Lyndon Johnson Announces War On Poverty

Bad news left wing nut jobs, we're losing. According to a report released today---
The Census Bureau said that 43.6m people were living below the poverty line in 2009, the highest number in 51 years of data, although the overall poverty rate is still 8.1 percentage points lower than it was in 1959.
The rise in poverty was worse than in any other recession since 1969 save that of 1980-82, when the rate jumped by 3.9 percentage points.
Elderly people were shielded from the effects of the recession by social security and Medicare, however, with poverty among people over 65 dropping by 0.8 percentage points to 8.9 per cent.
By race, the poverty rate rose above 25 per cent for black and Hispanic people, more than double the 12.3 per cent rate among white people.
The Census Bureau uses an absolute measure of poverty that compares a household’s income to the cost of a basket of goods such as food and clothing. A family of two adults and two children is defined as poor if its income is less than $21,756.

Apparently the numerous programs including food stamps, WIC, ADC, HUD and the other alphabet soup groups haven't lowered poverty one bit. This is your government at work.

Nice try at revisionist history!

Nice cut and paste job, Fred. Apparently, you see your purpose in life as needlessly trying to stir up shit. And where do you work? WSPD, 1370 on my AM dial? Damn, I've got to tune in. You're an effing font of wisdom. And I'd love to make purchases from WSPD advertisers. Can't wait until your next radio show. My question, one you will not answer truthfully, I'm sure, is whether you come to this site on your own or, as I suspect, you are under orders from Brian Wilson to use local message boards to instigate and get reaction, such as mine. You got mine. I'm sorry, Fred, but you are nothing but a whore.

Patience is a great virtue.

I can answer that question. I come here on my own because I enjoy tweaking people like you . Been on here since before Wilson came to Toledo. It's fun to cut and paste especially when the story is something that show the ignorance of expecting the government, any government, to have the solution to a problem they create. Next radio show is Friday morning at 6a, you already know the dial position.

Company liability for employee speech.
Today's companies have increased liability for internet speech which also raises the risk that companies will be held responsible for the speech of their employees. The company might be made to answer for the employee’s defamatory speech. "Tweaking"? Tweaking Swampbubblers gets your Brian Wilson-authorized rocks off? I'm sorry I called you a whore. I misspoke. You are not a whore. You are a pathetic fool who loves jamming his nose up his boss' ass.

Patience is a great virtue.

It's incredible how quickly the posts here go to the gutter when DonWert is online. Rather than comment on the post itself or the story of a failed government policy Don decides to attack me with gutteral references I wouldn't say in front of his mother or wife.
His posts say all that needs to be said about his intelligence, no need for me to comment.

Don't let em bother you Fred, the communist/socialist/progressives are scared shitless. They know the gig is up on the Marxist take over. The people have woken to what this administration is doing and these idiots will be back in the closet after the mid terms. Hahahaha

you can always call your lawyer.

I may only be able to take Glenn in small doses from time to time, but the research his radio and television show has done on the Obama regime and it's foundations over the past few years has really been extraordinary. While I'm not entirely sure about the date, it seems that a little over a year or so ago Glenn began talking about Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven.

Both sociologists and radical activists, they introduced the Cloward-Piven strategy in a 1966 article of The Nation entitled, "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty". Their position was that many Americans eligible for welfare benefits weren't receiving them and that a drive to drastically increase welfare enrollment would create a political crisis that would force the government to establish "a guaranteed national income". Simply put; create a crisis, overload and crash the system and redistribute income.

Before a few of you go nutty bananas, I'm not explicitly saying that Obama and his cronies are purposely driving up the poverty rate, but I don't think anyone can argue that this regime directly benefits from more people being on the government dole. And just remember, the only way we can have equal everything is if everyone has nothing.

In 2009 and 2010, the U.S. government borrowed enough money to fully fund the 2002 budget twice over.

What's really being waged is a war on those who are still paying taxes. Those people and organizations must either collapse, remove themselves to overseas locations, engage in outright fraud (which is the current favorite), or become so vicious and mean that you're going to really hate what the nation becomes.

We are doing everything BUT the cutting of spending, in order to solve this predicament. Nothing can improve until we put the Libertarians into office. They have all the answers, since the answer is too simple for the usual political thugs (Democrats and Republicans) to accept. The answer is to cut government spending drastically, so that the government can then run surpluses in order to pay down the $10 trillion and more that is currently, directly owed.

will never be elected because they never have a plan to get out the vote. When I do vote for the Libertarian candidate I really feel as if I am the only person voting for that party's candidate. I don't think they are a serious party, just want to whoop and hollar (like Brian Wilson) . I have voted for a few Libertarian candidates and I must admit that the first time I voted Libertarian was because the candidate was a black female.

