Faced with a projected $8 billion budget deficit and an estimated $560 million backlog of overdue repairs at state parks, the new director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources says he's "open" to the idea of drilling on 600,000 acres many thought were protected from exploitation.

Fine with me, drill.

How many jobs will that create? Any good paying Union Jobs so that our socialist friends will sign on?

Google -"shale natural gas fracking"...

It could easily cost the Ohio tax payers way more than $30 million with all the issues that fracking can produce.

Thanks for the report henny penny....

I'm just saying educate yourself. I know facts and knowledge is a lot to ask.

I know reading isn’t your strong suit and reading comprehension is even more difficult for you, but the Dispatch article wasn't referring to Lake Erie drilling and nether was I. We were referring to drilling for natural gas on land using high-pressure water to fracture the rock from Pennsylvania shale fields.

Typical conservative, when you can’t win the argument you’re in, change the argument.

Currently there is a federal ban on drilling in the great lakes and the ban was supported by Kasich (Republican) when he ran for Governor. Of course the federal law is on top of the executive order protecting Lake Erie issued by Governor Taft (Republican).

So do you think it's OK for Canada to continue drilling in Lake Erie, just not us? Which will create the most trouble if there's a leak, drilling in Lake Erie(where our drinking water comes from), or on dry land?

I haven't looked into drilling in Lake Erie, though watching what went on with BP and the Gulf isn't winning me over.

The issues that are going on with fracking is pretty well known and their is a lot of material for anyone who is interested in educating themselves.

BTW most people in Ohio don't get their drinking water from Lake Erie. I have several family members in NW Ohio and SE Michigan that get their water from wells. Fracking for natural gas on "dry" land could easily contaminate Lake Erie as well.

Why parks? Why not drill at Southwyck?
