in Jordan and forced them to leave quite literally at gunpoint.) The Israeli's allowed other nations to organize a flotilla which removed the PLO forces to Tunisia and other Muslim nations in that area. The conscious decision was made NOT to annihilate the PLO. If the situation had been reversed -- really -- what do you think Yassir Arafat would have done to the Jews?

Every major Paelstinian leader, still today, vows to remove Israel from the map. They, and other Muslim leaders, have sometimes stated publicly their admiration for Adolph Hitler, and their disappointment that Hitler didn't have enough time to kill more Jews. Have you ever seen a similar statement made by any Israeli leader about Palestinians or other Muslims? There are harsher anti-Muslim statements coming from political leaders in places like France and the Netherlands, than we hear from Israel!

Make no mistake. In the Middle East, the Israelis are the tiny minority. The Israelis are overwhelmingly the victims. And the Palestinians in Israel are treated better than they are in any Middle Eastern nation, and in many European nations as well!

"So the direct answer to your question is a resounding, "Yes!" Israel DOES recognize the right of the Palestinians to exist."

Earlier this year, Israel voted AGAINST recognizing the state of Palestine.

"Israel has different political parties which have different views on the "occupied territories"

The UN, the same organization that created the state of Israel, officially recognizes Palestinian territories and has condemned the Israeli occupation and settling in these territories. Is doesn't matter what Israel's political parties think.

Pink Slip

When that land was in the hands of Jordan, did they give it up to the Palestinians? No! In fact, they used their military to forcefully expell the Palestinians!

That's ok, PS. You don't have to believe me. Travel to Israel yourself and ask the Palestinians who live there why they don't flee that land of their "oppression". They wouldn't have to travel far. There are Muslim nations close-by in every direction.
