I only met LK a few times, but he was a decent guy and always returned calls. I feel awful for his family at this time, and this should be a reminder to folks to remember to watch for signs of serious depression. From the outside LK seemed to be successful and in possession of a fulfilling life, but obviously his mental state had eroded to the point where life no longer seemed worth living (assuming, of course, that this was suicide).

And the Blade - tacky rag that they are couldnt resist an opportunity to slide in a Tom Noe reference...

I had to vent some more on my blog about the Toledo Blade's post-mortem hatchet job on Larry Kaczala.

Character assassination cannot be affixed to the local paper alone. How many careers have been trashed by WSPD? I hear the radio station talk with indignant condemnation about this story all the while practicing the same crap on a daily basis. WSPD needs to look in the mirror before others end like Larry. The radio station personal attacks against those it disagrees with should be reviewed.

Oh just shut the f*** up for once wolfie

We have a thread about a good man falling to his death - the Blade "ethically" speculating it's suicide and interviewing employees at the Auditor's office, and all you can do is bash WSPD?

Your obsession is sick. Just like the Blade's obsession with Noe even when reporting on a man's death who had nothing to do with Noe's crimes.

And even though I don't use certain language, if I were face to face with you and you said what you just said in a conversation about a good man like Kaczala, I would repeat Fred's post with no asterisks.

Your sick Wolfman, just like the Blade.

Dude are you serious? Your saying WSPD is somehow responsible or will be responsible for people killing themselves. Your statement is just as bad as Helen Thomas's oblivious Jewish remarks. You get the Moron of the week for that statement.

WSPD sets the uncivil discourse in Toledo. They set a tone of hatred in Toledo politics. Fred has called for me to "shut the f*** up" when challenging his employer on the coarseness of their programing. While I do not blame WSPD for Larry's untimely demise I do hold them responsible for the incivility that the station does promote. For instances what is the difference of four years of name calling directed at the former Mayor Carty S Finkbeiner and the recent Blade story about the fallen Larry Kaczala? What was BW saying about Carty's middle initial S when referencing the mayor? Who do we blame if after four years of unabated harassment the former mayor had taken his life? And for Fred you can shut me up when I call the station but here we have true freedom of speech to hash out our political views whether you like them or not!

Again,
you elude to WSPD possibly being a factor in someone taking their life, in this post Carty. Dude TURN WSPD OFF if it offends you, its simple. I say this because you seem to be affected by WSPD's content to the point of possibly taking you own life.

Bullcrap. The Blade has had a reputation for DECADES of attacking its political enemies in both its news coverage and its editorials. Compared to the Balde, WSPD is peewee league.

Here, Here!!
Wolfman is a serial killer!

BPHTOL

This has to be corrected and not allowed to stand..he's a new american socialist trying to gain power for his fellow travelers...so technically.....he's not a serial killer......yet.....

this shocked me because Larry would be the last person I would think could have done this. Actually when I got the e-mail titled Larry RIP, I went through many possible Larry's of who it could be while I waited for the story to load, and was shocked when I saw it was him. It is sad and we can't appreciate what was going through his mind and the cause.

A damn shame, way too young.
It should be fairly easy to judge whether it was a suicide or not, the hospital garage has cameras on all the floors iirc.

Something is amiss.....grown men dont jump to their deaths over nothing...

My brother introduced me to Larry a few times. Really nice guy. Sad to see.

MikeyA.......
1. Did your brother keep forgetting that he had already introduced you twice previously?
2. Did you keep forgetting that you had been introduced twice previously OR
3. Did you not make a good impression the first or second time?
I would imagine that it would be kind of hard to forget you.....

Purnhrt it would be a combination of 1 and 3.

The second time my brother wasn't sure if he had introduced us. The first time was very brief and only in passing.

And actually unfortunately my brother was given a gift that I don't have. He can walk into a room and in 45 mins he knows everyone in the room and remembers everything about them. If you were still a poster on GCJ I'd say you probably have had an interaction with him but you don't so you have yet to meet the real historian in my family.

However the one thing we do have in common is from a VERY early age we both grew interested in how our gov't worked. People we know are surprised neither of us majored in political science.

And the unforgettable one in our family is our younger brother. Trust me I don't think you want to meet him.

I just know you were on pins and needles for me to answer your question.

Though, I don't have much interest on politician, but Larry Kaczala was my best. He was real estate lawyer in profession along with the Politician of Republican Party of America. I am well known with his political life and achievements in his tenure of being president of Country Auditors Association of Ohio. His life is an exemplary to all the people. I was very shocked from his death and pray for his soul to get rest in peace in heaven. It was reported that he jumped from the fifth floor of the parking garage at the Toledo Hospital and died from the fall. It is stated that it was a suicide. I also pray for god to provide strong power to endure the grief for his family.

I figured the Blade's ombdumbassman, Jack Lessenberry, would support the Blade's coverage of Larry Kaczala. Jack said:
I think The Blade story was a respectful account of what happened and of the former auditor's career.
Tom Noe and his wife, Bernadette, gave Mr. Kaczala $6,000 when he made an unsuccessful run for Congress in 2004.
That was before the "Coingate" scandal was uncovered by reporters for The Blade. Two years later, when the scandal was a huge story, Democrat Anita Lopez used the Noe connection in her successful campaign to defeat Mr. Kaczala. This was appropriate because the story was really both a news story and a form of obituary, which attempted to tell the story of Larry Kaczala's life and career.
Jacky never discussed the Blade's absurd reporting of the inside of Larry's car. What did the photo and description of the inside of the car have to do with Kaczala's life and career?
metso crushers

At first.......when I saw this headline (here on ToledoTalk.com), my initial thought was this had to be a a BAD joke on someone's part - posting a story like this.

WOW - this is a real suprise.

Kaczala was one of the few politicians in Toledo who I actually liked. Someone with a level- head, who was an all-around good person, who meant well.

When I was a senior at Start High School in 1992, Larry Kaczala was a guest speaker in my Political Science class. That was the first time I ever heard of the guy.

Sad story indeed....

My initial thought is to wonder if he received a poor (maybe terminal) medical diagnosis, and then decided to pull a 'Don Brondes,' and just end things - on his own terms.

Bizarre / Sad story indeed....
