This is hilarious...and sad at the same time.

Democratic Representative Hank Johnson is afraid the island of Guam may tip over and capsize.

Come on! How is it even possible to BE that stupid? It's a good think that things like breathing are controlled by the brain automatically, he'd be too dumb to breathe.

hahaha, this is ignorance in its finest, what fools would admit to electing this retard? Wow. This guy is soooo stupid it is not even funny. Hahahaha. I bet this retard is an obama supporter.

...and these are the retards the "progressives" elect and support? The really funny thing is, you will never hear a progressive say the guy is an idiot! Because stupid doesn't matter to progressives, because they are always right. hahahaha

Johnson legitimately fears that "the island will become so overpopulated that it will tip over and capsize." Seriously?! (Watch the admiral's face as he tries not to laugh...) How did this guy get elected to office?! How did this guy make it though law school?! Some great representation the 4th District of Georgia has...

Hank johnson is so godamn stupid, it is no surprise he is a "progressive"!

Hahaha

" Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson Worries About Guam Tipping Over
And Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA) (4th Congressional District) is a Congressman????? We're In Trouble!!!!! Admiral Robert Willard should be given an Oscar for NOT laughing in the Congressman's Face. I bet that after the Hearing that the Admiral was shaking his head & saying, "We have to testify in front of these morons?" And remember Boys & Girls, these are the same idiots that Voted for giving You Health Care!!!!! "

I can't wait to see how sensor will justify this retard's stupidity, there must be a logical explanation, right mr. sensor. I suspect maybe hanks's brainless rants are due to the global warming, and it is warm down in jawja. Hahaha

Hank Johnson responded and said the "capsize" statement was a metaphor. Carry on.

As much as I detest moonbats, Hank Johnson was making a joke. A funny. Anyone trying to take this remark seriously is very hard up for news.

For the benefit of our right-wing friends obviously unfamiliar with the concept, Rep. Johnson was utilizing a device known as a "figure of speech." A "figure of speech" is defined as "a word or phrase used in a non-literal sense to add rhetorical force to a spoken or written passage."

The aptly named "Not Again" demonstrates why right-wingers have absolutely no standing to refer to others as "idiots" and "retards."

Should have figured the old "spin machine" would be in high gear. Metaphor my ass.

Note that he makes the "tip over and capsize" comment, then after the Admirals response he says, "and also things like the environment....". He makes a separate mention of the environment. Why would he do that if his "metaphor" was supposed to mean the environment?

Let's employ Occam's razor here. Which is easier to believe: that Rep. Johnson used a metaphor (or clunky wording, or dry humor, or convoluted rhetoric) or that a person with two academic degrees and 25 years as a practicing attorney actually believes that an island can capsize?

I'll grant that Johnson sounds less-than-stellar as a rhetorician here, and I might even accept that he comes across like a mush-mouthed tool, but it is difficult for me to believe that this former lawyer and jurist really thinks islands can capsize. Also, while on the subject, Johnson raised an interesting point about sustainability on Guam: with a population density of 839 people per square mile, the population density of Guam is almost as high as Japan. Quite a few invasive species have disrupted the ecosphere of Guam, and the influx of the U.S. Marine Corps' 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force will result in a 10 percent or more rise in the island's population, no doubt adding to the environmental challenges of the island.

Perhaps we should be more concerned that the military spokesperson could not provide even rough estimates about the size of the island - you would think if he were testifying before Congress he would be prepped beforehand about geographic and demographic data.

HistoryMike: Which is easier to believe...

Do you really want an honest answer to this one? Alright, then. To continue: ...a person with two academic degrees and 25 years as a practicing attorney actually believes that an island can capsize?

Sure I can believe it. The man has two academic degrees, which I will suppose to be a bachelor's and a law degree. He may well have graduated dead last in his class, or graduated with a very low GPA. Twenty five years ago he managed to pass the bar, but again we don't know his position or how well he did on the bar exam, or how often he had to take it before he passed.

Having met more than a few judges and attorneys in the course of a somewhat colorful life, I can attest to the fact that most are of average intelligence. They are, in fact, no brighter than most of the people who contribute to SwampBubbles (discounting the loons, trolls and moonbats), the only differences being a hopefully thorough knowledge of the law and a license to practice law. Right there is where it ends.

There are few truly brilliant judges or attorneys, for obvious reasons. However, if you want to find a judge that's dumber than a box of rocks, just go down to the Lucas County Courthouse and interview a few people. Retired judges are especially interesting to interview. Some of these people are so dumb even I can't believe it. Others border on lunacy.

So to answer your question, sure, I think it's possible. But in this case? Not on your life. This guy deadpanned a joke and didn't know how to back out of it when Brass Hat took him seriously. As for being informed because you're going to go in front of Congress - what the Hell for? Congressmen have won a popularity contest, not an intellectual contest. All they have to do is look good enough to beat their opponent. Look at the way Congress has been ruining the U.S. and then try to convince me they're bright, learned people. They aren't.

Now then, there's your answer. Aren't you glad you asked?

Therein lies the problem.

Bush has two degress. One from Yale and another from Harvard.

Is he a smart man? Are his faux pas reflective of his overall intelligence or of the moment?

MikeyA

We should compare Bush's grades to Oduma's, since we already know he got higher grades than Kerry.......oh wait...we still cant even see Oduma's grades..

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

What does it matter?

