Things voters "know" Part 4

The stimulus didn't work.

Reality: The stimulus worked, but was not enough. In fact, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the stimulus raised employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million jobs.

"CBO said President Barack Obama's stimulus boosted real GDP in the quarter by between 1.7 percent and 4.5 percent, adding at least $200 billion in economic activity."

You mean to tell me that we spent $814 billion dollars (CBO figure) and all we have to show for it is 200 billion dollars of growth? And I'm supposed to be swayed by this?

Unemployment still sits in the 9.5% range. The stimulus may have artificially created jobs but it didn't stop other jobs from going away.

Why? Because it was written by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, that's why. It was written with the intent of passing Congress; not with the intent of helping the economy.

Here are things that the president could have done to spur the economy, save jobs, and would not have cost $814 billion dollars:

Federal tax reform.
-take the tax code, heave it in a bonfire, and burn it up. Get rid of the IRS. Enact a flat tax or a minimal graduated tax code with no...I repeat...no deductions for individuals and business. Have the money that you're supposed to pay taken out of your paycheck. No filing of forms. No big deal.

Across the board tort reform
-protect the ability of those who've been wronged for redress but give business, particularly small business, a more even playing field with predatory plaintiff attorneys. A common sense tort reform package would reduce the insurance cost to business, malpractice insurance costs of doctors and nurses, and personal insurance costs to everyone.

Redo NAFTA or just plain scrap it all together.
-if I as a businessman have a choice of paying $24 an hour in labor costs in the United States or $3 an hour elsewhere, I would be an idiot not to take the $3 option. The net result of NAFTA is the loss of manufacturing jobs and the compression of wages. I'm all for free trade as long as it's an even playing field and when the US is being undercut and manufacturing jobs leave in droves it's not an even playing field. Fix NAFTA or get rid of it.

Pay off the National Debt.
-The national debt now sits at over 13.6 trillion dollars. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
-The estimated share per person of this debt is around $44,000
-Every day, we add 4.13 billion dollars to the national debt.

A one year surcharge on everyone's tax bill with the express intent to pay off the national debt. No exceptions. No deductions. Everyone pitches in.

"Unemployment still sits in the 9.5% range. The stimulus may have artificially created jobs but it didn't stop other jobs from going away."

Did you see the graph showing job losses before the stimulus and after? We're no longer shedding jobs, and we're showing growth. It's slow growth, but as I said--the stimulus wasn't large enough. And what about private sector job growth?

Pink, let me reinterate- the national debt now sits at over 13.6 trillion dollars. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
-The estimated share per person of this debt is around $44,000
-Every day, we add 4.13 billion dollars to the national debt.

How much money do you expect the Federal Reserve to print up for a proper stimulus? We spent $814 billion dollars that we didn't have and it didn't work. $200 billion dollars of growth? Unemployment still in the 9's?

AH, you have to get the economy going again--it helps decrease the debt by increasing revenues. The number one reason for today's high deficits is the recession.

Pink Slip

Thanks for illustrating the insanity that is the modern liberal...

If you want less of something...you tax it....liberals tell us so all the time.....

Taxing wealth, means less wealth will be created...and lower tax revenues will result...

Cutting Taxes on the otherhand...encourages the creation of wealth...thus increasing the VOLUME of wealth that can in turn be taxed....this higher volume at a lower tax rate actually increases the amount of revenue generated.

This isnt theory...it's proven fact.

But as a liberal...you'd rather reject reality...and substitute your own...

Immigrants gain over U.S. workers
By: Simmi Aujla

Immigrant workers have gained jobs since the recession ended, while native-born Americans continued to lose work, a new report finds.

The Pew Hispanic Center released a report Friday that shows foreign-born residents gained 656,000 jobs from June 2009 to June 2010. At the same time, workers born in the country lost 1.2 million jobs.

The report said reasons for the huge gap are unclear. But it suggested that immigrants are more likely to take low-paid jobs because some of them aren’t eligible for unemployment benefits.

