Monday night at the Toledo Free Press/Fox Toledo debate, Marcy Kaptur continued to show the voters that she lacks credibility.
Matt Parker, campaign spokesman commented, "After 28 years in office, Marcy Kaptur is having a hard time remembering the truth. It is embarrassing that she will say just about anything without any regard whatsoever for the truth."
The Issue: Marcy Kaptur's claim that it is against Congressional rules to "tread on other Member of Congress' district"
During Monday night's debate, Marcy Kaptur was asked why she refused to meet with certain groups during the recent health care debate.
Instead of telling the truth that she refused to meet with groups of people who did not support the health care bill, afraid of opposition to the government takeover of our nation's health care system that includes federal funding for abortions, Marcy Kaptur hid behind a weak response saying, "we do not trample on other Members' territory....we are bound by Congressional rules to stay within our district."
Her response would otherwise be believed, but as Marcy Kaptur has shown during her 28-year tenure in Congress, she cannot be trusted.
Since reapportionment in 2002, Marcy Kaptur has not represented Wood County- but for the past eight years, and as recently as this summer, Marcy Kaptur continues to break the very "rule" she hid behind on Monday night to avoid opposition and travel into another Congressional District for official and political purposes.
During a 2002 speech at Bowling Green State University, Marcy Kaptur arrogantly announced that (she) was "fully conscious that our state legislators and Governor have drawn Wood County out of the 9th Congressional District. For this, I am truly regretful. It is my intention to continue serving the natural community of Northwest Ohio, no matter where Columbus thinks we live, work, learn and steward the land."
So if we compare Marcy Kaptur's answer from Monday's debate and her speech from 2002, people are left to wonder- why is Marcy Kaptur lying again?
Even though Marcy Kaptur refused to meet with local groups from outside her district during the recent health care debate, she had more than enough time to....
* Join Ted Strickland in June of this year to tour Lake Township in Wood County to assess the devastating damage the township sustained from a tornado. No portion of Lake Township or Wood County is in the 9th Congressional District. Coverage of Marcy Kaptur's trip to Wood County can be found here and here.
* Make a trip to Perrysburg to welcome home Ohio Army National Guard troops based in Walbridge after a tour in Iraq. Perrysburg and Walbridge are both outside of the 9th Congressional District. Coverage of Marcy Kaptur's trip to Perrysburg can be found here.
* Make another trip to Perrysburg for the opening of a USO center. Perrysburg is not in the 9th Congressional District. Coverage of Marcy Kaptur's trip to Perrysburg can be found here.
* Make yet another trip to Perrysburg with Vice President Joe Biden, for a meeting at Willard and Kelsey, a local manufacturer of solar panels. Perrysburg is not in the 9th Congressional District Coverage of Marcy Kaptur's trip to Perrysburg can be found here.
Matt Parker commented, "When pinned down by a tough question during Monday's debate, Marcy Kaptur led voters to believe that she never meets with people, businesses, or organizations outside of the 9th Congressional District. Instead of admitting she did not want to meet with people who opposed the government takeover of our nation's health care system, she lied directly to the viewers and voters."
After spending 28 years in Washington, Marcy Kaptur thinks she can get away with saying one thing and doing another.
