Your lame administration at work. Obama's ICE ALLOWING ILLEGAL ALIENS TO STAY IN AMERICA.

YOUR Democrat controlled Administration in action. SHAFTING America again.
Bend over you Obama apologists, IT'S YOUR JOBS THESE ILLEGALS ARE AFTER. And, like with Clinton signing NAFTA, it's YOUR president in front of the parade.

Policy shift may allow some illegal immigrants to stay

"PHOENIX (Reuters) - A shake-up in immigration policy may lead to deportation proceedings being dropped for thousands of aliens who entered the United States illegally but are applying to stay in the country, officials said on Friday.

They said the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) seeks to end deportation proceedings against detained illegal immigrants who have applications pending to become legal U.S. residents, if agents determine they have no criminal history and do not present a security threat.

The policy shift emerged from an internal memorandum ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton sent last week to the agency's principal legal adviser and a director of enforcement and removal operations.

The memo was published by the New York Times on Friday and confirmed to Reuters by officials.

Morton said the policy aimed to reduce the backlog in immigration courts, where authorities identified some 17,000 cases last year that could be eliminated if ICE dropped removal proceedings against illegal immigrants who had applied for legal status and were very likely to get it.

The issue of what to do with nearly 11 million illegal immigrants living and working in the shadows in the United States has become an increasingly hot topic in the run up to the midterm elections in November, where Democratic control of Congress is on the line.

President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats back a comprehensive reform of immigration policy to tighten border security, while allowing illegal immigrants in good standing the chance to learn English, pay a fine and get on a path to citizenship."

Both parties love illegal aliens, since those are a cheap labor source for the corporations who now own the major parties. Obama won't fix it, and the next Republican President won't fix it either.

How is that soft on illegal immigration? 2010 is slightly down from that high, but still over triple that pre-9/11.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2010/0812/Obama-as-border-cop-He-s-...

You're upset that he is shifting resources priorities from illegals immigrants who have not committed a crime, who have applied and are already on the path to citizen status, to trying to focus on deporting criminals?

In a system that is hopelessly overwhelmed, without throwing billions more dollars in and comprehensive policy reform, that actually seems like a smart idea. Prioritizing those available resources to advocate legal proceedings against the worst cases ~ hell, our whole legal system works that way.

And this is YOUR administration too. Like it or not. Unless you're not American. Wait, that actually makes a lot of sense.

" illegals immigrants who have not committed a crime,"

If an immigrant has not committed a crime, why are they called "illegal"?

Just by breaking American Immigration laws and coming to America without going through the proper channels, they are committing a crime.

http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/border-security.html

Or are you saying some laws are OK to ignore while others are NOT OK to ignore? If so, why bother writing laws at all?

Don't blame me,

Bad choice of words on my part. Good point. Touche. Being present illegally in the country is an illegal act in and of itself - I had of course not stated that as I thought by stating "illegal immigrants" in my sentence it would be assumed that the status was of course against the law, and was referring to whether or not they committed a crime beyond their immigration status while in the country.

The illegal immigrants that they discuss are ones that haven't committed crimes beyond being illegally here in America, and are on their way to most likely already being granted permanent status here in the US. And, according to stats provided, look to be around 5% of the illegals deported annually. It seems that in an overloaded system, shifting resources from illegal immigrants who are most likely going to get a permanent status to illegal immigrants who have a criminal record would be a wiser distribution of resources.

Imagine you live right next to Shanty Creek.
Imagine that your basement floods after every heavy rainfall.

What is the least expensive and best course of action in the short and long term?

1) Jack up your house, including the basement, and back fill with sand.
2) Purchase a different plot of land and move your house to that plot of land
3) Keep patching the damage after every rainfall and hope future rainfall is not as heavy.
4) After the rainfall has flooded your basement, install a high capacity sump pump to remove most of the water as quickly as possible, including water that may be drinkable and hope the good and bad water has not damaged your foundation
5) make the creek more effective by building a retaining wall the length of the creek

The obvious answer to me would be to stop the problem at the source. Fix the creek.
Keep the water from flooding your basement. All the water including the good water. After all, how can you tell what water is drinkable if it is 3 feet deep in your basement? IF the water had gone through the proper channels, I.E. through the water purification plant, then I am sure it would be safe to drink. But can you guarantee all that water in your basement came from a safe source?