“It might be that in the search for jobs in the recovery, immigrants were more accepting of lower wages and reduced hours because many, especially unauthorized immigrants, are not eligible for unemployment benefits,” it says.

The report doesn’t break down how many jobs are filled by legal immigrants, as compared with illegal ones.

It also found that while immigrants are getting more jobs than nonimmigrant workers, they’re suffering from sharp declines in earnings. From June 2009 to June 2010, median weekly earnings for immigrants dropped 4.5 percent, but only less than 1 percent for workers born here.

The issue of American jobs being filled by immigrant workers, or outsourced to other countries, has captivated this election cycle. Republicans argue that illegal immigrants are taking jobs that U.S. citizens are willing to do, while Democrats say that the real problem is U.S. companies outsourcing manufacturing jobs to India and China, among other countries.

The report is based on numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Labor Department.

 Unemployment hits 10.2%

Thanks to President Obama’s stimulus plan, which promised to keep
unemployment below 8%, we’re now seeing unemployment hitting double-digits
at 10.2%. This is despite the president’s promise that the billion dollar
stimulus plan passed in February would spur economic growth.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

Unemployment is 9.6%, and you can see how it was rising before the stimulus, and leveled out after the stimulus passed.

Pink Slip

You should try and Google "Real Unemployment Rate"

Those are the numbers that Obama and the other failures in this Democratic controlled Congress DON'T want you to know.

"The Labor Department's statistics don't include the underemployed and those who have stopped looking for work. This alternative measure creates a much higher number."

The real unemployment rate? 16.6%
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/learn-how-to-invest/The-real-unempl...

The Jobless Effect: Is the Real Unemployment Rate 16.5%, 22%, or. . .?
http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/careers/what-is-the-real-unemployment-...

And from the Liberals beloved Huffington Post:
"When both discouraged workers and the underemployed are considered in the unemployment rate, you end up with the U6 rate, or the "real" unemployment rate. For September, that rate increased from 16.7 to 17.1 percent. "
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-thornton/the-real-unemployment-rat...

Yet you still believe the Socialist in Chief when he lies like a dog. You truly are a proud Democrat and Union member. You can't think for yourself, do what your masters tell you to do, believe what your owners tell you to believe, and lap up the group think of Union mentality.

Karl Marx and Barry Obama are so proud of you.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

Moron, everyone knows the "official" unemployment number is lower than "real" unemployment. This is nothing new, and it's not unique to the Obama administration. It's been that way for YEARS.

But of course, that's not the point. Unemployment has leveled off and growth has begun since the stimulus was passed. Now go find someone to explain this to you. Run along...

Pink Slip

When Democrats took control of congress unemployment was at 4.6%....it's now double...

I realize you get your talking points from your bowling buddies or Comedy Central. Here, try and READ for yourself. Try and make up your own mind, Try and look up things that are not spoon fed to you by your owner, George Soros.

"Employers in the U.S. cut 467,000 jobs in June, the unemployment rate rose and hourly earnings stagnated, offering little evidence the Obama administration’s stimulus package is shoring up the labor market."
“We may get positive economic growth driven largely by federal spending, but people on the street will say, ‘Where are the jobs?’”
"Unemployment is projected to keep rising for the rest of the year"
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=ahfK709b4uds

"Why did the unemployment rate rise so rapidly -- from 7.2 per cent in January to 10.2 percent in October? It was clearly the administration's "stimulus" bill"
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/the_stimulus_for_une...

"According to the data, 49 States and the District of Columbia have lost jobs since the stimulus was enacted. Only North Dakota has seen net job creation following the February 2009 stimulus. '
http://www.rantrave.com/Rant/49-of-50-States-Lost-Jobs-After-Stimulus.aspx
In other words, after the Obama "stimulus Bill" 49 out of 50 states LOST MORE JOBS. Contrary to what you are being told to believe, the facts from several different sources say you and your DNC owners are lying.

