GM's goal: All 2nd-tier pay for workers at Orion plant. General Motors which is owned by the United States Government seems to have finally come up with a plan to make GM profitable.

General Motors eventually wants to pay all of the workers at its Orion Township assembly plant a lower, tier-two wage so it can affordably build small cars, such as the Buick Verano compact and Chevrolet subcompact.

Maybe the UAW will refuse the UAW offer and the UAW will have to shut down the plant...

Oh the sweet sweet irony.....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Fred, why didn't you address this to JeepMaker, the apparently retired UAW member who is collecting a sweet pension paid for by you and me? Two-tiered wages have been negotiated in contracts for decades. The UAW now has to go through it, as part of GM's emergence from bankruptcy. The company has to pay back the federal government for the bailout, but at least it is still alive. Job losses and reduced American wages would be the result of NAFTA, one congresswoman predicted in the '90s, a woman you love to ridicule. But she was right. And that's how it is. Corporations will go where the cheapest labor is. Their leaders have no sense of nationality, but they will pay to sponsor someone singing the National Anthem at public events. The U.S. is on a steep decline, Fred, and I don't think she can recover from it. If you get enjoyment from knowing Americans are unemployed or underpaid, go for it.

For having been in the plant turning out crap vehicles for decades and then kicking back and collecting pension checks. Now it's time for you to get back to your mommy's bedroom.

Patience is a great virtue.

They didn't go to Mexico, they're going to Indiana. They apparently have people over there that can put things together for $15.00/hr that work just fine. Maybe they don't need the $32.00/hr people for bolting a fender on or sweeping the floor. The UAW should have saw this coming years ago. I'm afraid you guys have finally drained the buckets dry. you should really be looking at your union leadership and asking them why they led you down the primrose path. I'd guess half of them barely made it through high school.

Turned down by union workers Monday, Illinois businessman Justin Norman won't come back with a sweeter bid to buy GM's huge Indianapolis metal plant.

"We are withdrawing from pursuing the plant any further," JD Norman Industries announced after autoworkers voted 457-96 against a concession contract that would have cleared the way for Norman to buy the plant and cut wages by nearly half.

Those Union 'blue collar' guys that are slowly fading away from our cities always remind me of cowboys in the 1890's as they faded and had to keep riding west on their mustang to find work.

Eventually they just found other lines of work.

BRILLIANT!! Just union pig brilliant!!!!

Those MORONS deserve to be jobless. To work or not to work, that is the question. And I guess we know these idiots answer. Oh well, I guess they'll just have to milk that 99 week unemployment compensation as hard as they can. MORONS!!!

I really like this one, but that just may be because I'm not a big Beck fan, or I just love animation. Someone did a great job on this.

I guess Widowmaker, Fred Lefebvre and others can easily make judgment on other workers without feeling the same pain of taking a 50% pay cut. I think these two would have more empathy for others if they suffered a little pain themselves. Too many on this blog site pass judgment on others without looking at the whole picture of families that depend on a certain level of income to support themselves in a Middleclass life. These people are not rich they work hard everyday are not dependent on government to support themselves. Taking a severe pay cut in an economy with few options is a truly heartbreaking experience which leads to marriage break ups, home foreclosure, bankruptcy, and suicide. Making flippant comments about your neighbors random bad luck only shows yourselves in a bad light. This could happen to anyone and is. Just because a person happens to be a UAW worker as his source of income doesn't make him or her evil or unworthy. Fred Lefebvre says he is a Christian but from where I stand I have to wonder.

So, according to you, it's better to have 100% of NOTHING than 50% of something?

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

If I had to make a choice between working and being able to pay my bills, or refusing that work in order to stand on some stupid principle, I would take the paycut and deal with it the best I could. As for suffering a little pain themselves, I will say this: You know absolutely nothing about me or what hardships I have had in my life, or what I did to overcome those hardships. One thing I have never done though, is look a gift horse in the mouth. If someone is willing to re-open a closed down plant and offer you a job, even if it is for less money, and you turn it down on principle, because your idiotic union leadership told you to, then you deserve to go hungry. This guy does not owe these morons a job, and it looks like he will not be giving them one either. They dug there own hole, now they have nothing left to do but lie in it. It's like Mama always said, Stupid is as stupid does.

The fruits of MY labor are not a social commodity.

To live the American dream it takes a certain income level. To say a 50% pay cut is a livable experience is naive. Americans union and nonunion are being asked to compete with dollar and hour foreign competition. All the while the orchestrators of this world trade model profit handsomely. People are people whether they are union, nonunion, Muslim, or Christian. Most are good, a very few are are bad. It always seems the bad influence the majority in a negative way.

Widowmaker yes you have been able to hide your identity from us but by your comments I know your heart is filled with hate. You need to look in the mirror and repeat the last statement you just made. Now is this person in the mirror filled with hate?

Statements made are the opinion of the writer who is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and are generally permitted.

I get by on not much more than $15.00 an hour, pay my mortgage and all my other bills, and the wife doesn't currently work, lost her job. if I can do it, so can anyone. I have lost jobs before too, and had to accept less paying jobs in order to keep the bill collectors away. And guess what, it worked. That's a part of life. It may not be the ideal situation, but ya gotta make do with what ya got sometimes, right? A 50% pay cut on a $30.00hr salary is still a liveable wage if you know how to budget and cut some corners here and there, and to say it isn't is what is truly naive. It's certainly better than nothing. Hell, I have friends who get by on $10.00hr, and they somehow make ends meet. So to say that I am some hate filled monster because I don't feel sorry for those overpayed morons who refuse to do what it takes to get by, and turn down a perfectly good opportunity to turn there situation around only speaks of your own stupidity, plain and simple. And if there is one thing that I DO hate, it's stupidity. If those people won't do what it takes to make ends meet, then fuck em, they can go hungry. And I don't and won't feel sorry for them, because in the end, there own stupidity drove them to there situation.

The fruits of MY labor are not a social commodity.