To equate my little parable to Illegal Immigration, if the aliens did not come in to America through the proper source, send them back. Why waste time and money trying to figure out which is good and which is bad.

Enforce the borders. THAT is a "wiser distribution of resources". Stop the problem before it happens. If an alien is in America illegally, why bother trying to figure out their "worth". Send them back so they can come in through the proper channels.

It's much cheaper for America to put illegal aliens on a plane and drop them off in Mexico City or Ottawa CA than it is to hold them in jail, hire lawyers, pay a judge, do research on their criminal background etc.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a

that all illegal aliens come from Mexico and Canada? Why would someone from Canada become illegal in the USA? What if the illegal alien came from China, do you drop them off in Mexico or Canada? That is not sound thinking or reasoning. That is just plain nonsense!

For those of you Liberals who are too lazy to look up data for yourselves, here is a convinent link to approximate numbers of Illegal Aliens in America.
Over 22 million hispanic, approximately 500,000 "other".
http://immigrationcounters.com/

Purehate is correct. In fact, at least five of the 9/11 terrorists were in the country illegally. Unfortunately I could not think of any other countries that America shares land borders with.

http://24ahead.com/blog/archives/005283.html
"In the aftermath of 9/11, we learned that five of the 19 hijackers had violated federal immigration laws while they were in the United States. In other words, they were illegal aliens. Amazingly, in the months before the attack, four of those five terrorists were stopped by local police for speeding. All four could have been arrested—if the police officers had realized that they were illegal aliens..."

*EDIT* I forgot to point out another lazy mistake Liberals seem to make.
Here is an article from the Associated Press about how Illegals were smuggled into the US through Canada just a couple of weeks ago. They were going to be forced into prostitution from what I understand.

Man suspected of smuggling illegal immigrants through Canada extradited
By The Associated Press • Thursday, August 19, 2010

The suspect, Jorge Puello, is wanted in Vermont for allegedly smuggling illegal immigrants through Canada, according to a 2003 federal indictment.

He attracted international attention in February when he served as the spokesman for 10 U.S. Baptists detained in Haiti on child-kidnapping charges after a devastating earthquake. Authorities later identified Puello as a man wanted in El Salvador and the U.S.
He is wanted in El Salvador on charges including sexual exploitation of minors and human trafficking, but Dominican authorities said the Central American country submitted its extradition request too late.
Puello's attorney, Samuel Genao, said he plans to fight the court extradition order before it is approved by Dominican President Leonel Fernandez.

Puello was arrested in late March at the United States' request as he left a restaurant in the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo.

Wombat, the ship is sinking. One captain grabs a cup and tells you he believes in bailing the ship out as it should be. After tossing a few cupfulls overboard, he gets replaced by the next captain ... who grabs a bucket. Are you seriously telling me that you can't tell the difference between those efforts and a real captain who turns on the huge bilge pumps?

There are many millions of illegal aliens in this nation. They are called "illegal" for a reason. Everyone one of them is breaking our laws in a very serious fashion, since national sovereignty is what every nation is based on.

All administrations are soft on illegal aliens. They are all beholden to corporate interests, not to our national sovereignty. And if you don't like that truth, then just have your reps in the Congress issue a bill that strikes all immigration law, since you obviously don't respect them anyway. Why not just be honest about it for once, and overturn immigration law? That's effectively the system we have now. An illegal alien just crosses one of our huge lengths of open borders, and then settles here for years, decades, and in fact the rest of his life.

....sort of.

I appreciate that you recognize that the immigration issue has been a disaster for both parties - neither party when given the opportunity has done jack about it. I just find it interesting that people are taking the democratic party to task when the republican party hasn't done anything at all but complain. And this "memo" is just a blip on the map - it's pretty much a non-issue in the overall scheme of immigration reform (what, 17,000 possible cases of people on route to residency vs how many million?).