If the Libertarians did what the tea partiers are doing then they may have a chance to at least make their voices heard enough to garner a respectable vote count. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. Just makin' noise don't make votes!

If everybody has an idea on how to cut taxes, get rid of "big gummint" and stay out of wars, they should start their own party and run for senator, congressmen'woman or even run for president. But just whoopin' and hollarin" doesn't "get er done!"

Get out there and make idiotic statements, yell about Obamacare and the Kenyan conspiracy and there you have a good campaign strategy.....SMH!

I think you maybe left one statistic out . If I remember the story correctly , in addition to everything you have stated they brought up one other stat. Since the 1960's we have spent a total of 6.3 trillion dollars to wipeout hunger. I think there maybe a bigger question begging to be answered . Do we know where the money has been spent ? Is there a paper trail and where wil it really lead? Just a tin foil thought for you conspiracist to gnaw on.

Democrats don't want to wipe out poverty. It's like modern day slavery. All the entitlements have done is keep a large number of people "beholden" to the government for everything.
Break the cycle, why? Uncle Sam gives them money, health care, food vouchers, and if they pop out more kids, they get MORE money! Why would they change?

I agree that most, if not all, government aid programs for those in poverty are failing miserably. What is the answer? Both long and short term. Lucas County Job and Family Services' parking lot is packed pretty much every day. If these people get completely cut off from any government aid tomorrow, what would happen over the course of the next month? Would they adapt and learn to survive on their own? Would crime increase by a significant amount? Would they move elsewhere? I'd like to put some serious thought into how this hypothetical situation would play out and see if I can predict whether Toledo, independent of anything else besides this abrupt aid cut-off, would overall be better or worse than the previous month.

Note: I'm not advocating for either side of this argument, I'm genuinely curious as to what it would mean for Toledo since there is such a significant population demographic that is both in poverty and receiving government aid.

Fred solution to everything is pay cuts everything is solved by pay cuts. Government too expensive take a pay cut. 50% not paying Federal taxes...well more Americans need a pay cut. Can't afford the foreclosed home like his fellow talk show host well he needs to take a pay cut. Or get another job if you can't pay your bills. B Wilson just took action and traveled to swamp gas fever infested Northwest Ohio to sell snake oil financial schemes to afford his lifestyle. Risking his health don't you know! If he can dig out of his hole then by God you too can do it!

I have a solution to your question, but I know you really don't want to hear it. It requires you to do something contrary to how you have been raised and taught in public schools. It requires you to finally open your Eyes and realize that failed policies are failures. It simply requires you to say NO. You stop all social welfare programs that say they are doing it for the children, but are actually inhibiting adults from being responsible for the care of their family. You will get other family members who actually act like a family helping their children an grandchildren out.You simply start by voting out socialistic politicians who's greatest asset is telling other people how to spend their money.
Listen what it really amounts to is this. Years back and I mean probably 50 years ago the people who truly needed help could count on private social service programs ei. Churches, food banks etc. Ordinary people who felt charitable would donate what they wished to donate. ( not have their money stolen through pyramid schemes perpetrated by a government entity). Move they system back to that kind of system and three things will happen. People will have to get off their lazy asses and do whatever work it will take to support their family. The message you send to government says you know what to do with your money more than government knows how to waste it. Third , you will strenghen the existince or possibly even bring back the nuclear family. Start by voting NO to this attitude at the ballot box , things will turn back around and families will be forced to become closer and do the right thing or perish.

You got me, Not Again. I am a communist/socialist/progressive and I'll plead guilty to any other label that your pastor, Glenn Beck, assigns to us. But we are not scared shitless. There are tens of thousands of us in the Toledo area alone, meeting secretly late at night to continue plotting the overthrow the American free-market system. And, believe me, we CSPers will make our voices heard on Nov. 2, delivering military hero and job creator Rich Iott to his rightful seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Patience is a great virtue.

Tens of thousands? Really . So conservatives out way you by roughly 60%.since they have the greatest numbers of all the groups combined. Hhhhhmmmmm let me think .. Gad sooks that must mean there are hundreds of thousands of more conservatives around to take care of your socialist ass. Phewwwww the power of numbers huh.

Fear us, Swampy. The Communist movement might have failed in the '30s, but we are much more numerous today and better connected, thanks to Al Gore's invention. As the Great Teacher, Mao Tse Tung, said in 1963, "Their asses will be in the meat grinder before they know it." Do not try to stop our push to put Riot Iott in Congress. Step aside. Stand down. Don't become a needless casualty in our takeover of the U.S.A.

Patience is a great virtue.