He graduated from Columbia (looks like without honors), and later graduated Harvard Law School magna cum laude. Plus was head of the Law Review.

What does it matter what his grades were? Seriously. After you have been out of school for like 4 or 5 years, no employer cares what your grades were, beyond perhaps if you had honors or not, maybe. It's your work history, what things you've accomplished, etc.

Well gee...if it doesnt matter...why not release his transcript?

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Indeed. And while we're at it, why not release Obama's school and medical records as far back as they go? Why not open up the Obama home and allow teabaggers to rummage through the Obama's personal effects to their heart's content? Who knows what evidence of past communist affiliations may be hidden in Michelle's panty drawer? Won't know until we take a look.

Odumba graduated from Punahou High School in Hawaii. Here is a quote from an interview of his former college counselor at Punahou High School

"Before graduating in 1979, Obama played varsity basketball in high school. His grades, however, were sub par, said Courtney Fukuda ’12, based on conversations she had with the college counselor she shared with the president-elect."

I guess it's safe to say he was more of an idiot than the "mental giant" the media portrays him as.

Don't blame me,

...a 20-year-old who is "quoting" her college counselor. As reported by someone from a college newspaper. Who didn't call the college counselor herself to check. But say it's probably true. So what.

Regardless, it doesn't really matter what his grades were in high school. It's the body of work he does, the choices he makes over his life, whether you like 'em or not. The world is full of people who did wonderfully in school that didn't do so well upon graduation, and many of the brightest people didn't do well in school only to do amazing things in the world. If you judge someone's intelligence on their grades, whether they're currently in high school MUCH LESS 30 YEARS LATER, that reflects more on your intelligence level than theirs.

And Odumba? Really? You really do set the pace for petty comments.

The guy is only the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES...

I can look up ANYONES grades except oduma's...

Why the big ole secret if he's so uber uber smart?

When people start crabwalking about "needless details" my bullshit meter gets pegged...

And Yeah...I know Oduma doesnt fit your metal construct so much...hard to believe your messiah is just another chicago thug....surrounded by tax cheats, commies, and internationalists....

Your only defense for a lack of release of Oduma's COLLEGE transript is to attack those who ask to see it...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

...You can't look up my grades unless I release them. Or anyone else's. Not even your kids'. It's no conspiracy, your academic records are yours to know, they are already confidential for all students I believe, and you have to release them yourselves. Many other presidents have allowed their grades to be released. And it told us absolutely nothing about them, really. George Bush and John Kerry both being pretty blah in school told us absolutely nothing about what type of president they were (or would potentially be, in Kerry's case). And it sure as heck didn't mean one was smarter or less smart than the other. You're welcome to WANT to see what Obama's grades were, but it doesn't mean he has to show them to you. There doesn't need to be a defense of not releasing his actual grades, or producing his actual tests he took, or peeking at his credit card receipts. Just because you're curious, doesn't mean you have a right to look.

...Obama is obviously pretty smart. I don't know who's saying he's a genius, or absolutely brilliant, it seems that you are setting that image up yourselves so you can attempt to tear him down. Magna cum laude of Harvard Law is not an easy feat, but it's just as much perseverance as it is smarts. And there are a lot of different kinds of smarts.

...I don't think you know what my mental construct of Obama is, or many others for that matter. I don't think you listen at all to what people say in your quest to be right (both in terms of correct and in terms of right-wing conservative) and of one-upsmanship of other posters. Perhaps sometime you should actually listen.

So now I dont even have a right to know what kinds of grades the president of the United states got in college?...because "Obama is obviously pretty smart"?...

Uh huh....right....

Man...talk about a cult of personality...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Just ask Dan Rather.

Don't blame me,

he met the school hottie (a blonde!) under the bleachers on the football field for gratious make-out sessions; Obama made it to third-base! Also forgot to pay back the cafeteria lady when he came up short for the bag of chips but she let him have it. I hear his locker and desk area were very messy as well and he bumped another student's car door opening his in the lot--didn't leave a note.

Have the House draw up the required Articles...

You forget McCaskey. You're dealing with a bunch of people whose lives peaked in high school.

Right...the past is only a big deal when it's not a flat out embarrassment for liberals...

"Perhaps we should be more concerned that the military spokesperson could not provide even rough estimates about the size of the island "

It was Johnson who asked what the square mileage of the island was. Using his own figures rounded off 12w x 24L =288. What! He couldn't come up with this on his own?

Edited to correct a typo before someone took me to task for an extra "L" in the word mileage.

If man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth. ~Japanese Proverb

We had a president for eight years who stumbled, bumbled and appeared clueless countless times in front of a microphone.

We're supposed to get all worked up over what this guy may or may not have meant?

Another right-wing Hail Mary...

Hey, if Guam tips over, will 0bama call a "corpse man"?

"We're all riding on the Hindenburg, no sense fighting over the window seats"-Richard Jenni

Metaphor? Of course it is, that's why when Rep. Johnson suggests that Guam might "tip over, capsize" metaphorically he actually uses hand gestures and head movements to accent his question. This guy is just stupid. The number of a man's degrees has nothing to do with how smart he is, just look at Bush. And to assume that because he is in Congress and therefore smart is as foolish as thinking Guam will one day tip over because one end of the island has more people on it than the other.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

Agreed Fred. Besides, everybody knows if the island starts to tip over, you just have all the fat people run to the other side!
