Drive foreign while married to Senate Majority Leader

The wife and daughter of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) were involved in a serious accident today in Virginia. Apparently Mrs. Reid has both broken neck and back, while his daughter has lesser injuries. I wish both a speedy and full recovery.

However, I must point out the irony to those here on Swampbubbles who whine about autos from foreign makers, even if they are built here in the states.

The Reids were driving a Honda Odyssey minivan.

The Reids, who have made their fortunes as champions of the working (i.e. union) man and woman, were driving a vehicle made by non-union labor. At least the Reids bought a van made in the USA!

It's unlikely the van was a rental, as Honda doesn't have to rely on fleet sales to move their vehicles. Even if it were borrowed, you'd think the Reids would know better than to drive any vehicle without the UAW stamp of approval on it. Didn't anyone learn from the tribulations of Pete and Polly Gerken?

Once again, a deficrat fails to practice what they preach. Proclaim your support for your union brother, then go buy a non-union product with your own money.

I'm glade you can make political hay out the tragedy of others. Stay classy...

As I said, I wish both a speedy recovery. As for political hay, it is what it is. I know that good deficrats NEVER point out republican hypocracy, whether real or perceived....

Once again, Sensor cannot address the issue only make an irrelevant comment amounting to attacking the poster....Alinsky Rule #13 is his usual MO because there is no way to defend Progressive/ Liberal actions and policies. BTW...perhaps, SG, you could work on a new phrase...'stay classy' is getting tiresome.....and frankly, it's rather odd in the manner you use it.

"Didn't anyone learn from the tribulations of Pete and Polly Gerken? " I seriously doubt if the Reids have heard of Pete and Dolly Gerken from Toledo Ohio.

The statement that foreign makers produce in America is a talking point that needs clarification.
The foreign producers leave an impression with low information buyers that ALL foreign labeled autos are produced here in the states. Not true! Most of the foreign brands have honed the export business to take advantage of the America market using the illusion of "American Made" while importing the mass majority of their products from low cost foreign sources. After thirty years of so-called free markets free trade the mighty American manufacturing Midwest is no more. Everywhere in fly-over-country good jobs have been lost to corrupt trade agreements that favor our trading partners and multinationals. Now we see the results with the destruction of once prosperous cities and states that no longer have the taxing income produced by manufacturing. No more will average Americans hooked on the cheap imports afford a secure middle class lifestyle.
When I grew up the average family was supported by one income, a worker could easily find a job that had a pension and health care. By the 1980s it took two incomes with the creation of the 401K risky pension . By the 1990s we were told America was becoming a service economy filled with a majority of low wage jobs. A new century begins with the housing bubble in full swing as manufacturing jobs accelerate their losses. The mantra of unearned income riches over the old fashion way of the 40 hour work week fills the America psyche with greed ( house of cards). In 2010 we're finding it takes whole extended families to afford just one home. Look around Toledo, look at all the unaffordable homes that are rotting from foreclosure. Americans have been sold a lie that will change our living standards for decades to come!

Statements made are the opinion of the writer who is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and are generally permitted.

"The foreign producers leave an impression with low information buyers that ALL foreign labeled autos are produced here in the states." Evidence? How do they do it? Any brochures? Scan 'em in & post 'em somewhere!

"Look around Toledo, look at all the unaffordable homes that are rotting from foreclosure." Can you provide a couple of addresses for us? Just to see the rot.

Lemme tell ya what happened: Foreign companies figured out how to make products better and cheaper. Detroit made crap, and inflated union wages, benefits and utterly stupid work rules, given away by the Big 3 to maintain union peace, came a cropper. And don't forget, not all those jobs went overseas - a bunch went to non-union shops in the US, where right-to-work laws allowed common folks to bypass the UAW.

Add to that the union-crazy wages and benefits in the public sector, which have mushroomed in the last 30 years, and it's easy to see why the little guy is now struggling. The Rust Belt, dominated by union-think, has dug in its heels for 50 years trying to deny reality. Well, this is what it ya get.

And of course no one in the main stream media will ask Reid about this because that wouldn't be classy, would it? Good thing it wasn't a Prius Harry.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

Reid's going to be out of work soon, he needs that cheap road-oiler. Does anyone remember Geraldine Ferraro, and what having three Jap cars in her driveway did for her/Mondale in the general election in 1984? This will happen again later this year, when the socialists are swept from office.