And both parties are beholden to corporate interests, I agree with you. Those with access to those in power wield power. Deals are struck at golf clubs, at private parties, at elite social functions and at fundraisers. You don't have to convince me of that.

Apparently Obama is going the route of another Democratic President, Andrew Jackson.

I can easily see him saying "Well let them enforce it" as Jackson so famously did.

MikeyA

"Old Hickory" had 150 slaves at the time of his death-proving the democrats compassionate roots go way back. http://www.thehermitage.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36...

This is why the Democrats are in trouble. Here's what Obama just yesterday:

"I think the next couple of years, we've got to focus on debt and deficits. We've got to focus on making sure that we make the recovery stronger. And a lot of that is attracting private investment. Making sure that these companies who are making good profits are actually seeing the opportunities out there in a whole range of new areas and new ventures."

He should have said "JOBS, JOBS, JOBS". If he really starts focusing on the debt and deficits BEFORE a strong recovery, he's a fool. After people are back to work--fine. Otherwise, he just doesn't get it.

Pink Slip

This is laughable. First off he's been saying JOBS JOBS JOBS. How many has he "saved or created" thus far?

The problem with talking about jobs is if they never materialize people don't believe you. Obama right now had a credibility gap because of that and the fact that he doesn't own problems makes him an untrusted leader.

And I have news for you, there will be no strong recovery. We will have a weak recovery. It will take us at least a decade to fully recover from. The dream of us suddenly having tons of jobs will never materialize.

Obama is teaching the country lessons in leadership. "How not to" lessons. First off leadership by example is the ONLY kind of example. The only way this country will recover is if it's citizens and it's government quit spending what they don't have.

Also leaders own problems and work to solve them. Obama while he has worked to solve problems he doesn't own them. He still is blaming Bush. People can see than when it's something bad like the oil spill he blames Bush, who had nothing to do with it, yet takes credit for the Iraq turnover, which was pacified during the surge which Obama was AGAINST. This has left the country to view him as a ideological opportunist. Voters don't like that.

MikeyA

"The only way this country will recover is if it's citizens and it's government quit spending what they don't have"

Sorry, but you can't base that on anything tangible.

Pink Slip

LOL

LOL it's Economics 101. If you spend money you don't have and can't pay back within a reasonable amount of time you will get into an endless cycle of debt.

Saying "You can't prove that" doesn't help your argument. People see it for themselves. Would you like a flotation vest so when the red wave sweeps your house away you won't drown?

MikeyA

I didn't say "you can't prove that". But I know for a fact you can't point to tangible evidence of fiscal austerity creating expansion during recessions--which is what you're suggesting. Find proof of this happening anywhere in the world and get back to me.

Pink Slip

You see, Pink Slip, that's your problem. You are an ardent follower of the Cult of Growth. We're not supposed to be having an economic expansion, since we have far too much bad debt from the last expansion, which is exactly the problem we've complained about.

So we're supposed to have a contraction while all this bad debt is liquidated, and all those actors in the matter have to sustain their losses. But the government isn't letting that happen, which only makes the contraction longer and deeper.

The point is, people borrowed too much money. You're saying the solution is to borrow even more money. We called it the "cycle of debt", but you keep pretending that you don't even understand what that means. You're pretending that you can keep borrowing and spending even though borrowing and spending produced the problem in the first place.

In other words, in order to avoid the hangover, you're proposing we get even more drunk.

I must state again: We must have a contraction. No one who is sane is planning on economic expansion. You already had your massive economic expansion. It's now history and the party is over. When a party is over, you have to sleep off your drunk, then get up and go to work all bleary-eyed and feeling miserable in many ways. This reality cannot be avoided.

GZ, I didn't live through the Great Depression--but I have relatives that did. It's generally considered something to be avoided (the massive unemployment, increased suicides, etc). It's not cool to advocate for another one.

Also, this recession was NOT caused government borrowing and spending as you imply. Seriously, does anyone think that?

Pink Slip

Challenge is nothing to run from.

The generation that faced the depression is called "The Greatest Generation" because they faced tough economic times, experienced an unprovoked attack and responded to both with the tenacity and resiliance that made this country great.