Obama and Dimocrats in Congress are spectatular failures.

So why did the "official" unemployment rate level off? Because people started falling off of the Unemployment rolls as they gave up looking for work. As more people became unemployed, those people who were already unemployed for a year or more started losing their unemployment insurance and were no longer counted.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a

You're dumber than I thought. Those articles are from 2009. Obviously, the economy has improved since then.

We've now had 9 straight months of private sector job growth.

Pink Slip

My god what a brainwashed moron pussy you are. You are even fukin stupid for a Democrat and that is pretty bad you little pud pulling child

The failed "stimulus" packaged passed the Democrap controlled Congress on Feb. 11, 2009, BEFORE those articles were written. Go back to school you ignorant little pissant.

"On Feb. 11, 2009, Congress gave final approval to a $787 billion bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. "
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/u/united_st...

In spite of the failed stimulus package, OVER A YEAR LATER the economy is slowly getting better. Which means the economy probably would have grown faster and sooner WITHOUT your puppet-masters passing the porkulus package.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

"the economy is slowly getting better"

My God, you've got it! That's my point, and I'm glad you FINALLY go it.

Pink Slip

And my point is we didn't need to spend $814 billion dollars- that we didn't have in the first place, to achieve 'slowly getting better.' Spending $814 billion dollars of my children and grandchildren's money to achieve $200 billion dollars of growth and a steady unemployment rate in the mid-9's is just unacceptable and that's why the Republicans are set to pick up at least 55-60 seats in Congress tomorrow.

Spending IS the problem. We've playing Russian Roulette with our economy and it's long overdue that someone steps up in Congress, acts like an adult, and realize that you can not sustain spending more money than what you bring in through taxes. I don't get that luxury. You don't get that luxury. Why should our government be any different?

Raise taxes? Sorry, the electorate is all taxed out.

That means making hard and possibly unpopular choices. And that calls for leadership- something that's in incredibly short supply in Washington D.C.

AH, over 1/3 of the stimulus bill was TAX CUTS. If fact, the biggest tax cut in history. What do you say of that?

Pink Slip

I saw a $20-$25 increase in pay the second part of last year and then once 2010 started it went back up to where it was before.

Again, that's hardly enough to cause me to go out and spend discretionary money.

97% of households enjoyed a tax cut that averaged $1,200. In total, the tax cuts equaled about $300 billion. That's not chump-change.

Pink Slip

And somewhere around 50% don't pay any federal income tax. So I guess that means they were able to reach into the pockets of the 47% and take a handful eh?

"We're all riding on the Hindenburg, no sense fighting over the window seats"-Richard Jenni

I got a $5.00 per week tax cut ,that expired in january of this year. Gee, what a generous "gift" dear leader Maobama gave us. You know what? I'm convinced, I'm voting ALL Democrat/communist tomorrow. Well done PS, you've done your job just fine. George Soros must be proud.

The fruits of MY labor are not a social commodity.

It's simple, really. You are one of the 29% minority of people who actually think the Obama Pork package actually somehow helped the economy over a year after it passed.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulu...

The rest of us, those of us not being controlled by George Soros, know the Obama Pork package and the debt it put on the backs of all Americans, hurt the economy. But in spite of the Keystone Cops running government, capitalism still wins. In spite of Dems in Congress selling our future to the Chinese, capitalism is rebounding.

Dems were successful in spreading the pain as well as spreading the wealth this time.

Now, if Republicans win a majority in both Houses of Congress, watch the economy take off. With the hope that Republicans will repeal the Obama Socialist agenda, America will re-bound QUICKLY instead of the painfully slow pace it currently has.

IF Republicans keep their word and get rid of Obamacare and the other insane ideas that Dems under Obama put in place.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

BTW all. I am currently on R&R. If anyone has any questions while I'm here I will answer what I can to the best of my ability I can answer them.

I guess nobody believed the Pink Slip bullcrap.

Oh...that's gonna leave a mark....