Sound familiar?

I am a firm believe that cream rises to the top and the hotter it is the faster it rises. That's how I describe the tea party movement.

MikeyA

What point are you possibly making in your first paragraph? We're already in the Second Great Depression. You're just pretending that this outrageous expansion of government borrowing and spending will avoid what's already happening.

This is not a recession, so stop calling it that. And what it really is, a Second Great Depression, was caused by all levels of society living beyond their means. That includes government.

If you're so concerned about what some depraved majority thinks, consider well how all these bubbles had big, persistent advocates in the government and media. So you have to consider the facts and logic, and NOT fall back upon the idea that popular sentiment is the metric of truth.

"Starts" focusing on debts and deficits? He started that 18 months ago-by continually INCREASING both, at each and every opportunity. And what companies are making ANY profits, let alone good ones? He'll get the message-in November. Good post, BTW!!!

I also agree that BOTH parties have shirked their responsibility to protect our nations borders.
What I find most disturbing is the 0bama administration is going even further by attempting to stop states like Arizona from doing the job that they won't do.
Let it sink in for a minute, the president of the United States has taken the side of illegals over our own citizens. Incredible.

"We're all riding on the Hindenburg, no sense fighting over the window seats"-Richard Jenni

...was a Constitutionality challenge. It was to protect our own upholding of our Constitution, even against laws that might be popular and issues that are pressing. Although it does make it harder to find and detain illegal immigrants, it is about limiting governmental intrusion (even state government intrusion) into the lives of citizens (and legal aliens).

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/29/us/29arizona.html
“There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal resident aliens,” she wrote. “By enforcing this statute, Arizona would impose,” she said, citing a previous Supreme Court case, a “ ‘distinct, unusual and extraordinary’ burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose.”

“Requiring Arizona law enforcement officials and agencies to determine the immigration status of every person who is arrested burdens lawfully present aliens because their liberty will be restricted while their status is checked,” she wrote.

She also said Arizona could not make it a state crime for noncitizens to be in the state without proper documents, nor could it allow the police to conduct arrests without warrants if officers believed the offense would result in their deportation. She said there was a “substantial likelihood” of wrongful arrest.

According to the 'Guide for New Immigrants" supplied by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, a permanent resident alien MUST carry their Permanent Resident Card at all times and MUST present that card "if asked for it".

http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/M-618.pdf

"Permanent residents are issued a valid Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) as proof of their legal status in the United States. Some people call this a “Green Card.”
If you are a permanent resident who is 18 years or older, you must carry proof of your immigration status. You must show it to an immigration officer if asked for it.Your card is valid for 10 years and must be renewed before it expires. You should file Form I-90 to replace or renew your Permanent Resident Card. You can get this form at http://www.uscis.gov or by calling the USCIS Forms Line. There is a fee to file Form I-90."

Also, if you happen to be a United States citizen and resident of Arizona (someone born in America and living in Arizona), it is Arizona law that you have to carry your drivers license, car registration and proof of insurance while driving.
Law enforcement officers will ask you for proof of insurance at the time of traffic stops or accidents. Insurance companies notify MVD of all policy cancellations, non-renewals, and new policies. If your insurance company sends MVD a notice that your policy is no longer active, we will send you an inquiry notice to verify insurance status.

Failure to maintain proper insurance could lead to the suspension of your vehicle registration and/or driver license. To reinstate these privileges, fees and future proof of financial responsibility must be filed with MVD. The future proof requirement is most commonly an SR22 form from an insurance company. This can be expensive to the vehicle owner, especially since the law requires the owner to carry the SR22 for three years from the date of suspension.

http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/azwelcome.asp

If a person is pulled over, BY EXISTING LAW, they must carry all documentation that proves they are legal residents.
What's the problem?

Don't blame me,

Luckily this happened in Columbus. Otherwise, according to Toledo City Council, the Police COULD NOT HAVE CAPTURED THESE ILLEGALS BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE "PROFILING".
I wonder how much it is going to cost America to keep these criminals in jail and for the trial. If only they could not have skated into America in the first place.
